Righting the wrongs of the post King's Birthday dropping of Tomlinson

Still don't mind Brown, but it's clear his body doesn't allow him to play four quarters

JVR & Petty is the pair to settle on for this season, no reason it can't work when you have Fritsch (hopefully), Trac, Pickett, Chandler surrounding them

That forward line sounds pretty good

You'd prefer the Short back and sides, dc?

Harmes and Petty the two in.

Can't believe Harmes is getting games.

I would have brought Hibberd in and assign Rivers to play a midfield role in place of Sparrow.

Hey Picket. is there anyone in our side that you actually like?

Yep he like Ben Brown

Harmes being added to the team is surely a pisstake 🙄

It’s a bit risky. Rivers has never done more than a few minute cameos playing midfield, let alone whole games as an inside mid.
With 5 rounds left and top 2 up for grabs, it’s definitely all about risk mitigation.

Petty better not get subded off again.    One week rest is enough for ribs? ?...strewth.

No Hibberd?  Is it just me or are their others worried about our forward make up.

Hope it works.

I think they needed Hibbo, with a proven track record against Martin

Could be sub in case Dusty goes off the rails?

I'll go out on a limb and suggest Grundy doesn't play for us again

Would be great if we can get 4 contested clunks and 2 goals from Petty as a forward.

Round 20 and we're still exploring our best forward line. In fairness Collingwood are too with Cox, Frampton and Johnson competing for 1 or 2 spots.

Doesn't help matters for Grundy when the minute he was dropped, Gawn started doing Gawn things again.

He's straight in the team if Gawn breaks down otherwise no cigar.

The Petty as a forward experiment is back on - apparently he is a way quicker learner than Grundy in the patterns forwards need to run.

Even though he's been injured much of the year, he continues to be rushed back in like he's the messiah - last time it was to show Cameron up down at Geelong, this time it is to show Vlastuin or Grimes or Balta how clever we are with our match-ups.

As someone who spent most of last year wanting to see Petty tried as a forward, I saw enough in his early games this season to confirm to me that he actually is a defender - he does not have the peripheral vision, nor the quickness in transition to make it up forward.

I am happy to have egg on my face on this one. But please everyone, watch and see what clever plays he makes when he marks or gathers the ball outside the 50m arc and decide for yourself whether he is suited to such link-up work. Unfortunately he is a defender. Love to have seen him get back into form via Casey.

I agree. Don't like him as a forward at all. At least not a leading, goal kicking forward like brown

That said, he could i wonder if he could take melks role as the defensive forward and say blanket vlastun - and if that works, players like weitering, Moore and Alir. He certainly has the defensive chops for the role.

And that would free melk up to play fritters role and be more a pure attacking forward.

Reckon he was probably one week extra at Casey away from playing.  Played well against the burgers but still looked a tad under done imv

Feel for Dunstan, on face value he seems the ideal replacement for Sparrow. He would get a game at West Coast.

The last game Petty was tried properly forward against Hawthorn when get got injured. 2 goals, 6 marks (2 contested) in 33% game time. With Tomlinson form and the lack of form from Brown surely people get this is worth another look?

Fair call.

And really, if BB isn't ready, what other options are there (I'm not including brody - he'll come back in but as a forward he makes Petty look like Tony Lockett).

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
