You were calling for Rivers ro be dropped only 3 weeks ago...

I said he was turning it over too often, and I reckon that was 6 weeks ago 😉

Did you see his game last week? You want to lose that drive from half back? When we score the majority of our points from turnover...

He is OVERATED as a Forward, and is starting to get Collision Injuries ! AND how he gets a starting 22 game over a rapidly imposing and improving JOEL SMITH is fantasyland stuff!

Petty is twice the footballer of Smith. Smith is a useful sub because his 4 possessions only take a quarter rather than 4

Petty has been banged up and injured didnt play for 6 weeks WAS underdone and still is so! At this stage Joel Smith has more upside than Petty END OF STORY

Might recall I was a bit hard on nibbler last season, but my criticism was more that his momentum killing was that he gut runs everywhere, created chances, gets on the end of it, but was butchering the ball when kicking for goal. I think he's been a lot better this season, Petracca is the same, they are doing so much running to create the play that when they get a chance to be the final link in the chain they are spent and can't convert.

Nibbler has kicked 13.4 this season @ 54.1% accuracy and goes at 55.1% by foot. Not too shabby.

Tracc, by way of comparison has kicked 20.13 @ 33% accuracy and goes at 55.4% by foot.

You're really gonna enjoy the hawks game.

Nibbler's 150th.

And remarkably, for a player we apparently need an upgrade on, his 70th of the last 72 games the dees have played, inclusive of 5 finals and a premiership medallion.

Quick quiz. Do you think any other dees player can match that record?

Hell, is there another player in the AFL who can match that record?

Impressive for a momentum killer.

Goody must be trolling you.

Methinks you might have to wait a while for your upgrade.

Yeah, you're right binman. He's hit peak form, having a great year.

So good below his knees for a small foward, great kick, always hits a target under pressure. That kick to Hunter in the dying moments of the Alice match was all class

If we were to trade for Liam Henry, and Chandler continues his improvment, there's the upgrade!

Have no doubt he'll play another bunch of afl games, just wanting better output from our most experienced small forward

Quick quiz. Which MFC small forward has only kicked 100 goals in 150 games?

Small forward?

Clueless.

182cm is more small than medium. May not be our smallest forward, certainly not a marking medium sized forward like Fritter

But good for you binman if your happy with his output

So Trac has had nearly twice as many shots on goal as Nibbler despite playing mostly in the midfield (until a couple of weeks ago)?

Maybe there's that upgrade once Clarry returns!

Could be sub in case Dusty goes off the rails?

I think Smith has to  stay as sub, he's too versatile and provides an explosive ejection. Not to mention has proven to provide immediate impact. I also think his athleticism could help if Dusty gets going.

Do people forget Dunstan’s disposal? He’s an A grade butcher. Just because he’s got the ball on a string in the VFL doesn’t mean he’ll translate to AFL. Harmes has been out of form but has much more to offer the team if he plays well.

look at his recent stats radar has done more than enough to be considered in my opinion

Dunstan masses stats on smaller VFL ground that I suggest have more stoppages and less open transitional play. He is AFL standard around the stoppage offensively and defensively. Unfortunately away from the stoppage he lacks the transitional movement to defend and when he gets ball in open play lacks effectiveness by foot. Harmes has him well covered generally but most importantly can fill multiple roles. Dunstan is purely a first dibs inside mid with no further flex.

Hunters kicking efficiency in the last eight weeks is 47.4%.

I said  SOME  - as demonstrated by your stat, which is meaningless unless in context.  Point taken but Hunter is a preferred last kick into the leading lanes to JVR BBB etc. as demonstared in past games.

The Casey ground is exact same size of the MCG...

Wait, there is a rugby game being played tomorrow at the MCG?

The ground is going to be so chopped up and slippery.

Wings will be ok though

need to keep our wingers wide and play through them

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
