Rehab: Chandler, left knee heavily bandaged, Verral, k.Turner.

Light duties: Fritta, McVee, Hibbo.

Salem out early being put through his paces, joined the main group for drills.

40 players in the main group, including Salem, J.Smith, plenty of noise, fun and some competitive warm-ups and drills.

They finished up with organised goal kicking.

Salem and Spargo still running after the squad left.

Chandler finished his short session with a moderate speed, jog of the oval.

Lovely movement and skills, full training.

It should be noted that Spargo joined full training at last Sunday's Captain's Run but left the field near then end when they were doing drills that had a little more contact. Just because he was training doesn't necessarily mean he is fully out of concussion protocols.

Standard protocol is 12 days right?

Tomorrow is 12 days since the Essendon game. Presumably if he was still not feeling 100% he wouldn't be allowed to train even a little bit. The fact that he is training fully on day 11, means he must be pretty close.

I was surprised he was allowed to train let alone be at the club on Sunday for the Captain's Run.

Is the 12 days related to playing or also training?

Maybe it's just about non contact. So he can train, but can't do contact training until tomorrow?

Captains Run is not exactly high intensity.

Goody did rule Spargs out for the game against the Roos in the post match presser on Monday night. I'd expect Spargs to be travelling to sunny QLD for a game next week (no intel, just a hunch).

Goody said he was still experiencing symptoms so wouldn't be considered this week.

Good to hear Salo's progress

I’m not sure the AFL’s elite concussion protocols are available but you’d think they’d match pretty closely to the community ones.

It’s pretty much rest for 1-2 days, light exercise, rest, skill session, rest, non contact team drills, rest, full training.

Even if he had a few days of symptoms early last week he could’ve progressed to a skills session by Sunday.

Goodwin said Salem was a month away. Glad they are going to take their time with him. Need him for the back half of the season.

The post match conference cuts out at 3:50 so I didn't hear him say that.

Very strange he is training. Maybe he felt much better today?

He missed the first half of last season too - shame because at his best probably our best ball user from HB

That’s the worry. He has missed a lot of footy, both high intensity training and matches. We need him back but we need him back all guns blazing and playing 4Q of footy. Half fit or limited game time is not what the team needs. I would rather go with a fully fit alternative defender like a Turner than a player not 100 percent ready.

He said it on last night.

So Salem is in full training but Goodwin says he's 4 - 5 weeks away, what am I missing? I'd so love a fit Salem at HB for the last 10 weeks of the season

I had the same problem, try this:

How intense was the session @kev martin?

Good intensity, much more than the usual stretch it out runs. The drills were compact, with 4 stations, and then they all joined together for kick and run through before the goal kicking.

Best thing was the joy.

Lasted about 50 minutes

No contact, nor anything close to sims.

Has his own warm-up program and the drills didn't have contact or anything close to 70% effort.

Loved that he is starting to run harder, is doing the resistance and change of direction work.

One would expect maybe 2 x ½ to ¾ games at Casey plus 2 full games before Salo gets a senior game.  That would give him still enough time to be ready for September action.

Spargo stayed firmly on the ground.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
