the 4th quarter fade outs have been happening all year

he needs to go as well

Can't run out quarters, can't run out games. We're clearly not fit enough, despite a miniscule injury list all year, to play the type of football we want to play.

That's on the conditioning staff and the coaches. All can go.

Yep, time to go Selwyn. The warning signs have been there since the back end of 2022.

I think our last quarter was psychological and structural, not fitness related. It’s on the coaches and players.

We had last quarter fades in 2024, we started this season with an absolutely abysmal last quarter %.

Whether its coaching, the fight in the player or fitness - It's all part of the recipe. And we need to examine the cookbook,

That last quarter was all between the ears.

I'm not his number 1 fan by any means but that was a pure mental breakdown.

For us fans too

Indeed it was Jaded.

Anguish, torture?? Is there even an adequate word to describe our pain right now??

High Performance manager is his title. Does psychology fall under him too? I agree with you, between the ears is a major flaw in team post 2021 and getting worse.

Said it for a while now he is an absolute fraudster!

The last 2 years from an overall fitness point of view have been pathetic on his behalf.

no it wasn't

partially, sure, but the inability to run out quarters, let alone games, has been pronounced for a long while now

he's gotta go

Today’s capitulation was not physical fitness, it was 99% psychological weak mindedness.

An ex Japanese POW teacher in my youth used to refer to people who give up as having low moral fibre which I believe to be an old military expression.

I would be interested to hear from anyone who observes ¾ time huddles - was Goodwin animated or being best mates with the players self congratulating for a job well done?

The fourth quarter was all between the ears.

But we faded late in the other quarters too.

We were older and more experienced than St Kilda today.

We haven't had our fitness right all year.

You don’t fit from kicking soccer balls round.

The culture review at the end of last year, showed that players wanted more control over the program, I’d say next year they have Zero input. ‘ Do the job you are paid well to do!!’

Where is Darren Shand in all of this????

What ever he did in the off season has been a complete Mind/skull 💀 f uk on the whole entire staff/playing group.

The Melbourne Football Club, also known as the Demons, recently engaged former All Blacks manager, Darren Shand, to conduct a review of their football department. This review came in response to concerns about the club's culture and the performance of certain players like Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver, and Joel Smith, as well as the departures of CEO Gary Pert and president Kate Roffey. Shand's perspective, formed after the review, suggests that the club's issues are not as dire as perceived by the outside world and are "very solvable".

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

  • The Review:

The Melbourne Football Club sought an external review of their football department, aiming to address concerns about the club's culture and player performance.

  • Darren Shand's Role:

Shand, a former All Blacks manager, was brought in to conduct this review. His experience with building a strong culture within the New Zealand national rugby union team made him a suitable choice.

  • Shand's Findings:

Shand's assessment differed from the prevailing narrative, which painted a picture of a club on the verge of collapse. He found that while there were some issues, they were isolated and solvable. He emphasized the positive aspects of the club's culture and leadership under coach Simon Goodwin.

  • Focus on Solvability:

Shand highlighted the importance of addressing the specific issues rather than allowing them to be magnified by the outside perception. He stressed the collaborative effort between players, coaches, the CEO, and the board in tackling these challenges.

Problem for us is Selwyn is an injury management guy. And our injury list has been brilliant.

What we need is a new fitness coach.

Yes 💯 his injury prevention management of the players has been world class as for our overall fitness its been diabolical.

From an endurance and speed standpoint we have been lacklustre and we either fade late or start games sluggishly.

New Fitness boss extremely high on the list of changes for the club.

It's going to be difficult with Goody's pay out and Seleyn's wage in the FD soft cap.

Can you see much changing if we don't make change?

I've never seen a more angrier Demon supporter group than tonight on every level.

We are going to bleed money next year in terms of memberships, potential sponsors, financial backing from wealthy supporters from this latest debarcle.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
