Rumoured Pies to play The 4the team on Thursday night ? If true how do the bottom 4 teams of the 8 get a longer break, understanding there is a weeks Break before the finals, if the Dees finish 4th that means the the swans get more time to prepare?

That's ridiculous if true. #FMD

I would have thought it would go something like this as follows.

Brisbane 2nd v Port currently 3rd. Thursday night 7.10pm.

Friday night 7.40pm Filth 1st v Melbourne currently 4th.

Carlton 5th v WB currently 8th/ BWS 9th Saturday 4.40 pm

St.Kilda 6th v Sydney currently 7th Saturday night 7.40pm

From memory last year it was

Bris 5th v Rich 8th Thursday night.

Melb 2nd v Syd 3rd Friday night.

Geel 1st v Filth 4th Sat twilight.

Frem 6th v WB 7th Sat night.

The top 4 have earned the extra days recovery.

Neither you DS or Ages understand the Finals situation.ย

All you need is about the same amount of time (11 days in our case or 12 the Pies)and it's not the Swans we are playing in the first game it's the Pies so no worries. ย

Exactly! wouldn't they allow the extra day on Friday for 12 days, this is incredible if true.

I stand to be corrected but the existing format was all top 4 had extra days, understanding that the week off for which you could argue isnโ€™t great helps, but Sydney could finish as low as 8th & for knowing the afl they will get the longest to recoverย

That would be disgraceful.ย  But normal for the AFL

Iโ€™d be concerned with our high performance department if they canโ€™t get our players at peak performance off an 11 day break for an all important final. The only concern is a potential concussion to any of our integral players. And even then thereโ€™s nothing we could do about that. Itโ€™s not as if theyโ€™d reschedule a grand final if someone gets concussed in a prelim - bad luck.

If thereโ€™s 3 finals at the MCG (provided we win today) then theyโ€™ll need to have a final there on Thursday night under the current week 1 system. Clearly theyโ€™re going to fixture the game thatโ€™s going to sell out on any given night. Conversely, theyโ€™ll put a low drawing St Kilda v Sydney in a friendly time slot to maximise crowd.

I donโ€™t like it but I understand it.

12 days is more than enough time. Iโ€™m not sure what the issue is.

If we win, we get a minimum 15 days off; if we lose, we get a minimum 8 days off, and at least an extra day to our opponents.

Only real problem is if we get any concussed player today, Thursday would put them out and the AFL would know that when arranging the games.

We would have to get Friday, as we finished higher than 5-8 teams and AFL would be seen to be openly manipulating a game.

An AFL official has already cost us possible top 2 place.

Non issue, this is the whole point of the bye.ย

Concussion protocol is 12 days and Thursday game is 11 days.

If we get a concussion itโ€™s a big issue.

That's still rubbish, Thursday night should be for one of the EF. Put Carlton there, it should have a good crowd.

Friday and Sat nights should be for both QF.

Would be an issue if there wasn't a Bye. should we have 2 weeks. or 3. when does it stop? And the loser get the longer break for the elimination the following week.

I hate the Bye think it should be only before the GF.ย

This is what, to me, is the most logic in terms of viewership and crowd numbers:

Thur - MCG Carlton v GWS/Bulldogs

Fri - MCG Pies v Demons

Sat twilight - Marvel/SCG Saints v Swans

Sat night - Brisbane v Port

The only change, perhaps requested by the home team, is the Sat night which Brisbane would prefer in the twilight (because of the weather advantage).

Can't we simply have a finals fixture already determined a year in advance? With Thursday and Sunday the elimination finals. This way there can be no hint of bias or interference from the Afl. Surely the minor premier gets the best time slot as well.

What's this lack of bias and interference you speak of?

This is the entertainment business we're in.

In your plan, both swansย  players and any Dees players concussed can meet 12 day break.ย  If Thursday for us, we risk a player out.

Your plan is ideal fro everyone. Good call.

It wouldn't be for Carlton and GWS but such is life.

Missed that. They too should be treated fairly.ย  My confidenec in the AFL behaviour in this is not high.

It's impossible to avoid this issue, 5 finals teams play today. The only way to change this situation is if the AFL ditches playing on Thursday, and schedules from Friday to Sunday.

Which is exactly what should happen. They scheduled 5 potential finals teams on a Sunday for round 24 to maximize viewership. Thatโ€™s on them.ย

Play 3 games on Saturday or one on Sunday. I donโ€™t care. You cannot possibly disadvantage a side with 11 days turnaround and have a 12 day concussion protocols.ย

If Port lose today, and we win, they would then have the concussion problem in the OP scenario.

Gee, this is fun.

(Off track, Warning: Be it 11, 12, 13 or 14 days, the extended vacuum will probably be puzzle time on here. I'm afraid I've got one in the wings...)
