It’s been 24 hours, so just for a laugh go and watch the last 2 minutes on the AFL site.

The final throw in literally goes 15 metres away from Melbournes goal. It has to be the worst throw in in AFL history. All the players stopped assuming it would be recalled. It’s nuts how bad it is.

Didn’t affect outcome. Just seemed highly unusual.

After round 10 last season, Geelong were 6-4, hardly an impressive record. We're 7-3, lost by 4 points to a team who is hot atm. I'd rather us have things to improve on this early in the season then be 10-0. I still think we're one of the contenders. If we go out in straight sets again then yes it's a fail, from now till then everyone needs to take a hashish and calm down a little. This website turns into an Anti Trump forum when we lose a game.

"Straight sets"

We're no way near guaranteed to make top 4 yet pal.

Missing out on top 4 spot in itself will be a fail.

This sums up the state of poor umpiring (four umpires is a disaster) and a wildly inconsistent MRO perfectly.

It’s absolutely absurd that it can be awarded against us on the night and then the MRP ban him post match.

To put it bluntly the tribunal/MRO and the umpiring in what is supposed to be a professionaly run organisation is [censored]

I remember you saying how bad we were in a 2021 preseason match, I also recall you asking for Yzes head at half time this weekend. Yet when we're good, you're the first to put up a post about it. Absolute downie pal.

At current form we'd be hanging onto 4th by the skin of our teeth.

We cant play wet weather footy to save our life at present..  I mean what Einstein kicks out longish to a contest in blustery belting rain ?  That defines stupidity right there.

We seem to have a one size fits all game plan. One thats been disected and rejigged by others to better effect.  I was encouraged by the preseason footy where we mixed it up....and now we hardly do.

We've coyly slunk back to the footy we know..... problem being everyone else does too.

If you offered me 4th now...I'd take it.

Yes i am in the belief that Yze needs to come under pressure for our poor clearence work and inability to connect between our elite ruck duo and elite midfield set up. The 2nd quarter slaughtering in clearences was simply unacceptable and pathetic.

I made comparison that Greg Stafford copped it bad last year on here for the way we entered our forward entries. The same pressure should apply to Yze because right now we've got one of the best midfield combination this club has ever seen and we're potentially blowing our chances if he doesn't rectify the deficiencies that's costing us.

First to say when we're good? Now you're making things up. I've been calmly reserved with all our wins except against Sydney where I thought we just smashed a genuine top 4 contender and celebrated hard. Realistically they're just a bottom 6 club now.

We've beaten easy beats and that's it. I got well and truly sucked in last year. Get back to me when we beat Collingwood, Brisbane and Port Adelaide again and prove that we're just not flat track bullies.

Sorry am I denying this am I? Did it go completely over your head over my reasons in my explanation of the way our midfield is getting exposed by the better sides.

They looking a million dollars beating the Hawthorn's and North's of the world but when it come to the pressure cooker against the top quality sides that we've seen so far this year and even going back to last year they've been found out big out.

We brought in a A grade ruckman in the off season and we still can barely get that connection right.

I thought that the Grundy and Gawn combo was going to directly increase our goal tally. It did in the praccy games. But the average goals for the 2 combined is currently at only one and a half per game.

I think we roll the dice with Bbb instead of Tmac.

I watched The Round So Far on the AFL site. It’s always got some really meaningful analysis and vision, and it’s quick so they don’t drag it out with ladsy BS.

Friday night was our lowest mark count under Goodwin by some measure, and the other low marking games were 2018-19. So that looks to me like we couldn’t win the ball back in the air, and then control. You can’t control it if you don’t win it back, so that makes sense. So we clearly didn’t create anywhere near enough pressure on the ball carriers and at clearance to create rushed kicks that we could win back. Turnovers are clearly the new backbone of our game plan.

I’d imagine it’s a nervous week for our Half Forwards and second tier Mids. They didn’t bring anywhere near enough defensive intensity. If they do we win.

Agree, a few improvements can make a big difference. At least the FD are trying new things.

If one of BBB, TMac, Joel Smith or Schache can step up and hold down a key forward position will make a big difference to our game!

The odd rest for the likes of chandler, ANB, Sparrow, Spargo, McVee and roll someone else in doesn’t hurt them, provides opportunities for the guys pushing up in the VFL.

Oliver twangs hamstring late in the 3rd, fully fit maybe he makes the difference.

Round 10 Pies and Lions look best, but a long way to go!

Just watched the Goodwin post match press conference.

Was asked about Butters.

Goodwin responds “there was plenty of discussions, we just decided to back ourselves”

Result is they did nothing. Too stubborn for my liking. If they tagged one of Butters or JHF something might have helped.

Stop picking your favourites and going off past history’s performances.

Drop the underperforming and reward the next in line.

What I hated the most as I sat screaming at the TV for the clear around the neck the commentators are lauding the tackle, even on replay? Mind boggling how these clowns get a gig.

Brisbane game was on a cricket pitch and in slippery conditions. Essendon and Port games were in the pouring rain at Adelaide oval. Our next 3 games are at the MCG (where we haven’t lost yet). If we win all 3 we’re the real deal.

Yep...we cant play wet footy for [censored]...

Our efforts to kick in etc in the pouring rain...the manner, the setup....is Im sorry laughable.....any  2nd tier suburban coach will know NOT TO DO ANY OF THAT.

Common sense suggests to adjust for the weather....we just go out in the same shorts and shirt expecting it to work.

Bodes well going into winter....you know....when it rains and blows a bit.....

Big if at the moment though. A resurgent freo next week is suddenly a lot tougher than it looked 2 weeks ago. They have a strong midfield and their forward setup is functioning much better. I haven’t been impressed with Carlton. I expect to win that game.

As for the big one against the pies if I had to put my house on it, I’d back the pies. Hate saying that. Their all round game is in much better shape. Unless a number of our underperformers lift I can’t see us winning that game.

we have the cattle to win all those games but our form needs to improve otherwise I don’t see it happening.

agreed and so many vital incorrect decisions that lead to Port goals. I don't think we played poorly. and the rain evens things up.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
