interesting - treating it like an interstate game; we're heading down there on wednesday, training on the ground that day, then staying in a hotel in geelong that evening

Very interesting.

Thought the players would prefer to sleep in their own beds the night before the game, given the venue is only 60 minutes down the highway.

I wonder what preparation approach we took in 2021 as that one worked.

Apparently we are also training with different dimensions of the field this week as well....

The hospital stay didn't help Oliver but he'll lose a lot more conditioning if he enters next week without a game in 5 weeks.

If he's good to go, he's good to go.

Is it correct that Geelong is the second oldest club in the AFL? If so, why aren't Geelong and Melbourne finding a way to create a blockbuster game built on that rivalry? If there's one thing we should have learned over the last 30 years, blockbusters don't just happen. They need two clubs to work together to build a reason for people to attend. ANZAC Day and ANZAC Day eve are good examples. The time to do so is now, while the teams are the two most recent Premiers and regularly in contention for finals over the last 5 years (admittedly, even longer for Geelong).

Founders Game played on Sunday at 4.40 at KP :)

Some stayed, some didn't.

From memory we've done this once before when Yze was playing. Result that time wasn't good though.

Ooze used to do it himself out of his own pocket I think.

Might be a good opportunity for the boys to get together post bye with a night away. Geelong isn’t far but I doubt it’s ideal preparation for someone like Gawn to drive 2+ hours on game day (Geelong is not an hour away if you don’t live in the western suburbs which most of our players don’t).
I know the guys from the peninsula way can catch the ferry across but it’s still a long journey. Every 1% helps!

Didn't we do this pre-186?

Working on those set shots.

We beat the Cats 3 times in 2021 but all three times were at different venues. MCG, KP and OS.

But all with Maxy doing his bit.

Believe Hawkins on special training this week perfecting accidental punches to face and guts.

The ‘preparation’ from what I recall was there was covid and no crowds - negated the home crowd advantage

Petty would be really rusty but would it be possible if cleared for him to play sub?

Or would he be better served with a full game in tge 2s?

And dont forget the wayward knees and elbows.

I hope the umpires call out his push in the backs

I thought getting an opposition ticket at kitty litterland was harder than winning tattslotto! How much did it cost, may I ask?

I know right?

Will cost me the price of petrol to drive my mate down!

Nut crushers were on the agenda as well, I heard. Got the idea from Cox.

Interesting. Forcing the player to kick straight instead of snapping around the corner. I like it.

Who doesn't like a morning snag!

I just finished watching the presser, and I could be wildly inaccurate here, but I think Goody has deliberately stayed quiet on the Oliver and Petty situation as a way to get a tactical edge on Scott. We all know Goody has lost tactical battles against him so I think he wants to keep him guessing as close to the game as possible.

Secondly, I think it’s a brilliant idea to train at GMHBA, no other Victorian teams do it and often the Cats will get a fast start when the opposition is still adjusting to the ground. We’ve been a good travelling side in the past so I think to treat this as an interstate game is really smart. Let’s hope it pays off!

Goody only mentioned four times in his presser that we didn't get a 14 day break so let's hope somebody at AFLHQ was watching.

Why do reporters ask the same dumbass questions every week. Q. How important is it that ...yada yada yada....

I hope our players go to the AFLPA and complain about this joke of a bye two years running. While at it, I also hope they complain about having to play in Geelong 😂

The inequity....doesn't astound me. 😢

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
