I did not realise how undersized Verral looked up against McKay

He's not that tall is he.

But he is a big boy. And given he is only 20, by they time he hits his peak at 24-25 and fully fills he is going to be a beast.

Alot to like from the the little bit we saw last night i reckon.

Very excited about Salem moving up and the addition of Windsor/Billings.

What's this fella complaining about

It was silly by Kozzy. Don’t need to be doing that whether it’s practise or real AFL. It would have been 3 more weeks if he caught him high.

Heads up, Praha… we play Sydney in Sydney on Thursday the 7th of March 2024 at 7:30pm (AEDT). Here’s an idea, sounds crazy I know, but it might just work..

PUT IT ON YOUR CALENDAR! 😁

We looked great but we still have not addressed our goal kicking accuracy. I appreciate that it was very hot and the boys  have come off a very heavy loaded pre-season but massive shanks off the boot are a bad look

Agreed. I really don’t know why we pay attention to the footy media. I suppose it’s hard to avoid and when you do read the comments it’s frustrating and annoying. . It’s a world influenced by media. Social media has just made it a lot worse. Standards have dropped and commentators exhibit their biases, laziness and need to be noticed. We need to avoid them all. I now avoid most of the mainstream commercial media particularly Murdoch based organisations. They are appalling.
Dunstall is bad but he has many mates. Tell me a good one. However, their laziness and lack of homework is annoying. Stick with DL for information, commentary and spirited debate.

I have gone off the Chief he goes out of his way to call “frees” against us but doesn’t recognise a throw when he sees it. Don’t like any one sided nits, he reminds me a bit of Malcolm Blight. Doesn’t like the Dees.!!!

That's exactly right - i think that is a key factor in the positive confirmation bias for tracc.

Nibbla suffers from whatever the opposite is to the halo effect.

Ironically, it's called the horns effect, but in demon world, I'm a fan of the horns

He is listed at 199cm/96kg but i think that's generous

Would be a good CHF/CHB in my opinion due to his skillset

Here is a pic of him with Josh Weddle from Hawthorn who is listed at 192cm

Just for comparison sake Harry McKay is 200cm, Josh Schache 200cm, Tom Fullarton is 200cm and Will Verrall is listed at 199cm same size as LJ but still a bit leaner. Whereas Farris-White is a 206cm ex-basketballer who hopefully gets extra time to develop into a high jumping ruckman.

Tomlinson has now had 6 goals kicked on him in the last two practice games. He does not instill confidence in me after that! Howes took a good mark but did little else. I'm not sure I would play either next week!

We kept a forwardline with two Coleman medalists to 60 points. That's all that matters to me. Tomlinson plays round 0 because the whole works better with him in the defensive 7.

gotta have something

I thought the way Bill (Laurie) got up off the turf was amazing.

Wrestled for the ball off his feet, when he got hold of it, back up.

It was the fastest transition I've seen from anyone.

He also has a great learning trajectory, still improving.

I know everyone has Petty pencilled in as a forward after his 6 good quarters last year (admittedly so did I) but if our delivery into 50 is improved and Schache/Fullerton can put up 10 touch, 4 mark, 2 goals stat lines.  Petty down back is an amazing thought.  Carlton don't kick 40 points last night.

Not a knock on Tomlinson, he played on the best 2nd tall in the comp so it can only get 'easier'.

Wasn't Bowser hit on the chin by a bump from one of their players.

It was a closely contested ball. Bowey got to the ball first and quickly disposed of it, collision happens, and Bowser can be seen testing his jaw as the trainers come out and do a HIA.

I thought the head was sacrosanct!

Kossie likes to niggle.

I'm with you Praha.  Season starting way too early and goes too long for mine.

I'd be happy with 18 rounds plus the bye!  Everyone plays each other once.  That's 19 weeks.  Plus 5 weeks of finals including the first week as a bye yes?  24 weekends or effectively almost 6 months of footy!

The only reason we go another 6 rounds is the almighty $$.  Makes no sense to have a fixture where some teams end up playing each other twice, potentially 3 or 4 times if you include finals.

The dumbest comment in internet history.

Oliver is a statistically proven poor kick and he’s undoubtedly a ball hunting player more than a receiving. He does provide quality run and defensive effort, but he’s more of what we have. At his best he helps up play like 2021 finals, but what we need to adapt our game plan is Salem.

Salem skirts the pack, sees angles, uses the ball in a different way. That’s what our midfield needs. With or without Clarry.

Exactamundo.

Tomo might struggle to hold his spot down back it Tmac is up and about (big of - and to be honest i prefer tomo anyway, plays within his limitations better) and/or when turner is fit and firing.

But plays his role and allows Lever to plays his.

And besides no shame in being out marked by Mackay when the ball comes in fast and he is one out.

And for Petracca, the halo effect - the assumption that everything he does is magnificent because in general, is such a high quality player

I really liked what i saw in the middle from Salem.

I call it the Salo effect.

Wish it could be quantified beyond points against but seems more than a coincidence we concede less when he is down back with may and lever

it's not just about intensity, you can be intense all you want but if the other guy has 15 kg on you.  I say let Josh Schache eat all the meat pies he wants for a while.

Surely Jj Rogan Josh is preferred. Meat pies are so passé.

This is the thing, the alternative is Lever plays on McKay or Curnow and then we lose his intercepting. Plus McKay will still probably kick 2-3 goals on him anyway and will do so against some of the best defenders in the comp.

You need to look at what works best as a unit, not just 'oh Mckay kicked goals on Tomlinson so he was poor'

I actually saw that one. Kozzie gave him a decent bump VERY late. I must admit I did think something similar, that's dumb.

Love Kozzie but just needs to reign it in occasionally. Especially when the ball is 50m away and the umpire is right next to you.

I had switched over to the Matildas by this stage so I didnt see the incident. Probably could have just saved time and gone back onto Kayo and found it tho!

Wasn't sure if was just Carlton tears or a legitimate grievance. Guess thats the risk when you play on the edge like he does.

What I find jaw droppingly confundicating is that in the Match Day thread, the only mentions that ANB got were critical of his play early on, after which there was no mention of him at all??!!! Then, to make matters worse, in the Post Game thread where posters were giving us highly detailed lists of players that impressed them and why, again not one single mention of ANB!!

The guy had 83% game time, was equal second in possessions with 23, and his tackling figures were in the top five. He worked his [censored] off for the entirety of the game, and was one of our most effective players.

He was without a doubt one of the best on ground and certainly deserving of much more credit than the Demonlanders give him.

*Scratches head*

I honestly feel like I live in a parallel universe in which I am watching a different player. He is a fanastic player (and person by all accounts). The stats bear this out. He has had some famous clangers, no doubt - but when you dispose the ball a lot, logic dictates that you'll do so poorly more frequently than others.

JVR’s first half was very exciting. I suggest that along with Salem’s impressive performance in the middle ,a position he hasn’t played since his junior days, the 2 were the biggest of a myriad of positives from last night.

JVR is too good 1v1 for middle of the road defenders like Kemp. As he gets stronger, he'll become more of a handful for the likes of Weitering.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
