Newish jargon of a ‘cooler’, sounds naff.  Question for those hipster football analysts, what’s the difference between a ‘tagger’?

Harmesy will be good for depth - the game moves on quickly eh…

Thoughts on the term "inside slider" mate? 😄

I'm a Harmes fan, but he looked too heavy in the games I saw him play this year. Maybe he we asked him to bulk up to play more of an inside role, but I thought it affected his running ability and presumably gave him less time to get his disposals away.

As others have said, our midfield depth becomes non-existent if Harmes goes. I'd prefer him to stay, lose a few kgs, and get back to doing what he does best.

(And Laurie is not AFL standard, let alone capable of playing midfield at AFL level. Woewodin may get there, but has a fair bit of work to do.)

Harmes is looking as he doesn't what to finish his career sitting at Casey.  You respect that, he thinks he might get more opportunity elsewhere we shake hands and get something for him.  Unfortunately he is worth a third round pick, for the club we need to either use him to get other deals done or advance our picks

That's always been Harmsy's problem though.  The gap between his best and his worst is huge. Both in game and in season. Just on ability alone there's not much he can't do. He can take a hanger, can pass lace out to a lead, can explode from a stoppage, can kick goals.  On ability he's pretty much got it all.

But then he'll also handball to a team mate's feet, miss a target by a mile,  go missing for large parts of a game, get caught with the ball etc etc

For me he's been the most frustrating player due to his output not matching his capacity.

If he leaves I'll wish him well. If he stays I'll also wish him well and hope he has a year where he consistently delivers at the high end of his capabilities.

No matter what, he's a Demon premiership hero and I'll never forget that pass to Fritta.

Well summarised GTB.  Couldn't agree more.

This year in particular he has been right off the boil, which has been really disappointing, because we know what he's capable of.  I know it's been reported he's had some personal issues that may have played their part in that and I'm quite respectful that they are just that and his own private business.

Often players are able to level out the inconsistencies as they mature and I'd be hopeful Harmesy can do that in what remains of his career whether that's with us or someone else.

Holy hell that’s euphemistic! What’s the definition of an inside slider (in a football context, rather than urban dictionary)?

The extra that would slide up to make a +1 at stoppage, usually off the back of stoppage.

A melbourne supporter who fulfilled our dream!

Now that JJ has picked Sydney, does that leave room for Harmes to lose a bit of weight, get some speed back and play some cameo roles in the midfield for 2024

or

have I missed some and he had said he wants to leave and nominated North or someone.    Does any know ?

There hasn't been any news on Harmesy, i suspect he will be in the red and blue next year.

From a Fox Sports article 11 days ago.

According to Nine journalist Sam McClure, Richmond, Carlton, Sydney and Essendon are all circling Harmes.

Fair to assume Sydney are no longer interested given they've getting Jordon. But there's been nothing reported to suggest none of the other three aren't interested.

I expect Yze to bring him across to play a role alternating with Dusty between mid and forward.

Firstly Harmes is a good player in certain situations tagging mostly.
But he tries to do too often the Fusty send off and gets caught trying snd doesn't learn.

I have no doubt Harmesy thinks he had been hardly done but needs to get over that.

Sort of agree with you re depth he's handy to have but his set shot goal kicking has tapered off also.

Don't agree with you re Laurie. Small sample but looked good as sub vs Swans snd Hawks. But not so in the QUAL final when he came in early.

Think he has a year to run on his contract ( not sure) but feel if he could play as per sub form he would be a very good AFL player clever poised and team oriented plus good disposal.

Whst does Woew need to do other than get more experience ? Games into him is the key. Looked good.

Laurie will stay unless someone comes with a good offer, as we are probably turning over too many this year.

If he is not a regular next year I would imagine he will look elsewhere.

Some bloke on Richmond's bigfooty page reckons they're getting Harmes, for whatever that's worth...

Feel like he had one season (‘18 from memory) where he was deployed as a tagger. That was 5 years ago.

Richmond are definitely getting Lynch

Heard a rumour that he was off to Geelong, don’t know how much truth is in the rumour 🤷🏻‍♂️

Does he want to be a farmer?

A stupid saying BT made up and only one to use it. He uses it when a player kicks a 'banana' 'snap' that doesn't curve that much from what I've gathered, from the football context, he needs his own dictionary 🥜

Did the job on Libba and had probably his best game for ages

Not at all true. Played as a tagger plenty of times. Read Gawns captains diary if you need to confirm.

Sometimes I wonder if posters even watch the footy.

Tell me two games since 2018 he played the majority of the match in a tagging role?

That's because you're right, he hasn't.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
