I'm a no for Schache (I want to see him do well but he just doesn't seem a competitor) but you've argued that pretty well.

Goody and the match committee are very much process driven people.  Each player plays a role and if someone is injured or suspended then the next person in line comes in.  If Schache is not to play in this circumstance then why re-sign him.  If the delivery is good, he is actually capable.  Could his job be to nullify Weitering?

(Btw I'd still lean to Grundy))

Yeah agree, surely we didn't draft him just to play in the 2s.

He would be a decent matchup for Weitering. Very possible.

haha yeah, it's hard to argue in favour of leaving out an AA ruckman who can kick a goal or two

Really interested to see which way we'll go!!

He’s a star mate. A tough, premiership player. Literally had the norm smith until CP5 went platinum in the last 40 mins.

Agree Mate was a star clearly injured or crook cant kick or turn premiership was a world back in the past

Imagine what Grundy would be thinking on Friday night when he's up in the stands watching Schache taking his first centre ruck contest of the night.

I understand the potential selection because one can play forward and the other can't, but it's still hard to get your head around.

And when the siren sounds..  I'm outta here, tossing his cap in the bin on the way out 😞

Hard ask for 2 blokes 193cm up against a 211cm and 204cm

Sure.

But most opposition rucks are pretty tall.

Not only does he barrack for the Demons, at the rate our forwards are falling, he is odds on to line up at FF this week

It's an old one, but... Back in the day, a church in Hawthorn put up the topic for next week's sermon: "What would you do if Jesus came to Hawthorn?".  A couple of days later there was a scrawl underneath that said: "Move Brereton to centre half forward!"

And I think there are spots for at least six of the Apostles in the forward line, too.

Just to clarify what I read in the last minute regarding Tomlinson & Hibberd:

We had a team that was winning and playing well with Tomlinson alongside Lever & May.

We dumped Tomlinson after Richmond, brought him back against Hawthorn, then dumped him again for no reason to play Turner against Sydney. Turner wasn't great, but the team still won.

We then dumped Turner to play Hibberd against Collingwood. After a slow start Hibberd was okay, but the team lost.

We are now bringing back Tomlinson to play against Carlton without McKay, even though he didn't play when McKay did play in round 22.

The question is why, oh why, would you keep stuffing around with the competition's best defence at this stage of the season?

Binman reckons Tomlinson's failure to play all-team defence cost us three goals against the Hawks. Good enough reason to leave him out when we are losing by less than two goals each week?

As I’ve already said Hibberd is needed against Cameron and Elliot the next 2 weeks and can’t play 4 games in a row on his Achilles.

This. Hibberd is incredibly close to the end and simply can't back up multiple weeks in a row even though he is still good enough when he can get up for the game.

Keep Hibbo on ice for the GF

I think the answer was, "Move Hudson to Centre Half forward" though at the old Glenferrie Oval Full Forward is not that far from Centre Half Forward.

Correct. Thanks demoniac.  Brereton was never FF.

Because last week we wasted Lever as a lockdown for most of the game. Third tall means Lever can actually do what he does best

I thought the original response was..... "play him at CHF"  .... inferring that  Peter Hudson is God and remains at FF.  I never saw it in person but a few relatives did.

Well over 50 years ago.

Demon fans traveling in Turkiye. Me and my die hard son. Managed to find a bar in Istanbul to watch the Dees and Maggies. But now heading into more rural areas. Can anyone suggest a way to watch the Carlton dees game on our phone? Would appreciate any help. Go red legs!

So it’s feeling like Grundy, Spargo, Jordon into the 23 with Schache the dark horse now.. considering Turner didn’t train.

im gonna go with Thommo as sub, Jordon & Spargo in… massive risk but admits and McDonald can compete might help the bombing be less prevalent

Did Grundy train today ? ( i mean  really participate)

I really do believe we will win this. Not so confident about the Pf.

But it feels like the whole world is against us. Not just the Maynard  Incident.

But we will coming out breathing fire and jump this mob. Their campaign is finished. They are in for a very rude awakening .

Yes… I had mail it was 💯 Turner so still confused to how he wasn’t there today but for me Grundy HAS to play either way

Voss is hedging his bets with Silvagni.  Says he is available but hasn't played a game for over a month.  It is rare for a player with his # of preseasons to come back via the VFL.  .

They have lost a tall fwd have an injured #1 ruckman and only Silvagni covers both positions.  Pittoney and DeK are not fwds and they need another tall to help Curnow otherwise Curnow will be in for a harrowing night!!

If he isn't selected tonight I would expect a late change tomorrow.

Mind games...!

Round 12 kicks off with the Brisbane hosting Essendon at the Gabba as the Lions aim to solidify their top-two position against an injury-hit Bombers side seeking to maintain momentum after a win over Richmond. On Friday night it's a blockbuster at the G as the Magpies look to extend their top of the table winning streak while the Hawks strive to bounce back from a couple of recent defeats and stay in contention for the Top 4. On Saturday the Suns, buoyed by 3 wins on the trot, face the Dockers in a clash crucial for both teams' aspirations this season. The Suns want to solidify their Top 4 standing whilst the Dockers will be desperate to break into the 8.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

  • POSTGAME: Sydney

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.
