I hope he really pushes our wings next year. I felt Hunter in particular was too comfortable in his role and lacked intensity in many games last year.

Its interesting not since maybe 2017 have we drafted proper inside mids. The last few years we have looked to improve our outside players with a bit more class. Rivers (2019). Bowey (2020), McVee (2021) Windsor (2023).

As its been stated often here, our midfielders lack consistency with their affective disposal by foot so adding these types and building them into the best 22 can only help.

I think Windsor will start well behind Howes, Woey and even McVee for a wing position in 2024. I hope we just let him settle into the VFL system first and build his tank.

As always, very excited by new recruits coming to the club.  Hope is one of the secrets to a happy life.

I'm not sure how likely it is that these new kids will be playing next year, I dare say they are more likely in the coming years when Langers & Hunter may not be on the wings anymore, or Tracc is spending more time up forward than in the middle.

After years of MFCSS, the one thing I have been cured of is distrust in the recruiters.  They have done a fantastic job the last 5+ years and the club seems to have the right culture for success.  I'm sure these kids can get the most out of themselves in the MFC environment and with the right approach.

Even though I was hoping for Curtin I am very happy with Caleb Windsor, has speed, endurance and great foot skills and will provide that outside class that we were crying out for this year. Really looking forward to seeing Caleb force his way into our best 23.!!

Seems to have a nice low ball drop which is often a sign of good kickers.

Tracc could learn something!

Spot on.

I can't believe how many players at  AFL level don't guide the ball right onto the boot. Doing so is kicking technique 101.

Tracc is the perfect example of a player that drops the ball miles from the boot. Such poor technique.

It's weird actually because as an elite basketballer he would have had the importance of good technique drilled into him at every basketball training session.

TMac became a great kick for goal when he started guiding the ball onto his boot. Its a very low drop with a smaller margin for error.

I can see McVee, Rivers and Windsor combining well for fast ball movement into the forward line.

also have hopes for Woey mark2 and Howes, the forgotten man.

Yep.

JVR looks a bit clunky as he walks in to shoot for goal but also guides the ball right onto his boot which is big reason he is so accurate.

Wattsy was smoother but again guided the ball on to the boot and was deadly accurate.

The other similarity between those three players is a short, slow run up when kicking set set shots. Basically kicking off just a few steps. Simple techniques with few moving parts and less things that can go wrong.

At the end of the day when you have someone like JT calling the shots you back him in with any 'reach' picks.

I still remember the melts on here when we took Clarry at pick 4.

IMO Rivers will end up as an inside mid

So would I! He's a gun recruiter.

I just saw the new highlights package on melbournefc.com.au in which he looked stronger in the contest than the reel I saw prior on AFL.com.au.

Funny, I reckon after we drafted him Windsor looked stronger in the contest even in the reel that had been up prior. He also looks taller, faster and more agile than I recall. Hard to understand how he wasn’t in the conversation for pick 1!

May have been posted already somewhere, but this replay of the Vic Metro vs WA has all 3 (hopefully) young Melbourne recruits.  Eg, Windsor, Tholstrup and Brown. Worth a watch.

I think he will play early on.

I don't believe we recruit a top 10 player to spend much time at Casey.

Good players learn to play AFL by playing at the level.

I love that he's already focussed on getting his first game.

A GREAT pick, unsure which I am happier with as we need a Windsor, best kick in draft, FAST as all hell in 1st 20m (where it counts) and makes smart decisions under pressure on the run (continually looks sideways, at angles etc) -- but KT could genuinely be the steal of the draft, with many insiders feeling he has a ceiling like few others (maybe only Harley aside), so if he finds that roof, boy.... somewhere between a Heeney and Trac!

I wouldn’t be discounting Windsor, or any of the top 12-15 players from being regular senior contributors in 24.

Last years top 15 almost all played regular AFL in 23. Anyone not playing key positions got a lot of exposure at senior level.

PICK 7 - CALEB WINDSOR (Melbourne)

"It's bloody awesome. I can't believe it. I did not expect to be a top 10 pick. I'm so grateful for the opportunity they've given me. Probably the best feeling ever when all my best mates jumped on me when I got my name called out. Half of my family goes for [the Demons] so I know a bit about them! Obviously want to play my first game, stay in the team and win a premiership. I play on the wing and I pride myself on my pace and my defensive pressure."

Love this quote “stay in the team and win a premiership”

He has a personality. Sure, needs to back it up, but I enjoy when they display some ambition and honesty.

Was a great time to be alive if you like good value entertainment over footy results.

And our recruiting staff were seen as a company of B-grade actors.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
