That was my initial reaction.

But McCrae pumps up their fans at every opportunity as he knows they consider themselves the '19th' man that will get them over the line.  It usually does.

If the players start chasing shadows (the chant, Grundy being valued, one-trick ponie etc) it will distract them from the game.  They have too many missing and underdone players (ill and returning with little match time) to indulge that luxury this year.

It’s fine to do crowd noise at training. But that point from the Pies fan is immediately where my head went - they do that chant in junk time - when they have already seen it up. If the game is on, they are too busy yelling abuse at the umpires or at Darcy Moore for being too woke.

Just do crowd noise.

And it may backfire, but if it has any impact - firstly, we won’t know, and, secondly, that is an indictment on the mentality of our players.

Favourite recent Pies game, 2018 GF, even if I got head butted and another mate got punched in the train on the way home!

it was okay though, we knew the guy and had given it to him for 5 hours after game finished! The best bit was telling him at lunch pre game after attending GF breakfast, Pies to lose with kick after siren as most desired result!

Favourite GF after Demons 2021 glory!!

Talk about over confident! With Oliver I’d be super confident, without I rkn it’s gonna be an epic struggle! But like fact we’re 💯 gonna try to take on their ball mvmt head-on as Chaplin iterated in podcast interview.

Gawn to kick 4 on Moore, Grundy to destroy Coxzilla, Dees by 8pts

I hate the Pies, but we’re currently their bunnies. Only thing I care about is finally beating them after years of embarrassment. Get it done Dees!

Embarrassment?

2022 rd 13 they beat us after we had no May, lost, Petty & Turner during the game and Gawn went down with a foot and knee in the guts from Cox. We were 24 pts up

2021 we lost by 17pts

2020 we won by 56 pts.

Hardly embarrassing

Being married to a Collingwood supporter I am not particularly looking forward to Monday. Should it end up being a Dees/ Pies GF I think my marriage might be doomed. My husband is a much nicer person than I am. I sulk for days after we lose but he just shrugs it off. He also goes to most of the Dees games with me so he really is one of the good guys.

It will however be a long walk home for him on Monday should we lose considering we live two hours away from town.

Obviously the Collingwood arrogance is ridiculous having won far fewer flags than us in the last 65 years but they are right about one thing.  I wish some dees supporters would stop  saying this is our "biggest ever" H& A game or this is our mid season  GF .  Its embarrassing. It does make us look-Pies quote- "like a minnow club"

We're not a minnow club so stop saying things that make us look like one.

Collingwood are going to pounce on the slightest weakness shown by any of  our players or club over the next 5 days.  Stop giggling and holding hands on social media ffs. It doesnt pay dividends.

I wouldnt be surprised in the slightest if they are planning a random wolf pack attack on a dees player in the first qtr possibly beyond that. Posters on DL  who admire McRae need a lobotomy.

Filth targets?   Fritsch  Oliver  Langdon maybe Salem.

Melbourne targets ????????

Given Melb and Coll hold the record for the biggest ever H&A game ever if this one eclipses it we will have the two biggest ever H&A games.

Reckon 84,546 will show.
There will be 15,000 Dee’s fans who won’t show because copping abuse from scum is not an enjoyable day out.

Absolutely slammed West Coast to win and shuey for the Norm Smith.

The pies lose yet another grand final in heart breaking circumstances.

And I make a motza.

It was a great Grand Final. What's greater is the number of scoring shots West Coast missed in that last quarter that Pies fans conveniently forget about when whining about the Rioli block on Maynard.

Cant get head around how to say that Lippa guys name its a real mouth full

Personally hope they do attempt to target JvR. I think the kid quite loves the physicality, it would fire him up and I’ve got all confidence he can handle himself and take it well. Only risk would be him giving away a free retaliating

You can.

Will help offset my losses.

But I do wish Goodwin had not mentioned Grundy now being at a club that valued him - just fodder to fire them up ala Langdon's comment last year.

How are they going to use it though? The Collingwood players know in their heart that it's true.

  • I don’t like Fritsch. Vanity and footballers don’t sit well together, especially when there’s this thing called ‘Maynard’ who has no regard for carefully coiffed hair.
  • Fritsch will be very nervous.
  • Fritsch doesn't have a garage or a wine cellar but here's a peek at his version of a man cave (Image of a barber's shop follows)
    • Not enough mirrors.

LOL 😂 I’m gonna send this to Pauline Frittata. She’ll think it’s hilarious. She won’t show Fritta of course since he wouldn’t find it funny at all. Pauline doesn’t read anything online about Bayley that comes from Dees fans, and I don’t blame her. But every so often I send her something from DL but only if it’s positive and/or funny. The above quotes are from Magpies fans which makes it even more interesting since the Fritschs used to be diehard Collingwood fans. 🤣

I don’t think she’d find too many bad things written about him from Melbourne fans. I reckon the worse I’ve read all season is that he is a bit lacking in form and his goal kicking accuracy is bad. All things I’m sure Fritta would agree with!

Still wise not to read things written about your son tho I think. I’d avoid all media as it’s all bad 😂

No. But that’s not cause for concern. There’s nothing being kept from us, guaranteed it’s not something bigger than what’s been reported. Let’s just say Clarrie of all players might need closer monitoring since he’s such a tough bugger that he mightn’t think he needs monitoring at all. He could have a toe severed and he wouldn’t report it to the Club. 😂

That’s this season, though.

Her aversion to online comments about Bayley from Dees fans stems from the whole Fritta is selfish/burns his teammates thing last year.

Actually Jaded, the last thing I showed her from DL was a post of yours.
It was when I posted about chatting to a bloke at Pauline’s 50th bday party and I asked him, “How do you know Paulsy?” He said, “Our kids play footy together.” I said, “Yeah? What’s your kid’s name?” He said, “Clayton.”
You replied along the lines of “Our kids play footy together??!! He says that like their kids play Auskick at 8am on Saturdays.” 😂 The Frittatas loved that.

This tiger has been tamed🤨

Quite taken aback.  No ranting and raving let alone showing vitriol.  Any criticisms of their own quite muted.

Incredibly nice to the Dees – I had to stop reading they were so gracious.  Yes, not a word I would normally use for Pies fans.  Maybe they got narky after the first two pages…

Some typical comment (stopped reading after the first two pages):

  • Full credit to the Dees, defensively they crushed us around the ground and played the game on their terms. Our smalls had no impact while May, Lever and Salem rejected the majority of our forward entries.  I think we, along with them are clearly the best 2 sides in it going into the bye. When we are back to full strength as are they, it'll be a hell of a final
  • Beaten up in the middle, and they had a plan to curtail our rebound which worked. They pressured the ball carrier and the players within the next 10m radius too.
  • Not sure how we tackle this next time but you can’t kick long either - maybe looks for more shorter wide exit kicks then run forward.  When we had our chances to get them on the counter attack we stuffed them up but regardless they should have been further in front. We don’t lose by much when we do but I wouldn’t hang out hat on it only being less than a goal today either.
  • This was a great game also against good oppo to work out how to optimise our lineup
  • Fight is still there which is the main thing. Some players showing their age. Hopefully reset after the bye.  We are the worst contested marking side in the comp....
  • Only Collingwood could lose in a way which increases our self-belief.  Melbourne played well.
  • Outplayed most of the day
  • Oh well. Can’t win them all. Dees were just that touch better. Gonna be a lot of fun if we face them in a final.
  • Dees were great today. Felt like a great coaching performance for Goodwin. I haven't really seen us play that poorly and out of sync in a while. Maybe it was the flu thing, a few guys carrying niggles, looking towards the bye? Whatever it was, I don't feel too concerned about the result.

This one made me laugh:

  • Checking flights for Europe in September as we speak.

I was expecting a full scale meltdown.  I was all set to see DL colourful descriptions of them in this thread.  Disappointed!

Somewhere, on DL I predicted a Dee vs Pies GF.  Still think that.

Believe it or not, we actually enjoy the fact we support opposition teams. I think life would be a bit boring in our world if we both supported the same team. It’s worked for us for 26 years now so we must be doing something right. I’m lucky he’s one of the good guys and not your typical drop kick Pies supporter. 😀

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
