Of course it is. Otherwise tanking doesn’t exist. Players want to win. Coaches putting players in different roles is the benign tactic of tanking.

No one deliberately plays to lose,m; losses are manufactured through savage list management, ‘injuries’, and playing kids ahead of their time.

so why not accuse them of tanking in December last year? the results this year were obvious

trading players out for a re build is not tanking

How long were we in the top four for the last two seasons? In 2021 it was for the whole season. Not sure about last season but we could have been in the four for all if not most of it.

47 consecutive Rounds. Ended this weekend. Some late goals from GWS saved our run of 48 consecutive Rounds in the Top 8.

It is when you do it savagely over 1-2 seasons

It most certainly is. They are throwing kids to the slaughter and hoping a few survive

As far as i am concerned it is way worse than what the MFC did. Our list was just bad

cmon mate. a club is allowed to trade out older players if they reckon they are up for a rebuild.

Sure. But it must be done carefully. So enough experience is left, so the Babies learn properly

Hawthorn have not done that at all

If a large chunk of Senior players are all traded in one year, ABSOLUTELY.

So Saints tanked when they got rid of Dal Santo, Goddard, McEvoy?

Strewth,  how bad is GWS? Rest Coast kicked 100 points?

So much wasted talent. Atleast they retire rich.

Top 8 is farcical. Not interested. It wont look anything like that  in several weeks.

Well to be fair, GWS was missing a bunch of best 22 players and was playing across the country after playing in 34+ degree heat last week.

Still thought they'd win because West Coast are a rabble, but I can see how it went down.

Who was still on their list when those 3 retired?

Hawthorn have no senior experience left except Sicily

They have cut way to hard.

It’s like a business, if all the experienced employees leave at once, then that Business is doomed, the young newbie’s will not prosper.
Hawthorn have done this intentionally and it is a disgrace.

The new recruits have no chance, we should know, the difference being we didn’t have any decent experienced players. Hawthorn did, and they sold them all

GWS played last week in a "brutal" game. Was 36 degrees and hard running. They lost two mids and always looked like this was going to be a hard road trip

Shouldn’t we all be happy they’ve gone abut their rebuild like this? Much more likely to fail.

their list management has been bad for awhile. They tried the top up strategy but it failed miserably. Brought in players like Scully and Patton that didn’t work. The only hope they have is to get top end talent into the club.

Match report on Eagles v Giants.

Jayden Hunt was recruited for his speed, and on Sunday he showed his value with 23 disposals, two goals, and 566m gained.

Are you trying to say we missed Hunt on the weekend?

If so, I don’t think you’re really focusing on the true reason we lost, which wasn’t speed.

Freo should never have been in that position to begin with. Ffs it was their home game against a two time wooden spooner who literally hasn’t won at that venue in 198 years.

Looks like we may have found the two teams that statistically fail to make the 8 the next season.  Dogs and Dockers.  Dogs I get but Freo should be better on 2022.

The average is 2.7 teams, so maybe the cats?  Can only dream.

Not disputing any of that. But they will ruin AFL careers of kids with potential and they should be called out for that

Or us. No guarantee we make the 8 if we keep copping injuries and suspension to key players.

It's pretty crazy though isn't it, the only players with over 150 games experience on the list are Breust and Wingard.

Just 4 others with over 100 games.

LIVE AND LET DIE by Meggs

The Demons’ impressive late season charge to finals will most likely come unstuck this Saturday evening when the Bombers blow up the also-ran Blues in the Ikon Park double-header.   To mangle McCartney, what does it matter to ya? To have any chance to play next week Narrm has got a job to do and needs to do it well.  We’ve got to give the Pie sheilas hell, say live and let die! It’s Indigenous Round for this game and the chance to celebrate and engage with Aboriginal and Torres

Failed to fulfill the promise of his breakout six goal effort against the Tigers in 2023 and was generally disappointing as a key forward. It remains to be seen whether Simon Goodwin will persevere with him in attack or return him to the backline where he was an important cog in the club’s 2021 premiership success. After a bright start to the season, playing mostly in defence, Howes seemed to lose his way in midseason but fought back with some good performances at Casey and finished the year back at AFL level. Sadly, had to wrap up a great career in midstream on the back of multiple concussions which culminated in the Maynard hit in the 2023 Qualifying Final. His loss to the club was inestimable over and above his on field talent given his character and leadership qualities, all of which have been sorely missed. The son of former Demon Brownlow Medalist Shane, Taj added a further 16 games to his overall tally of games but a number were as substitute.
