You can run the same “it’s a waste” argument for any of the 17 sides who don’t win the flag.

Part of the fun of football is going to and following the games each week.

I’ll never lose that, I don’t think. I suppose others might not share my view.

I know plenty on here are effectively telling everyone else to stop enjoying the 2021 flag, which to me is pretty much hurtful to see coming from fellow MFC supporters.

I'm not telling other people to stop enjoying the flag, I never will either.

I'll likely rock up to every game like I always do and put the game first sometimes over personal things (again like I always do). I was at my brother's birthday dinner in March when Max did the MCL, I was watching on my phone then went dead silent and then walked out of the restaurant and didn't come back. Pretty stupid and unbalanced behaviour.

After being a 25+ year member and going to games for most of that time to enjoy the game purely for the fun of it and not mind the constant drubbings we were being handed out, it seems only fair that a bit of success be the reward and to perform in these games, especially after having 21 taken from us.

So that's the way I feel right now. Life is a big spectrum, the game is great but there is plenty more than just football in it. And theres more than investing and hoping for 6 months that something will happen but doesn't. More power to you if you can move on very quickly from it though.

Toss up for me between Oliver giving away 50 and Lever kicking down the line when we just had to ice the clock. Lever is a complete liability with ball in hand and half the time without it as well.

Lever was one of our best tonight. Him and May are the reason we lost by 2 points and not more.

Maybe point your frustration at Viney who had zero composure all night and just completely banged it onto his boot straight to a Carlton defender.

For a guy that supposedly thrive in big games Viney has been sub par in the finals campaign the last 2 years.

Him and Oliver were putrid tonight.

Also gets the fumbles way more than other elite players in the comp.

I think he's a great club man and shows great passion for the club, but he's overrated in general and also can be very poor defensively.

Your negativity is tiresome but tonight’s the night to let it out, so who cares, except for this.

If you think Petracca is “overrated in general” you have NFI.

You bang on about how poor our club’s culture is - do you think any other club’s members would speak like this about a player who is one of the competition’s elite both statistically and influentially?

There is so much you can fairly pot tonight but if you’re going to run with this, get stuffed mate.

This was not a choke. It was the culmination of a collective denialism inside the club that has its roots dating back to just after the 2021 premiership. I must admit, I've been a part of the cult that has refused to accept an empirically verifiable reality.

I think I am slowly awakening to some very stark truths. They aren't pretty.

. . . but I'll always have Paris - and for that, I'm eternally grateful.

I know one moment doesn't cost us the match, but after Viney's dump kick directly to Weitering, Holland marking in front of Hunter then McVee failing to impact the mark by Docherty, that final mark to Acres was against Fritsch, playing spare in defence. But who should have been on Acres, who'd been sitting there on his own for a while?

Tommy Mac has been a great Club servant. Only thing i blame him for is declaring himself fit for a tough finals campaign.

Goody had to pull the pin on him in last, I actually thought the third.

Only thing i blame  Viney for is being on the ball for so long. Goody had to give other mids opportunity during the year.
Only thing I blame Max for is not remonstrating more with the umpires as he is getting held and bashed.
Only thing I blame Goody for is..  well one is the automatic choice of our wings all year.

i enjoyed the season, it didnt roll our way and the path ahead is bright with some good off season work, players and coaches.

one final thing has anyone ever seen a coach give any kicking advice at a break

I agree

Putrid maybe over critical

Less than affective...yes

@Super Sub Schache love the name change 🤣🤣

You gotta laugh or you'll cry

We shot ourselves in the foot but [censored] hell that non decision to pay deliberate against Walsh then deliberate against Petracca a second later which they goal from, then a minute later the exact same thing happens where they toe it out of bounds on our forward 50 and it's a throw in I mean what the [censored]? That's the AFL in a nutshell, the rules are so subjective they can choose which ones to pay and which ones not to and they can always claim to be technically correct.

I'm sick of it, watch Kozzie get suspended as well even though Cripps played out the game meanwhile Maynard is free to play and Gus misses 2 games the competition is completely [censored].

Wouldn't surprise me to see several others get cited too, Sparrow for slinging Walsh into the fence, Viney taking someone high, Smith for elbowing Weitering accidentally, May because he didn't roll out the red carpet for Curnow....

Ive  never seen a goal overtired like that.  The review was inconclusive

That's 4 goals in 2 weeks that the AFL pets have got from crooked score  reviews. Add in onefrom Petracca in rd 22 and its simply corruption at the highest level

We did everything in our arsenal to lose the match bad conversion, missed kicks at crucial times etc.

Mind you though every key decision and concussion protocols went their way just fuggin unbelievable.

You could just see it all unfolding a mile away whether it be 50's, Saads deliberate, concussions, high tackles on Kozzie, reverse frees, sparrow wrestling free, deliberate handballs out of bounds, Gawn getting manhandled friggen endless.

Just a real mess from the AFL from last Thurs, during the week and tonight,if this [censored] happened overseas or to the filth or Carlscum there would be riots.

Need to also add our fans are shocking. So quiet and sitting there silent with arms crossed even when we kick goals (rare I know)… embarrassing when the entire Blues members erupts for a goal and we only have 6 people stand up!!

Use to go the the Australian Open and watch Layton Hewitt lose in close five setters and then see the guy that beat him go on and win the title. If this ends up being a Pies Vs Blues Grand Final that's just what it is going to feel like.

When Lever kicks it out, we have more numbers behind him than Carlton did.

As part of our general panicked choke, we lost all structure in the next 20 seconds and had too many come up out of the D50, leaving too much space, let alone an unguarded Acres, out the back.

The string of deliberates was insane. Saad’s was blatantly deliberate.

We copped the raw end of the umpiring stick all night. Add it to the list of what went wrong.

Ya know what.
I hate watching us play.
There .... I said it.

No flair, no dare, just dour, scrappy, fumbly forken sheet.
Week after forken week.

I refused to watch the Swans under Roos.
Aints and Dockers under Lyon.
And now I'm stuck watching our BS under Goodwin.
We're supposed to be good, but my god we're garbage to watch.

It was a very poor coaching performance. Goodwin was exhausted and you could tell. Schache as a sub. The coaching team just wasn't thinking straight. They were out of ideas. Spargo is a good role player but isn't winning you a game in the 4th. Our match winners choked.

It was poor decision making to target Grundy and then not even back him in. You think bringing a player in like that who has such significant cultural impact as he did, almost immediately being "one of the boys" to suddenly being overlooked, doesn't have some sort of impact? Bringing in guys like Jordon when you have even a spark like Woewodin waiting to bring some energy in. Throughout 2022 refusing to play JVR so that in 2023 he is essentially still a rookie and inexperienced.

It's a learning curve for Goodwin still and I'm sorry and people can attack me but I've never seen a choke like this in my life watching football. We were spooked so bad. And it completely dilutes the value of our flag. Some here refuse to admit it because they live in a bubble but as soon as we come up against the big boys we choke. And Goodwin is yet to show the coaching nuance to counter it.

100%

TMac was useless last week and worse this week, Grundy could've surely offered something more. You then have the benefit of not being stuck with Schache (Schache!) as sub.

Club wide choke from match committee to the captain to the bootstudder (yep even the bootstudder isn't escaping the vitriol tonight)

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
