There are only three things I know to be true this morning:

  1. The umpiring will have an influence on the outcome of the game
  2. Taylor will destroy the quiet enjoyment of the game (I'll be watching on TV in Queanbeyan)
  3. If we win by a goal, @joeboy will declare everyone "is a champion" or "played their part", and if we loose by a goal, six blokes should never play another game for the MFC.

some thing😉s will never change QD

My wife and I are heading off on a slightly delayed honeymoon tomorrow (child free) so tonight is the last night we will see our little ones for a whole week. Going to soak up the time with them and give tonight a miss I think, see you all on the other side.

I've got the same feeling.

While I wouldn't say I feel it's that likely, but gee I'd love it if we could actually get off to a flyer in the first quarter for once this year and control the game from start to finish.

Getting a bit over most of our games comming down to the wire this season.

If we win tonight I'm calling this as the best whole of club effort since the grand final in 21 Bar None.

Either this team will give its all

We'll be fine tonight...  with our finals experience....
Yep all good ...oh wait...lost our last 3 finals... going well..hmm

We'll  need to be ON from the first bounce... that'd be novel !!

Goodwin is backing his system  ( there is NO fwd system )..  he is expecting the goals to come from ???   Our kicking has been [censored]..  Petty was ok.. oh wait..  Milky was great....oh wait again..  Rooyen can kick...  oh oh...   Fritch got the yips... hasnt been too crash hot back from injury..   no one can hit a barn.
My advice to self ....get on the beers !! ;) Go Dees ( just not out the door....again ) lol

We do have a forward system @beelzebub, it's called "kick it to the clump!"

We got ripped off during the week so much, I think we've forgotten about Marchbank cheating and that bogus review.

Just another reason to bury them by quarter time,

Not that I’m superstitions, but has anyone else noticed ,I think the 3 times that Kozzie has kicked the first goal of matches*, we’ve gone on to lose… perhaps this should be in the ‘breaking embarrassing records thread’

*could just be confirmation bias

Still not sure if you're talking about your children or the 23 magnificent humans going into battle at 7:50pm tonight.

The Love Shack is 'break glass' only. We are only at the slash wrists stage.

Hard to get massively psyched, credit to those who are but the deja vu of losing the QF and playing a semi again is draining even with a media blackout and people ribbing you about another potential straight sets exit. Not playing a scrub either, we're playing a side full of belief and 10 wins from the last 11. I don't like pumping up my positivity too much before these games because then you just start tearing your hair out when you aren't smashing them, this really is one of those games you have to just wait and see and pre game talk from commentators really isn't going to add anything.

At first I thought selection was pretty safe but going all in on Max with a toe issue worries me a bit. Sure we might have something up our sleeve but how often does Goodwin go creativity over system? De Koning was impressive last time.

Then there's Tomlinson, in my view three defensive talls would have been more handy last week than this week. Hopefully it frees up Lever to do his thing and we generate a lot more score from turnover. I would love Spargo to get at least 12 possessions in this game in the wing/HFF area.

I'm past the point of caring whether the method stacks up or not and do not want to be talking about missed shots at goal costing us the game. Make it work, hit them on counters hard, get more running open goals. The pass mark in win, not method. I expect us to take the game on and try to expose Carlton's backline with smarter decision making and fewer dump kicks. We need to start very well and get a lead in this game because if Carlton with their contest game start well it's going to be very hard sailing. There will be time to play the territory game when we've got a lead, I'd love to see us start how we did against Brisbane with fast movement and looking through the corridor.

It's also been a rough week that would have likely had an effect on the guys. I see two ways this will go, we use it as supreme motivation that you can take to the bank or I see them quite drained and deflated which could cost us. I'd honestly understand either way but man I hope it's the former.

Just going to enjoy a game of footy tonight with not too many preconceived ideas or expectations, desperately hoping it's not our last for 2023 the year of the Dee. Let's go boys!

Nailed it for me layzie. I want to be more up, but I just can't get there, yet. Fortunately, my lower than usual confidence will have no affect on the players. I know we are a better side, it's our lack of connectivity with our forwards that worries me still. Not news to anyone here, I know.

Risky to go with a tall unless Max is really suspect.

I'm thinking Hibberd.

It's D Day! The sun is shining!☀️

It's a year on since we were bundled out of the finals at home...

...IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN

We're such a good side that even our classic/frustrating 1-2 qtr efforts have been enough to see off competitors. Most losses, we have beaten ourselves, or been dudded by ARC. We have dealt with limited/no forwards, so much so that we had to tap into a (seriously good) oldie but a goodie in Melk and a backman to keep us going. Even without them we have found ways to win.

We will be propelled by a desire to right last year's (and indeed last week's) wrong. We will be fuelled by Gus. We will continue our quest to add another premiership for this amazing club.

Won't be easy, the Blues are travelling well. Just needs buy in from everyone. Heart. And fire from the first bounce.

I've had my ups and downs this week since Thurs, but we're here now and it just feels right.

Dees by 19 pts.

Matt Kennedy is there to play a defensive role, not sure if that is on Oliver or Jake Lever.  I expect a mid role on Oliver and to protect cripps.

Just need a good start, the blues have been up for a long time, give them a sniff and we will be in trouble, jump them early hit the scoreboard and they will deflate very easy.

Also, we ran out the game against the Pies so well. The fitness is there. The Blues were in serious trouble against the Swans, and they had a big buffer to work with.

The answer? DO NOT GIVE THEM AN INCH. Whether we stay close or blitz them from the first bounce (PLS?), we know we can run out the game, and they likely can't.

Go Dees

MFCSS in full swing. Our selections worry me. Carlton will come out in full attack mode. Withstand it and keep the pressure up in 2nd half and they will go to water. They make a lot of mistakes late in games.

No idea why people are concerned with selection, we don't have a lot of options and the 3 we brought in are more the capable of doing their role.

No fumbles tonight please, cost us so many clean possessions and halted a surge forward numerous times because they couldn't hold onto the ball or pick it up clean hands guys

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
