Feel like May has looked hindered this season, particularly bending to pickup a ground ball. Might be time for a rest this week?

No Lewis is too good.

May will be needed  Petty also possibly.

Was told that Harmes was sick today, don’t know severity, may impact selection?

I also think the oppo's are really doing well to curb May's influence... Our defensive setup behind the ball has been our 1-wood for a few years now and so its not unexpected that our opponents go to school on us. I do wander how we will fair if Petty eventually goes back behind the ball.

Thanks Kev

Was JVR there in good spirits, or was he nursing a severely injured bicep with which he tried to murder that GW$ guy??

Do you mean the GWS guy that was playing for the Suns?

Yes, looked like a brainstorming session of more than 5 minutes, and Petty was into it. I'd say Petty is working out of the backline, or at least the swing man.

All the "Petty has to go back to defence" landers go...

K.Turner and Verrall, have been increasing their work load, Kyle more so than Verrall.

I have forgotten - why did we recruit Verrall? How big is he? Thanks

A few of us from the Demon Army bumped into Sparrow and his mum and gf at a kebab place after the game.  Maybe the team ate some troublesome street meat?!

Chaplin said Rivers was sick prior to the game, could be some sort of bug running through the club at the moment.

Played well for being unwell. Measure of a pretty good player.

Will showed a bit in the pre season games and I was very keen to see him in Casey colours. Shame he has had an interrupted season as he looks quite promising.

Ruck and possibly even develop as a key forward is his chance. Can take a mark, looks pretty mobile and he is a decent size for his age.

Where did you find the training info? Or did you just show up knowing they train the same time roughly each week?

I'm looking to go Wednesday morning at Gosch's but the club website is showing April 23 as the last advertised session. Any tips on what time I should show up?

Yes, just guess work.

They have been having their main run out at Casey, usually at 9.30 am, 3 days before the game day (Wednesday this week).

The next one at Gosch's is the captain's run, the day before the game also at 9.30 am (Friday this week).

They have a recovery run on Gosch's, usually Monday at 11.30 am.

If last year was any indication, it's a hard no from me.

Should play 2 to 3 Casey games and then come into the seniors.

I would say 2 or 3 Casey games and see how he goes.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
