NON-MFC: Round 07

Featured Replies

back from the heat of Asia after a few months I have watched a few games in 4k on kayo. A wonderful experience which just makes one lament that the prime games are still in the old HD format.

For a game that makes almost all of its money from TV you'd think they would insist on a decent standard

Right now

Blues

Giants

Swans

Cats

Power

Dees

Pies

Lions

are my top 8!

Dees v Pies in elimination final 🤨🤨🤨??!?!?!?!

Bombers 9th , Freo 10th, Suns 11th 🤣🤣

The grand old Duke of York said it best:

”when you’re up, you’re up. When you’re down, you’re down.  When you are only 1/2 way up you are neither up nor down”.

long season, strange schedules.  All teams will have mares, and look awful.

hope we are setting ourselves for the next two….

Our last two have been horrible.
But the Dees effort and intensity and skill v Power was what WE are capable of delivering.  Let’s bring that weekly !!

What’s special about this ground?

Nothing.

But I can't recall many games where they go to a ground like this and boss it.

Tigers at home, pu$sy cats abroad. Unless of course they're playing Melbourne at the MCG.

Kingsley has got them firing.

That was a smashing of a side who smashed us the week before without Toby, Taylor and Coniglio.

They have pace to burn and are playing great team football.

We got owned by Brisvegas for 4 Quarters, but you call it an overreaction.
Did you actually watch tonight’s game?

So doesn't that tell you something after the heroics of Adelaide?

After 5 minutes everyone at the ground could see we were cooked, for whatever reason and theories abound (short breaks, sleeping ina hotel for a week, lots of kids on tour, away games, emotional high - I'm a fan of all of these contributing) , but that's the situation.

They owned us and we lost by only 22 points, another paradox.

On Anzac Eve, as predicted by Fox panel, both teams were rusty in the extreme, and class showed out once warmed up. Problems sure but we need a deep breath taken on here.

Iv'e always been a huge fan of Disco's since he played a blinder of an first game opening 1/4 before I think his jaw was broken from memory.  Big take out from this week's game. Upside a - plenty.

Go Dees

Isn't this the same as the facepalm reaction?

I guess they’re similar enough. I just think sometimes an eye roll is more apt. Maybe it’s because I live with a teenager so I cop a lot of 180 degree eye rolls, usually accompanied with a sigh so deep it’d blow your hair back. 🙄😤😁

Honestly, this post is tiresome and sanctimonious

It’s fine that you say so, but you mustn’t forget: everyone/entitled/opinion etc. I’ve had that thrown at me so many times, surely it applies to everyone.

One of the beauties of AFL is how much form can fluctuate dramatically from week to week. I suspect it is the physical nature of the game but that probably doesn't explain everything. Brisbane thrashed us for three quarters last week... at the MCG. GWS, who look to be the most talented side in the comp, thrashed the Lions. Teams will lose games they are expected to win and win games they are expected to lose.

It all sorts itself out in the last week of September.

I get the natural reaction to Brisbane's loss is the SWYL style "what an embarrassment".

Every year we get to a point where we get the "circle of parity", whereby you can say "A beat B, but B beat C, but C beat D" and get all the way back to where you started.

Last year Collingwood lost to Hawthorn a month before finals, Brisbane (2nd) lost to Hawthorn and also lost to Gold Coast (another bottom 4 side) a month before finals.

Yes, we lost to Brisbane, badly, but they love playing us, they would have steeled themselves for the game, and despite their poor start to the year the talent on their list is obvious. And that's before we get to the fixture lead-in to the game, whatever that was/wasn't worth.

It's frustrating, but not embarrassing.

Go Saints...anyone?

If you throw 100 darts at a board, eventually you'll hit the target.

That applies to St Kilda eventually beating a team higher than them on the ladder.

The Giants just monstered Brisbane in contested ball and if that wasn't bad enough they worked harder on the outside and spread better too. It felt like Brisbane never had an easy touch and 23 tackles inside 50 for GWS probably explains why.

Facepalm means 'how could anyone say something so stupid'

Eye roll is gentler, like 'there they go again saying something embarassing or silly'.

It was a replica game in terms of dominance when we played the Lions. We at least held them at bay wrt scoring.

I love the pace of the Giants and that is why I wanted Henry.

I call it embarrassing. For 3 Seasons Brisvegas have steeled themselves to play us, and we were not prepared.
Not even in the 3rd Quarter after the break did we change anything.
4th Quarter Junk time saved some percentage.
Brisbane are cooked, their big show was last year’s GF and they failed, but still they own The MFC….

I saw the last part of the game last night.  It just makes me more annoyed with how we performed against Brisbane.  Of course last night daniher and hipwood couldn't nail their shots.

"They still own the MFC"?

What, because of their *checks notes* one consecutive win against us?

FFS, if that's an "owning" what the [censored] was what Hawthorn, Geelong and North Melbourne used to have over us?

(PS do we now "own" Richmond, having won five in a row?)

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
