Lochie O’Brien

Featured Replies

Lochie O Brien is wanting to continue his career at another club. Is he worth a punt? Chocco would be good for his development.

If we were recruiting blokes for Casey twos.

I think we are a bit light on for depth in that area to be fair, whenever Langdon or Hunter go down we have to draw from other areas which weakens the forward line, midfield or half back line.  Having someone in the twos waiting and putting pressure on the position (for the right price) isn't a bad idea.

I would have thought Howes should be aiming for a wing spot in 2024. In order to get a chance he really needs to work very hard on his fitness this off season (see J McVee) We are pretty well set for HBF and personally I see Howes more of an outside runner / linkman than hard one on one defender. Just my opinion though.

Not sure he ever delivered two consecutive AFL-standard games, and there have been murmurs about his attitude for years.

Part of the reason Carlton spent a decade out of finals.

No thanks.

you mean like Blake Howes?

Big pass.

Subpar skills, poor decision maker and nowhere near physical enough.

Would prefer to give Blake Howes or AMW a crack instead.

Choco cant work miracles.

And making an AFL player out of this bloke would take a miracle.

James Jordon

Oh that’s right, we didn’t rate him

JJ is not fast nor an elite user. He is best suited for an inside mid role.

....i am an elite runner!    (O brien)

Fine, train for the  Paris Olympics.

Huge PASS on any ex Blues player.

Theyre not delisting a player who would be a regular participant in their AFL sponsored 2024 season.

My best friend who is a Carlton supporter literally texted me that she's never been happier to see a player delisted.

No, thank you.

I would have been in the minority about a week ago and said yes as we need some rebounding half back flankers with Hibberd retiring, Joel Smith going forward and Deakyn Smith being delisted. Yes I know O'Brien mainly played wing, but he spent time at half back as well.

After seeing that the filth delisted Trent Bianco the other day however, I would rather take a punt on him.

I'll back JT to find us a better option at the back end of the draft.

O'Brien might find a home, but odds are against him carving out a permanent role anywhere.

I believe he was one of the 1st rounders we gave up for Jake Lever. Lol!

Are there any AFL players who were not involved in the Lever and May trades?   l0l

OBrien could always give Essendon a tickle. Theyll recruit almost anyone with a heartbeat from another club especially a flag club.

Remember when MFC recruited Catoggio and Young from Carlton.

They thought "we're onto something here".

yeah  another spoon.

Essendon might be the surprise dumpster fire along with Freo in '24.. Schultz said on a podcast he left because Freo dont respect some players and treat them like dirt.

Reality is he has been a flop for the Blues considering he was a No.10 draft pick. Has shown ability and promise on occasions but never delivered consistently. His 2022 season was decent and I thought 2023 was the season for Lochie to step up to another level. Alas, he hasn't been able to grasp his opportunities and appeared to regress from the previous season.

If there is room in the Demons list he might be worth a punt. Would see him primarily as a Casey player and as back up. This would be his last chance so that might motivate him to make the changes he needs.

I think a draftee would probably be a better option to be honest. Ollie Hollands at Carlton was a new draftee and a revelation as a winger (No. 11 in the 2022 draft) and is certainly a first 22 player at the Blues now.

one of the greatest heists ever - doesn't even show that the crom traded all those picks for bryce gibbs, who was out of the competition before his contract with them even expired

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
