I did too (pick them to rise), but not because of their list as much as the fact that nicks had implemented a game plan and system that reflect what successful teams have put in place - fast  effective transition from the back half.

And they appeared to be super fit.

Together this made them offensively strong - they scored more points than any other team last year  which is pretty remarkable given they didn't make the 8.

My query was their defensive system, but i assumed nicks was sorting offence first before sorting the defensive system.

And perhaps that's what they have been focusing on as they have really slowed their ball movement (of course that could be a result of opposition coaches implementing tactics to negate their strengths - or a bit of both).

They may come good. But they don’t look as fit as last year and i don't agree their group of younger players are that talented. We have a more talented group of 22 and unders.

And I'd add that they relied a lot on Walker last year, and he looks like a crock thus far, and Fogerty is one dimensional and like Walker zero help in terms of contributing to all team defence. Two plodders.

Thilthorpe looks a player, but he'll be lucky to play this season with the time frame for his knee injury still 4-5 months.

I also thought the Crows would be moving up the ladder this year, they were hard done by to not reach the finals and I felt they were one of the fittest teams at the end of the home and away. Think had they made finals they may have won one or two.

I haven’t seen much of them this year but I wonder if the Burgess fitness factor loses its edge after a couple of years?!  Our fitness certainly dropped off the year after he left. Perhaps that was down to that fact that his hard running/train through injures type of training is hard to maintain for any longer than a couple of seasons.

Selwyn Griffith was questioned in his first year but perhaps our drop in fitness was more to do with a Burgess hangover.

I wouldn’t be overly concerned about the 5 day break… Adelaide get one day extra but they had the long haul flight back from Perth and their game was possibly a much harder fought affair than was ours (I imagine in similar temperatures?).

3h 20m is long haul these days?

Thanks Demon Dynasty for posting this.

I quite enjoy them.

I'm actually more worried about this game than the last one.

I guess because Crows are so desperate for a win.

And although the umpires were half decent last round, I can't see it happening twice.

I'm also worried about the five day break given we played it hot conditions and have not a few injuries.

If we come back from SA with eight points I won't whinge about Gather round. Unless we lose over there next year.

Hoping to get over there one year. Despite the Port fans, SA is a beautiful state.

This.
Ive been more worried about this game than port. I think it’s because port was 50/50. This game we should really be winning which the old Melbourne in me goes ‘this is the game we are meant to win and won’t’ 😂

Sounds like we're both experiencing a slight case of mfcss.

I watched the Adelaide game last weekend

They were rubbish. Tried hard, but they had no system. It was all kick and hope.
We will win

Keep Rankine and Rachele quiet and we should win. They are the sparks and have been poor so far

McVee and Howes will be busy

Funny thing is we play them at the worst possible time. It’s literally season on the line type stuff. The players and coaches know it.

Two weeks from now irrespective of their form line would have been much better.

I’d expect nothing but a super intense crows team.

Mine was cured in 2021 DG.

However, some of those suffering MFCSS were apparently more severe and may need a second jab! 🌡💉

We'd all like a second jab. I'd be happy with 3 or 4 jabs in the next few years please.

I actually think we've learned alot from last season LD.  We certainly won't be going in taking them lightly that's for sure.

The recovery factors are there though.

I'm also looking to go next year but hopefully the AFL aren't looking to crucify us for the Tax Payer Park snub and have us playing the two home teams off a 5 day break again!

Chris Scott said something decent on that this morning....why are the teams hosting Gather round both getting an extra home game?

Just have them play each other in this round.  Seems to make sense, except at HQ.

You're underestimating the deep seeded corruption. At the AFL it would make no sense at all to have the two SA teams play each other in Gather Round...This model provides cream for the investors (SA Govt) at no cost to the AFL

😀

Not really, but, the 3h 20m flight itself is only a part of the journey.

It would be double that in total travel time when adding in travel to the airport, standing around at the airport, waiting to taxi, waiting to disembark, more standing around at the airport then bussing/driving home.

A few extra crumbs from the West Lakes charcuterie post the Caps run yesterday and Viney getting a dose of the squirts...

Watch him still come out and probably be BOG

Nah that will be saved for Petracca, Oliver, May, Gawn, Lever or Fritsch

And a rookie on the wing

If as a collective our playing group could make better decisions we probably would be 2-1.  Unfortunately they all share the same brain cell

Viney is a gun and if he's off his game all the better for us. Better still if he pulls out.  I don't wish him ill, ...but yeah I do.😂

Won't make a difference. Whoever they replace him with will still be better than our best mid

Yeah, and you're saying that a 5th string mid for Melbourne is better than a guy that was AA 3 games ago. At least doom post in reality.

Well given Dawson was an AA mid last season, their replacement probably isn't better than our best mid.

Have you watched us play this year?

The only way we win this game is if it is rigged.

Well we have both Williamson & Fleer, so it won't be rigged in our favour!

****ing Williamson!!!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Nankervis, Dowling and Curtin all need to come in.  Lets hope with the Gather round wankfest they are holding off announcing debuts just yet

lol Chris Scott suggesting the SA teams should play each other in gather round as a third showdown, wait for it… due to it being unfair.  So Chris how many clubs play each other 3 times in the main season?

How many games do Geelong play outside of Victoria this year? 7.  How many games at that cigar shaped piece of poo? 9.  Yeah, it’s unfair.

Surely they can’t be serious when they make these statements, has to be tongue in cheek

They are a special breed across the border.

At a crows gather round clinic with my son.  They have sent out all the sanfl players. The kids would hardly know them, some of the stations don’t even have crows players doing it.  Also they aren’t holding any other clinics over the weekend (which they easily could given their game will be done and they haven’t traveled, looks like they’ve taken the opportunity to hold the session before an open training session (which sucks for the kids as they have to wait with the adults to get things signed).  [censored] poor AFC

It’s only because they’ve cheaped out and held it before their captains run.
Grow some balls and hold one on the weekend after the game when some of the A players can attend.

Dowling part of the clinic, does that mean no debut?

FFS.  Possibly yeah

No Nank so he might be in.

Guy Sebastian there, might have brought him in to be a duo with Rankine

Seriously can't wait to get pumped by 10 goals.
Nankervis - deserving
Cook - Soft AF. Sholl V2
Berry - Love his ability to tackle. I wish fumbles were recorded as a key stat because he'd lead them every week.
Parnell - Like the lad but being a 3 foot 8 midget who can kick has it's down falls
Butts - Can't wait to watch his inability to hit a target within 30m in the D50 then hold up the play and bomb it down the line, yay.

Since somebody mentioned cohesion last week... Let's continue to not reward blokes who are in form (dowling).. What a s**t environment. Then you've got GC who're debuting 3 kids this week.. If I'm Curtin I'm requesting the trade at the end of this year.

May and Lever to take 45 marks between them

I reckon this might get ugly.  Dees by 39

That's not that ugly.

Probably the line...

I'm on board with the George Kramer call. Have gone Crows by 57 points

Yep. Let's go. 9 or 10 goals sound about right.

We win tomorrow night you all better hail me (GK)

Straight jackets someone get the straight jackets

Gonna save myself the frustration by not watching this game. If we win i will take a look.  i'm not expecting to see the game. Hopefully the players throw nicks gameplan in the bin.

May having 14 odd days between getting his ribs broken and cartilage damage, i will be [censored] if he drops into the hole and no one puts a knee into them within the first 15min, even better someone "accidently" puts a shoulder into them before the first bounce

The only thing giving me hope is remembering that "ring the bell" match a couple years ago when absolutely nobody thought we could beat them and we got over the line by a point or something, with Murray (or was it Doedee?) getting away with the most obvious deliberate you've ever seen in your life in the last few seconds.

Are you ready to be [censored]ed?!?!

Don't do it to yourself....
Stop hoping for the win. That's how they get you.
Resign yourself to the fact we continue to be a rabble and will not achieve any level of success with the back the boys club in control.

Adelaide have been getting closer and closer to beating us in last few matches, unlucky to not have beaten us last game if not for their inaccuracy. I am surprised they've struggled but very weary of them, they play a very fast and attacking style once up and about. I like how we look very level-headed, this with keeping the crowd quiet should get us the win. But think it'll be tight, their home ground and desperate outfit to get their season going, Dees by 8.

Yep, agreed. We will always have the additional umpiring disadvantage over here in SA, as well, particularly against the Crows - moreso than with the Port team/fans/influences. We had better play cleanly, equally fast (at least) and exploit the flanks and spaces moving forward. It is going to be a win acquired/earned by loads and loads of team supported two-way running; this will most probably give Fritta, BBB, Kozzie and Chandler heaps of suited opportunities, as well. Interesting possibilities might well accrue.

Some gold there.

All sounds very familiar.

Swap out goody for nicks and dees players for the crows mentioned and you could be reading any 2019 prematch thread on Demonland.

For example:

Butts (read any number of dees players) - Can't wait to watch his inability to hit a target within 30m in the D50 then hold up the play and bomb it down the line, yay.

Hopefully the players throw nicks (read goody's) gameplan in the bin.

Its a shame our rail network is so lame and expensive for what it's worth.

If the Gov was serious about climate change they could spend some $ there.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
