I’m sort of hoping that our forward game plan will involve very quick sharp kicking in (breaking the lines, lowering the eyes) , not slow congested long bombs.

If and when it is bombed in (say from a centre clearance) again , speed is the essence.

And…. keep it locked in…. and kick accurately, and….

So a complete 180 from last week.

Not asking for much Wod.... seems reasonable.

At least from where i'm sitting! 😂

People here tend to have a negative attitude about JJ but a lot of that comes from him trying to play wing; as a proper running mid he is underrated.

He’s actually pretty good as a mid.

Has to be , I'd back him anywhere in the ground to make a contest. Even in the forward 50

Is hibbo being saved for next week as the best chance against Charlie Cameron.?

Bold move but goody may believe is worth the risk to keep him intact. Let the boys take care of the blues while he's kept healthy.

He did a solid job as a mid for a black of time allowing tracc to go forward

JJ is also a victim of competing with Trac, Viney and Oliver. He is serviceable as a midfielder.

not at all.  lower that to 188cm and you'd add a few.  Clarry missed that list by hair

Tall mids have been a priority and we have several talls injured

188cms is not a tall player in the modern game. In face the average height of an AFL player is 188.2 cms.

In terms of tall forwards over 195 we have a cooked TMac/Brown, spud Schache and a few kids.

Agreed

The non Hibberd section is mind boggling, he played a great game last week & you’d think his retirement could’ve given his teammates a little bit more motivation for a club favourite

Perfect opportunity for Grundy with Max a bit sore & Carltons two rucks

Spargo l can cop, at least he can spot up a target inside 50

And some people want Schahce as the sub

Ive lost all confidence now, it’s been lost at the selection table

Oh come on Billy, don’t lose your number

We breaking the glass  ?

I thought Grundy was valued at our club??? Those words will haunt Goodwin & could go down as the biggest flop of a trade & only Melbourne could manufacture this! Can’t help injuries but if Gawn is on one leg who will be out back up ruck???

It was clear from Brisbane game we excepted the dual ruck failed; since then it’s been all single Max. Gawn was BOG last week, perhaps on one leg, let’s back him to go again, he’s a genuine great who regularly performs when needed. I’m happy to back Max in.

if he gets injured that’s as [censored] as Trac or May getting injured. We can’t cover any of them regardless who the sub is.

So ... Chaps...Chapettes..  ( anything in between  )....

How do we feel about the looks of the team ?

Take all brouhaha and mock excitement away...   are we booking tix for Brissy... or checking out the Specials Board at Kooroora ??

I'm disappointed as to where we sit.

I fear another wasted year...

Cheers

Gut feel on seeing the names I wasn’t thrilled. I was hoping we’d go for Grundy in with Gawn 30% or more forward to drag in some marks. Was disappointed for Hibberd.

With more time to think about it Tomlinson makes sense, takes TDK or Pittonet and frees up Lever to play on a smaller fwd and take intercept marks. If Jack Martin was playing Hibbo probably stays in.

Spargo at least shows they know our delivery i50 was bad and someone needs to hit targets. Marks i50 are desperately needed. Whether he can do anything about that given his time out of the side is another matter but let’s hope.

Jordan was the obvious one, no other option really, he’s not brilliant but he’s consistent.

I think we win, half a game and 30-odd wasted i50s last week and we got close to the pies. Play 4 quarters and hit some i50 targets and we’ll have the blues covered.

Tbh I don't think they gave the gawndy combo a real chance. How many games did they play together in the dry?

They played a game at Marvel together and got belted by Marshall.

A bit off the pace but I have been invited to sit in the MCC tomorrow night is my match day polo acceptable as it does have a collar not sure on dress code. Appreciate feedback from someone in the know.😁👍

JJ is a natural inside mid. If he plays on ball, which I suspect he will since he’s replacing Gus, he will do well.

You play polo on match days? Little wonder we get stereotyped. 😄

Chopper straight from Portsea. Understable mix up. We should have the week off.

I just noticed that last year between our two finals losses we made no team changes between the QF loss and the SF loss. Hopefully a bit change (albeit two forced) will yield a result.

I like JJ too, would have him in front of Hunter, I’m sure I’ll get howled down for that

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
