Positives from today

Recommended Posts

It was a good effort from a team ravaged like no other club in history. The players really tried hard today and when you look at some of our young players the future does look bright. Bell and Carroll have something in common - they had to be knocked out 2 or three times in a row in order to come good at AFL. I think Bell is getting better each week.

Bate showed what a good player he will be.

Pettard should get a rising star before long.

Jones is a real in and under and has a lot/ton of improvement left.

PJ - well just perserve. Mobile but gets beaten easily most times in the ruck. With practice should improve ruckwork.

I almost tiltled this 'What a difference Neitz makes" - he makes a difference and highlights that we need a good young big man to emerge in the next 2 or 3 years.

Dunn reasonably quiet today but moves well/is clever.

I got a lot of positives from today. Green due back next week but Flash and Sylvia may be cited.

Jones is an absolute gun in the making. Kicked 2 nice goals as well as picking up 18 disposals. I'm still looking for his clearance stats if anyone has them...?

Him and Chook will be a great midfield combo for a long time.

I thought there were plenty of positives too:

Jones showed plenty

Bate had a great game, with scope for a truck load of improvement

Nietz gave a target and, apart from being robbed, made an impact when not expected

Johnson, in the limited game time found the footy. Rucking needs work though

Sylvia is starting to look like he he belongs and with luck, there might be a bit of magic down the track

Yze laid some tackles

Petterd - love his attitude, aggression and work ethic

TJ had a better game

Bell, did his job and looks better and better with each game

Brown's attack was inspiring

Rivers is still a gun

Godders shut out Burgoyne

White found the footy, but needs to move it

Warnock did a couple of nice things and one horrible thing. Great goal

Carroll had a much improved game

The boys again had a dip. The outcome was shattering, dodgy umpiring and all, but they came to play and we're moving forward.

You are scraping the bottom of the barrel to find positives today. We should have won it.

Effort 9/10

Skills 5/10

Kicks to forwards 2/10

Kicking for goal 1/10

Facts are that bad kicking is bad football, end of story.

Atleast Yze Magic is half right on this weeks claims. He predicted us to win by 50 points (or there abouts) - miss

However he also said we will start to make our run and charge to the top 4. We gained 3 percent today and Richmond lost 14% from a thumping. We have begun our ascent up the ladder. Watch out Carlton......Here we come!!!

It's not necessarily all about the end-result - if we'd kicked an extra goal it wouldn't have actually meant the performance today was actually that much better, despite losing again.

With games as close as they were today, they can go either way without much difference on how well you play - as Williams said in pre-match, the ball bounces differently or whatever and the result can go the other way in a game so close.

I think it was really great to see such an inexperienced team do alright. Guys like Petterd, Warnock, Jones, Bate, Dunn, Bell, PJ, and Sylvia are pretty inexperienced but we put together a solid performance.

isn't it saying something that we play our best game for the year..yet still lose....but the best players were kids who aren't even 20 yet.....

I thought Jeff White finding some form today was a huge positive. As well as Bate, Petterd and Bell.

Jeff was playing on a serotonin-adrenalin cocktail after the birth of his son.

We'll re-evaluate his performance next week.

After sustaining a torn ACL in the final match of the 2023 season Jake added a bit to the attack late in the 2024 season upon his return. 2024 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence. 2024 Player Reviews: #42 Daniel Turner

The move of “Disco” to a key forward post looks like bearing fruit. Turner has good hands, moves well and appears to be learning the forward craft well. Will be an interesting watch in 2025. 2024 Player Reviews: #13 Clayton Oliver

Lack of preparation after a problematic preseason prevented Oliver from reaching the high standards set before last year’s hamstring woes. He carried injury right through the back half of the season and was controversially involved in a potential move during the trade period that was ultimately shut down by the club. BLOODY BLUES by Meggs

The conclusion to Narrm’s home and away season was the inevitable let down by the bloody Blues  who meekly capitulated to the Bombers.   The 2024 season fixture handicapped the Demons chances from the get-go with Port Adelaide, Brisbane and Essendon advantaged with enough gimme games to ensure a tough road to the finals, especially after a slew of early season injuries to star players cost wins and percentage.     As we strode confidently through the gates of Prin

2024 Player Reviews: #5 Christian Petracca

Melbourne’s most important player who dominated the first half of the season until his untimely injury in the Kings Birthday clash put an end to his season. At the time, he was on his way to many personal honours and the club in strong finals contention. When the season did end for Melbourne and Petracca was slowly recovering, he was engulfed in controversy about a possible move of clubs amid claims about his treatment by the club in the immediate aftermath of his injury.
