Don’t believe everything you read... although if you read my posts you’d notice I’ve said he’s rated about pick 6 all along.

I can’t imagine we are making these moves if we haven’t had it made very clear to us what it will take to get a deal done.

Rated at 6 in Cal Twomey's September list.

Should we get 7 + Haynes as a salary dump, it will be interesting to see what happens with Petty.

Could we realistically end up with 5, 7, 10 and 11? To be partially mixed into a bid for 1?

Sweet Garbo.

You're not understanding.

This is not about 'rushing' into a trade. I know as much or as little as you!!!!

Here's what we've heard from the media: Petty has a desire to get back to SA at some point. And Adelaide are hell bent on getting him this trade period and have offered what myself and many believe to be overs in pick 10, 20 and McAdam.

Now.

If that is true, we'd be a poorly run club not to entertain this offer given the options it gives us going forward.

What are those options, (everyone keeps asking me). I don't [censored] know!!!!

BUT!!

What I do know is that we already have a strong draft hand. We have a fantastic list manager and recruiter and have an enormously positive track record in this space.

What people on demonland need to get in their heads is what our future looks like post Gawn and May. Where will our list be? What kind of pain needs to be inflicted now to give us a positive looking future?

It honestly seems like nobody is thinking that way.

I don't care if we don't make finals next year or the year after if it means we can have another four cracks at it in three-four years time.

You also have to look at what that kind of thing does for the growth of the club as far as new supporter and membership goes...

I don't get why people don't think of this?

You want flags now and only now?!

We just missed out on two golden opportunities. Time to look forward with this list and entertain any and all offers that could benefit our club going forward.

Sometimes I think of this place as being a cult. And Saty runs it.

Saty would still have Jordie McKenzie, Rohan Bail and Matthew Bate as our leadership group promising that they're improving every pre-season.

(all the while we'd be bottom of the ladder losing games by 100 points).

Unless you think Petty has peaked as a player why sell now when we can extract even more value in future years and continue to have a best 22 player on our list, it only stands to reason if Petty continues to improve which is more likely that not we will get even better offers next year and the year after. Crows trying to get him now before his value goes up even further.

Pretty is a 197cm premiership player at 23 years of age and could possibly turn into a forward. Why on earth do people want to let him go for pick 10 + maybe something in the 20's? Madness.

If petty doesn’t go but we got pick 7 and Haynes

would we offer pick 5 (or is it pick 6?) and 11 for pick 1? Or would pick 5(pick6)and 7 be more realistic you reckon?

Haynes only has the 1 year on his contract to go, so he wouldn't get in the way of a bigger target for next year, if that's what our plans are. Makes sense if they want him off the books. Don't think Petty has to come into the thoughts on this deal

Can somebody explain how we can get GWS 7 and Heynes. I have no idea how that can be played out after our trades today.

The deal for pick 11 looks incredibly one-sided.

So there are 2 potential outcomes we are aiming for from this (potentially either would satisfy us):

1. We orchestrated the move with a deal in mind that will require pick 11 and make the lopsided nature of the initial trade seem irrelevant (see Hogan for picks that acquired May, Steven); OR

2. There is a player we think is very likely to be available at pick 11 that is unlikely to be available at 14 and worth the price we paid.

I think the first option is more likely, but hopefully both are true in case the first does not come to fruition. Chances are that that players we have our eyes on that would have been taken with the 2 later picks that went for pick 11, will still be available with the late picks we hold (e.g. Brown & Andrew)

I’d be happy to somehow get McAdam AND keep Petty.

And McAdam could fill Petty in about what’s been happening in Adelaide to help stave off the homesickness.

Funny that I’ve been calling him “Heyne” thinking others were getting it wrong, but I had Haynes confused with a St Kilda reject from 12 years ago.

Salary cap dump by GWS. Haynes is owed close to $1 million next year, whereas we could absorb that but get the good pick doing so. We might have to trade a future 2nd but get pick 7 and Haynes. GWS get a token pick and salary space.

Does Adelaide picking up tall forward Chris Burgess mean that a Petty deal is less likely?

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
