Schleicher is a decent out for them. Two time all Australian defender, Collingwood VC and first choice to play on Tayla Harris. Will also be interesting to see if they play Bri Davey after being close to not playing with hamstring issues.
If we kick straight we will win this.

PS I am really looking forward to the game. There seems to be something more authentic about women’s footy.

That's a strong side. Interested to see Campbell the only girl I don't know much about.

I think I was at a training last season when she was running around within the team.

If she is the same one I watched, I noticed she was a very good kick, and she is a reasonable size.

Both good attributes for us, as a key position player.

Worried that we're still vulnerable to not kicking big enough scores against good teams. Hopefully Campbell takes the second ruck heat off Harris to give us a permanent marking target inside 50.

I'm open to winning more Grand Finals 19-15 but it's a high risk strategy.

I saw Campbell is our first father daughter selection.

Do you know who the father is?

Defence is solid

Shelly and Goldy will stream off the HB line

Hit up Harris or put it in space for Bannan to run onto

Pies don't have a chance!

Congrats Tyla Hanks on game 50. Classiest player in the AFLW

Not a straightforward opener by any means, but we'll have too much for the pies.

It’s like how footy used to be.

I’m here now and although the game is over four hours away there’s an awesome vibe already. I just walked across the ground and the surface is perfect. 🥳

Very excited for this one, will have to watch from home though as my kids have an indoor cricket final. Oh, the glamour...

...I'm sure it's been raised elsewhere, but (as much as I love AFLW) could the fixture have been moved so it didn't conflict with the AFLM season?  I "feel" that starting now is taking the attention away from the league that it deserves.

Also, can something be done about Princes Park?  The ground is fine but the stands are appalling, the ancillary services worse and the toilets are terrifying.  Not really family friendly! Crazy as it sounds, I much prefer Victoria Park.

Great to have AFLW back, and a fantastic fixture to open the season with.

We have selected a very strong side, so there will be no excuses if we don't win. Hopefully the desire to go back to back is very strong.

Campbell is an interesting selection. Clearly we will try to nurse Pearce through the regular season, but we do look pretty tall with her in the team.

Hopefully we haven't sacrificed too much run, as this tends to be more important than size in AFLW.

I love Princes Park! The old stands have tonnes of character. I have so many great memories of this ground, from 20 years masquerading as a Carlton supporter ‘til more recently at the W games and training sessions and of course… the Casey Grand Final. ❤️💙🏆

Will be watching tonight.

Why are we unfurling the flag tonight at Carlton's home ground & not at Casey at our home game?

Where and when the unfurling takes place was the Club’s choice. Casey Fields was where they’d love to do it but they chose Ikon because the crowd will be bigger and the girls love playing here.

edit: of course they love playing at Casey more, but Ikon makes more sense.

The ladies' skills have been getting better and better each year, with last year a standout. I now really enjoy watching the Dees play. Will seem very different without Daisy playing, though. Good luck to Mick and the ladies for tonight and the whole season.

I think there’ll be quite a big crowd tonight. There’s already heaps of people here. Anyone who’s yet to arrive, come through Gate 6. The other Gates are closed or open, depending on who you ask. Gate 6 is definitely open. 👍🏽

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
