NON-MFC: Round 06

Featured Replies

I’m confused about the positive press GC are getting.

They’ll be 3-3 at the end of the round and their 3 wins have come at home against bottom 4 sides.

I’m pretty sure they could’ve managed 3-3 under Dew.

sydney seem able to maintain distance of a 2-4 goals

Thought this might be a good game but Sydney too good

Going back to the filth match, why did the commentators insist on calling Hill "Bobby Hill" when he was the only player on the ground with that surname?

They did it EVERY TIME he got the ball, well other than the 2 times (in a row) that Der-Wayne called him "Bobby".

I think this issue is more interesting than any discussion about the Swans/GC snoozefest.

Hope Goodwin is watching Grundy, biggest monumental stuff up by our club and  when Gawn retires soon, needed more time to make this work!

You a little obsessed about this name thing, Bingers? 😅

It takes 2 parties to make a relationship work.

Brereton is the most patronising commentator. He’s just so condescending.

I cannot stand him. He says every single comment like it’s the most profound thing you’re ever gonna hear. In his mind, every time he draws breath to make a comment he’s the Dalai Lama and we’re his devoted adherents.

EXACTLY!!! I can’t believe people are still carrying on about this, especially when they clearly don’t know enough to justify passing judgement.

That was James Kelly pretending to fall asleep during the song, and iirc he was duly sch!tt-canned for doing so by the media and neutral supporters, in general.

I can’t imagine a player despising a club to the point of not considering a move to that club based only on that club’s dark past. Especially when that club has been successful of late including having won a premiership recently. If Yeo despises the Dees, there must be some other reason. Maybe a personal reason. 🤷‍♀️

Point of order dear friend, I seem to remember a certain Angus Brayshaw on Gus and Gawny saying he would rather eat his own (checks himself)  than go to WCE... something is up there.

Clohesy looks a serious prospect for GC.

They still have something different this year. I actually think Dimma got out coached today, Sydney has done an excellent job of stifling GC run and rebound. GC should also have rejigged its defensive forwards.

Gorgeous autumn day and they have that stupid roof closed.

Brisbane lost to Geelong on their home ground in conditions they should be more used to. And Brisbane has beaten us in our last two clashes. It just worries me. I hope your optimism proves justified, @binman

For the record, we defeated Brisbane toward the end of last year. In what would have been part of an 8-game winning streak heading into the finals were it not for a dodgy score review against Carlton.

I can't stand the pies, but to be honest it's more the media sycophantic saturation in the last two years that I really hate (though  I'm still disgusted with their fans booing Gus after being concussed)..

But really the only team I hate is the hawks.

Leigh Matthews knocking Steven Smith out.

The prelim heart break.

Jarman refusing to come to the dees, and instead going to the hawks.

The grand final heart break.

The long run of losses.

The way they seemed to relish bullying and beating us.

Their smug MCC wannabes fans.

Their stupid jumper.

Jeff Kennett.

Jeff Kennett.

VFL Park.

Go roos.

But he knows what he is talking about in his analysis of player positioning and and what they are trying to do.

Other commentators do this too. But they don’t try to make Martin Luther King sound like he’s having a chin-wag with a buddy for S&Gs.

Has anyone here ever met someone that follows North Melbourne?

Once, 20 years ago. She was a co-worker, and pretty passionate to be fair. Wore here North jumper to work on game day, and wouldn't work when a game was on (she'd finish her shift then bolt to the G or Telstra Dome to watch).

Yes, there used to be one in the office next to mine. But only one.

Ginni is a very good footballer.

My problem with Derm and other special commentators of a certain type is that they spend the whole game telling you what the players "should have done" or "were trying to do" instead of what's actually happening. They're trying to be coaches when they should be analysts.

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
