The Casey Demons hit the road again this weekend with another trip to the Gold Coast where they meet the team they beat in last year’s VFL Grand Final.IMG_3520.thumb.jpeg.728fed29ffe01d789f5a3a848b11179e.jpeg

Another defeat most likely, until Munro returns to create the right heartbeat for the team….been lacking since his injury.

Optimism not exactly flowing on here at the moment. Southport have had an easier draw than Casey. Notwithstanding some listed names missing, I'm hoping for a lift from some very modest individual performances and a win.

IN Freeman Galvin Harmes Jordon Neocleous Shepherd

OUT Gregory McRae Melksham Peters J Smith Tomlinson

Not great signs for JJ or Harmesy being dropped again.

Miles Shepherd has again shown his improvement and versatility and good to see him back.

Interested to see how young Rhys Galvin goes this week.  Solidly built defender with excellent long left foot kick.  It’s a big step up for many 19 year old youngsters after the NAB Cup.

Is the man mountain ruck they had last year playing for Southport this year?

Could be a decent game especially for the Fringe 6

Jefferson already looks so much better without a clunky forward line of bigs.

Is never going to look great when we have Brown, Tmac, Smith, Schache and Melksham in there as well as him.

looks a much better mix for him to develop without all those guys taking up space.

Brayden Crossley is his name. Used to play for Gold Coast and got sacked with a 12 month ban from footy for testing positive to cocaine in his system after a NEAFL match in 2019.

Goober

Saw Bill Laurie next to Sparrow in training video's the club posted, looks the same height but with much bigger lower body than Sparrow. This kid is 100% a mid so it's no wonder he didn't look great as a small forward at AFL level.

Best bit of the quarter was when the BT of Southport was turned off for a few minutes.

Hope Benny can kick a few today.

Woewodin looking good but the commentator will not shut up about him.

Turner looks a cut above; once he is AFL size he is our next tall defender.

From previous games, I like young Jefferson but it will be tough for him to show his wares with so many other Dees listed players in the Casey forward line. One to watch.

We are getting soundly beaten at stoppage and ground ball.

Casey just continuously bomb the ball in the forward line because no one leads just like Melbourne do. Yuck!

Jeffo has already looked much better today because Tmac Melksham and Smith aren’t there. Long may it continue

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
