Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Really?

Best 22’s are never entirely settled and we bought in Bowser only weeks from finals in 2021 for instance.

Because we lost Hunt to injury.

This is an entirely different issue.

We’re paying for the list decisions made in order to win the flag and the list inaction the last 2 years.

Tomlinson was a panic job post 2019 to get a wing. BBB a desperation move to win a flag, it worked, but it really hurts now! Recontracting T Mc. Trading up in the mess of the 2020 draft and taking Laurie now seems a costly mistake!

We traded up to get Holmes but Geelong then took the Tiges pick in front of ours

The thing is, let's say one area of the ground goes through the roof in the second half of the year, we win the flag, and the players all credit it with that assistant etc etc.

You're saying, nup, I have an arbitrary 3-5 year rule that assistants must move on, sorry, I know you helped us win two flags in three years and there was a second place finish in there too, but it's off you pop.

You can't be making those sorts of decisions at this stage. Let's give it a month and if nothing has changed, by all means, let's consider these sorts of decisions then.

Recontracting of assistants is done by August I believe so you might actually have to make calls on moving anyone on  sooner rather than later. Not saying we should be doing that though.

Otherwise unless there’s some drastic mid season game plan or personnel shifts that completely change the side I’d say any improvements were down to sustained excellence over years and the players, not short term decisions.

If Yze and Chaplin are going to be senior coaches they need to know more than one area of the ground. If they can’t be flexible they won’t make it in the top jobs.

I suspect so too but the result is the same. A gamble of early trades that have been successful but can’t always work.

Yes, but Bowser stayed in once Hunt was healthy.

I suspect McVee comes under pressure purely as Gus might have to go back if they stick with Hunter. And I think Chandler is now under the pump.

Otherwise is there doubt on this side being our first picked?

FB: Hibberd May Bowey?
HB: Rivers Lever Salem
C; Langdon Petracca Hunter
HF: Spargo Petty ANB
FF: Pickett JVR Fritsch
Foll: Gawn Oliver Viney
Int: Grundy Sparrow Gus
Q?: McVee, Chandler, JJ?

This year should be a strong draft for us and if we can come up with a smart trade or 2 we’ll be back in the game. We need some run and some forward power.

Are you suggesting that Yze and Chaplin stay but take different areas of the ground?

We're also still in the game...

We're top 4 FFS at Round 11 with the best percentage in the league. Anyone would think we're on the cusp of the 8.

Correct. Yze played all 3 areas as a player, he can surely offer up new ideas.

Similarly if Chappy can do such great work with our key backs he must have tips for our key forwards. And I think our backline needs a rev up to play with more run and attack

Plus with the cap rising I’d really like to add someone from a different club who can bring new ideas and shed light on tactics to beat us.

Something more than last years change of Mark Williams taking on goal kicking.

I’m a firm believer that it’s really the coaching team not the head coach that dictates success.

Hardwick was seen my many as a horrible coach until Balme and Gale brought in an A+ assistant coach team.

Goodwin was a struggling junior coach until we brought in a good team around him.

I honestly doubt Fly would be the coach he is if Collingwood had not given him a swag of A grade assistant coaches.

Didn't take a minute to realise this post is laughable. Stupid. Geelong lost again. Sack Scott.

Well Scott has them playing finals and top 4 year in year out. The way things are looking today we may struggle to make the 8. If this becomes another wasted year... How are we going to feel about the whole thing?

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
