Re McKay's kicking for goal .... For some reason I'm reminded of Travis Cloke kicking 7.0 against us years ago.

Don’t forget Daniher kicking a heap without missing when Essendrug were putrid.
McKay will kick and min 4 vs us.

Someone reported in another thread (@Redleg maybe) that he has noticed players second guessing themselves when tackling/contesting because of the confusion around Tribunal decisions eg JvR and Hunter appeals.

That would certainly affect our pressure and potentially cause doubt in players' minds on other aspects of play.  Would also help explain why Port and Fremantle seemed to by-pass or easily break tackles.

I wonder how we have rated on the pressure and contest scales in the last few weeks.

On the Magnet Balls interview, Viney talked about the changing approach to tackling and the need to ensure juniors are being taught appropriately since at the end of the day, it's a split second decision and it's easy to revert to what you were taught growing up in terms of tackling.  He doesn't quite call it a confusion but it's evident that behind the scenes there's a lot of discussion about tackling atm.  (See @Rab D Nesbitt's thread for the interview)

Doesn't help that MFC players, even at VFL level, are guaranteed to get done for tackling!  No wonder the boys are so tentative... good observation from Redleg

Edit: maybe this is why Kozzy was BOG in round 1 - early on he knew he would get done for that bump, and so the worst was likely to happen and it freed him up to take on the game without worrying?

I know a win is a win, but if we are fair dinkum serious this year it just has to be a 5+ goal victory Friday Night.

Trac in his interview on 360 mentioned this in so many words. How tackling was being coached by choco and that maybe players need to guide the tacklee* to fall on the tackler.  Fwiw, he also mentioned that their efficiency going inside 50 was rubbish on the weekend, particularly himself.  I really like Trac, he's honest with himself.

I've gone from extremely disappointed to feeling the old comfort of going to the footy next week with zero expectations of being able to win.

We hear ya, fellah. Been there, done that. 😭

  • I think I’ll make other plans Friday. Can’t imagine watching another soulless performance is a good use of time.
    • Come & join me for a shopping spree at Chadstone 😂
    • Chadstone... omg that could be just as bad as going to the footy! I only shop at the Paris end.
    • Go clothes shopping with the significant other. You'll be back watching footy faster than a politician breaks an election promise.
    • …maybe I could spend the time finding a significant other?

This convo gets sadder and sadder as it goes on. 🤣

  • What will happen is some lesser-light will suddenly have a burst of good play that kills us and the game, then this same person will disappear for the next several weeks.
    • Just say Melksham when you mean Melksham.
    • I can't disagree with you eg Melksham beat three Carlton defenders to win the game for them in the last 30 seconds last year ...that was a real kick in the hurtful places.

LOL. They rate Melksy more than our fans do. Not LOL

What they are saying in Demonland:

• this is the week Harry kicks straight isn’t it.

feels like this is one of the most negatively built up games from both supporter bases.

So ultimately, both supporter bases are feeling pretty negative about their own sides' expected performances.  Could be an interesting night!!

Oh!! The anxiety about getting out to a 20 point lead!!

Carlton are in bad form, but they are not a bad team.

They have two very good forwards and a solid midfield.

Their injuries are significant, but we are also missing Oliver and Petty, who are two key players.

I would be happy with 4 points that we desperately need.

Lose on Friday and we might find ourselves in a 5 game losing streak, as it doesn't get any easier now.

They rate him only for cameos!

The Kruezer cup taught us both everything in the world of pessimism!

It’s still more than some of our fans will give him.

And for the clearance purists, they have a midfield that can beat us in that area if we aren't careful.

"Tacklee" is now firmly planted in my Oxford dictionary.

If we think the situation with us is "bad" because of uncertainty or the change in interpretation which is leading to "the boys being tentative", wouldn't it be the same for every other club? At least we are apparently doing something about it. Are the other clubs?

Some get exemptions...didnt ya know ;)

Getting tired of my Carlton supporting colleagues saying we'll beat them by 10 goals.

They'll be the same people on Monday morning proclaiming that their boys are back and that it was a Carlton win for the ages (if we lose)

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
