I think he’s learning on the job. Got some good operators around him and he may still chat with Roos from time to time. I wasn’t a huge fan until the last 6-8 weeks. Thought he was too one dimensional but this year has really changed my thinking.

Are you being serious.

You weren't a fan till the last 6-8 weeks?

Goody won a bloody flag two seasons back!

When did you start supporting the dees? 2022?

Hahaha, sure but they stuffed up last year and plan B was never his strength. With the list we have Prelims are as low as I’m prepared to go. I didn’t sit through 50 years of garbage to watch us waste a generational list. I reckon Choco had a big part of 21

C'mon. Choco?

Wotcha talking about Willis?

Our most successful coach since norm smith for pete sake.

The last time we finished top 4 in three consecutive years was 1958-60.

He stuffed up last year?

Waste a generational list?

I would have thought as a long time dees fans you'd appreciate how hard it is to win a flag.

We have one. And are likely contenders for several mote years.

All under goody.

Seriously, he deserves more respect.

Our run home is looking harder by the day with the Hawks thrashing the Pies, the Blues in top form and Swans not giving up on a finals spot.

Finish second and we'll have done exceptionally well.

You want solid competition going into finals. All are winnable games if we take the right attitude.

The Blues win over Collingwood was good but there is clearly some fitness questions hovering over them atm - we will see their true form v Saints tomorrow.

He’s slowly getting my respect. If we only win one Flag with this list he’ll lose it fast

If Sydney hold on to beat GWS, they will near-certainly be playing for a finals spot in Round 24 (even if they lose to Adelaide in Round 23).

That game is going to be brutal, I suspect.

Our run home isn't as easy as some would think - Hawthorn have the same number of wins against the top 4 as every single other member of the top 4, Carlton's won 6 straight and is playing top 4 quality football, and Sydney are peaking at the right time.

Meanwhile Port is a goal up on Geelong - likely end Geelong's season but reminds us that we are still favourites to finish 4th, not 2nd (and not 1st either).

I really, really, don't like this argument - when we do well it's Choco (or Yze, or whoever) but when we do poorly it's Goodwin's fault.

Goodwin's win-loss record is comparable to the best modern day coaches. He's taken a club that had struggled for decades and has produced 6 winning seasons out of 7, including 3 (and soon to be 4) finals appearances, at least 2 prelims, and a premiership.

3 weeks ago, second place seemed out of reach. Now it’s very much in play. Jeez this feels a lot like 2021 with everything starting to fall in place at the right time.

Stoked to be at Blundstone tomorrow now. There’s a lot at stake!

If we finish second we’re guaranteed not to travel at all in the finals. Even if we lose week 1.

Assuming Collingwood finish first.

No. If we lose a Qualifying and Collingwood lose the other Qualifying then we would still need to travel for the Prelim.

Can’t take the run home for granted now.

As we saw today, even the most lowly of clubs is capable of causing an upset and they all would love to take a big scalp.

North may have a pick 1, 2 combo in their minds after watching an improved Eagles performance. A wooden spoon strengthens their compensation bid. Call me a pessimist.

You'll see the Dees move to second spot live tomorrow. On % from Lions.

Enjoy.

Then its ours to lose.

I reckon top spot is on too. Macrae looked lost for words in his presser today.

I knew sides would start to seriously tag Daicos in the back end of the year, and that Collingwood are all or nothing, without nuance to their game, or a plan B.

Blue print continues to be clog them up at half back, choke them in the corridor and they have few answers.

Pressure is not their friend. They are 13th for contested possessions. Adams and De Goey with only 7 clearances between them. Easy to tag Daicos when nobody is feeding the ball to him. 18-3 centre clearances the Hawks way.
26-19 stoppage clearances when we played them (minus Clarry). 28-19 stoppage clearances when they played Carlton last week.

Watching Goody today at training I can say with confidence, that you have no clue.

Happy to be clueless in your mind. Ask yourself if this time last year as we played injured players and continued to kick it into the pockets if Goodwin was everything you hoped for.

You're definitely an odd poster mate.

It's like you've stepped out of a cave in the last 10-15 weeks and realised we're a really good team, with a really good coach, but before that we fluked a flag and then somehow managed to finish 2nd last year.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
