Just a note about next week, does it matter if we lose to the Swans?  We're locked into the 4th spot, I'm just concerned if we win, but either Brisbane or Port lose, we'll be playing an interstate final first week.  Scenarios as they stand -

Scenario 1 - All 4 top 4 teams win, we play Collingwood at the G (same as if all 4 lose)

Scenario 2 - Collingwood lose, all others win, we finish 4th, but Brisbane finishes top, we go to Gabba.

Scenario 3 - Either one of Brisbane or Port lose, all other teams win, we finish 3rd, and play either Port or Brisbane interstate.

Scenario 4 - Collingwood and Port Adelaide lose, Melbourne and Brisbane win, Brisbane goes to top, Collingwood, 2nd, us 3rd, Port 4th, we play Collingwood at the G.

Scenario 5 - Melbourne wins, Brisbane and Port lose, we finish 2nd, irrespective of how Collingwood perform, and we host a home final to either Brisbane or Port.

Lucky for us our game is after all the other results are known, I can’t imagine we would loose deliberately if we were going to finish 3rd with a win and play lions or port but I could foresee us resting some players if we have a game with pies locked in

can not see how Port can lose to Richmond - who finished their season on Saturday; unless its on purpose. Same for the Pies, although the Dons may be so embarassed about last weekend that they decide to try this week. The Bombers did have Collingwood on toast in the Anzac game.

Saints could push Lions as they would get a home final if they win. Lions, would want to win so as to lock up first or second and avoid an away final in the first week against Port or the Pies. Therefore I think Lions will.

I really think this game on Sunday is a dead rubber for us. I will be going. So good to win yesterday as I can be relaxed and not embarassing my Sydney mate who is taking me to the SCG members. I think they are all Rugby Union playing AFL theatre goers who are used the umpires being called Sir and Ma'am. He hasn't invited me for about 8 years as he is still getting over the shame I caused him last time.

I think there's also scenario 6 which is all 3 teams above us win but we lose to Sydney. One good thing about the time of our game on Sunday is that we'll know by the time the game starts who we'll play if we win or if we lose. However, with Goodwin's philosophy we'll absolutely be trying for the win.

Well, I didn't use that one, because like if all teams win, and all teams lose, the status quo applies. No change.

I'm flying up on Sunday for it, it's my first SCG game.

Happy to win by 27 against my most hated club but thought we were just ok yesterday.

The win was pleasing given Petracca had a shocker, Oliver had his least impact for a long time and Kossie was hopeless.

I thought we lost centre clearance and that was a key source of goals for Hawthorn.

Tomlinson looks too slow and is a real worry in September. While Lever is better with another key defender, the defence looked at sea at times when the ball came in quickly.

Oliver looks like a player who lacks confidence and touch and is not looking to take territory. He is playing like he played five years ago, looking to handball and not bursting forward. We need him to get back to exploding forward in the stoppages.

Smith is a very good player and we can forget using him as the sub. He competes in the air and then is first to fight for it on the ground. I prefer him forward but he is great at being able to switch around and we might need him to go back if TMac earns his way into the side.

But disappointed to see Goodwin's comments about McGuinness. I mean that's the job of a tagger, to get under the skin of the player.

Who doesn't remember Simon Godfrey and how he annoyed the hell out of his opponents.

Maybe yze could work through with Clayton how to handle the tag

After all, this is Australia. If you can't niggle, jumper punch, harass and berate a player off the ball, what's the country coming to.   Australia rues rules football.  Sock it to 'em, Simon.

i liked it. i have never heard him pot someonbe like that. McGuinness had no objective to get the ball and hes pointing that out. hardly good for the game.

Micky Gayfer was policed out of the game aginst McAdam one day for just playing the man and they couldnt play him after that. This bloke needs to be highlighted.

Had no problems with McGuinness tagging that's not illegal I mean how many posters have called for Harmes to be in the side to do the same thing, what needs to be done is Oliver needs to learn how to handle it.

Don't worry about it we can beat the swans. I am confident we can beat anyone in the top 4. Just win and go with the flow.

You have to wonder if the reporters actually go to games in which  they give votes. In today's HUN he/she gave  Petracca  1 vote meaning he was the third best on ground. Oh please were you actually there? Or perhaps watched the last quarter on tv between visits to the bar.

They’re a lot to like about him. I see he’s up to 27 goals for the season now. Just for a comparison I had a look at Charlie Curnow’s numbers. Charlie scored 20 goals in 21 games in his second season and 34 in 20 in his third.
JVR has scored his 27 goals in 18 games this season.

He exudes this confidence that’s so exciting. Not cockiness or arrogance, but an aura of self-belief. When he’s up our end and there’s a stoppage up the other end, for example, he’s acutely switched on at all times. His body language and the way he carries himself is quite something else. He has an irrepressible kind of pride that as a fan you love to see.

So when one of our forwards cops what we think exceeds the usual level of pushing and shoving in the goal square, naturally we make our feelings known. It’s like a saturation of unhinged mums screaming in unison… “get off him!” But yesterday we discovered in an instant that JvR’s opponent didn’t need our ‘advice,’ JvR made short work of getting the message through, himself. ❤️💙

The best form is winning form. Beat the swans and go from there.

Might’ve been better off staying at the bar

Terrific game to be at unfortunately missed the pre- game Field of Women just arrived in time to see the first bounce. Beautiful sunny afternoon I mentioned to the family that there were a lot of hawks colours on the way in and commented that they can smell the blood in the water. They played some great footy in the first half and their zig zag game was working for them, then we tightened the screws and closed the gaps. Our back six lead by Rick and Steve were terrific, they do play better when Tomlinson is in the side. They were beating us at contested footy and they looked aggressive and cocky, their fans were at fever pitch. Tracc and Clarry were under the pump and Max wasn’t his usual dominant self. Up comes Riv, Rick , May, JV, Gus, Judd, Sparrow the wingers and ANB we shut them down and Milkshake, JVR and Smith played out of their skins. game Over, the Demon Army were magnificent the supporters around us were magnificent and every player contributed to a tough, smart win over a team that aren’t to shabby. How I love beating those tests.!!!

Shout out to Josh Jenkins, who picked the Hawks at half time on the big screen.

👋

Josh Jenkins hasn't had a kind word for Melbourne all year. Sucks to choose to be wrong so often like that.
