The mood is gloomy resignation.  Not dissimilar to the Ess mood a few weeks ago.

From Bigfooty.

  • * me, can we just forfeit? This could genuinely be 100+. Play all the kids, anyone over 28 except Ziebell can be dropped. Looks like we'll be running out there with about 5 players but at least they should all be AFL quality.
    • lol does it really matter? We’re gonna get done by 100+ no matter whos in
  • BBB will come back from injury and kick 9
  • At least if we bring in some youth and inexperience they bring some fight
    • We’re about to get smashed by well over ten goals, no point debuting anyone..
  • As a north supporter I feel like pain is our middle nameFritz will have an absolute field day.
  • Lever and May to combine for 20 intercept marks
    • Whatever the record is, they’ll beat it.
    • That’s just the first quarter right?
  • feel like it’s as good a time to get the dees…Off a short break, tough close game against tigers should have them sore
    • Sounds logical... Dees by 60.
  • Frisky had a quiet game tonight - red alert in our back 6
  • It’s going to be a blood bath
    • Really? I don't think we will win by that much but I will take your word for it.
  • We were neck and neck with them until time-on in Q3 and lost by 48 points last year. Despite everything, I refuse to believe we’re worse than we were back then.
  • If Dees don't turn up we lose by 60+, if they do turn up 100+

My Favourites:

  • McKay to full forward. If he is going to be a statue be a statue in our goal square so it frees up Larkey
  • This Tarryn Thomas fella looks a player. Seems a class bloke too. Reward his effort with a stint in the ones I think
    • He can't play right now. He needs to finish his homework.

Footnote:  each sub indented comment is a response to the point immediately above it.

Always wary of a Clarkson coached team and Cunnington always plays well against us.  Dees by 3-6 goals.. just to keep our % ticking over nicely.

Yes, there are a few notable comments.

At least they have mostly kept their sense of humour through the gloom.

I think it is finding those gems that keeps me doing these threads - waded through 10 pages of bigfooty to find enough of interest for an opening post...

I can remember myself and others dealing with our own dark years by substituting our own woe and nausea with similar humour.

You just have to.

That is why I am wary.

But couldn't possibly tip against us but to be on the safe side I'm just tipping a modest margin.

Seems to me many an opposition seem to.

This game is as much between the ears as it is ability.

I'm not convinced we're quite there mentally.

We should be a 10-15 goal better team than this lot. Have no doubt Clarko will spring a trap.

We need to snuff out their exuberance very early or it's another dog's breakfast.

It's a dirty job but somebody's gotta do it. DL is very grateful Luci.

Rooh's emergence changes the whole team's mood & mindset and offers much incentive as the backs/mids now know they have a genuine target who can clunk marks and kick straight.

Might not happen overnight against the top line clubs but i wouldn't want to be on the other side as a bottom 4 - 6 club as our new forward set up begins to settle, emerge and stabilise.

I'm just glad this isn't being played in TAS. Love tassie, but not for playing Norf. Windy suburban ovals are a leveller.

They have an extra day recovery and so will have a game plan that tries to maximize this advantage. If they start anything like West Coast and get a sniff, itll be a worrying sign.

Team will feel disappointed not to give one of their greats in Goldstein a memorable 300 milestone so expect a response.

I hope we pull our finger out and pants them 8-1 goals in the opening quarter and then contain the game from there. If it is left to the last quarter id say we are a 50-50 chance.

I believe we will win but make hard work of it. 5 goals, we don't often have have big scoring wins. We often do enough to win and that is it.

Despite what most of the idiots in the media say, Norf are not as bad as some make out. Me mate is Norf and I watch them most weeks. There's talent on the list and Clarko will harness it - let it not be this week though.

They are definitely not as bad as they were. They have a decent list and they’re playing with purpose. Like any inexperienced team they’ll be prone to blow outs, but they’ll also challenge sides. They have a good forwardline and a decent midfield. If we walk into the G expecting a win we will end up with the same result as the Essendon game.

True, when was the last time we played them at the G though? Seems to always be Docklands or Tassie. Docklands feels like a basketball game half the time the G is a bit different for a younger team.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. Firstly the bad news - McVee went down late, which does look like a bad hammy - towards the end of match sim, as he kicked the ball. Had to

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
