Salem was not flash on the weekend but he’s been very good since his return.

Salem>ANB every day of the week

Why are we comparing Salem to ANB?

It's like comparing Steven May with Kozzy Pickett.

Salem is a half backer that we use off the back of stoppages as a quarterback and to reset and maintain possession.

ANB is a speed forward that essentially plays a high forward role between A50 and D50, and helps us defend right across the ground and then lock the ball inside A50.

Ridiculous...

I hope we're having a serious look at Dylan stephens, classy mid, former top 5 pick, could immediately add something to our side. given the Swans interest in Brodie Grundy i wouldn't be against a swap occuring there.

Doesn't he mostly play wing?

He's got the ability to play inside/outside but has mainly played outside given the Swans inside quality. i expect he'd do something similar with us

How many heart and soul players does a team have? I dont class Salem as one of them and his 2023 has been poor after a middling injury impacted 2022. We have others for the role on lesser $$$. I would not say he cant be traded at the right price.

LRedFE

So we trade because we have about 5 players able to take Salo's spot (not necessarily his style of game either) and are about $2/300,000 less st this stage of their career.

To say Salo has been poor this year is grossly wrong. He was down last week in disposal and composure, his two greatest assets. His season has been good, not great as in 2021.

We don't get rid of either ANB or Salo and as has been stated both play different roles. ANB is in rare form (career best) finishing his work with goals and I am backing Christian to return to his proficient and classy best.

His last 3 weeks have been mediocre. Not comparing the two players as they play different roles and would also have different values in market. Not saying I would trade him but he is not “Heart and Soul” and is tradeable at the right price.

Nth will get pick 3 as compensation for McKay

I disagree. There was nothing more stage managed this year by the AFL than the Hawthorn controversy.

Suddenly Hawthorn started winning games (stopped tanking) and Clarkson was shuffled out the side door just before a milestone game… to predictably return several weeks later.

AFL won’t give North pick 3. I’m sure.

Too much interference/management by them this year. It’ll be end of first round, at best.

Hawny for Gawny's rebuttal:

Yeo - would have to take a paycut

Liam Ryan -  too expensive (Max would have PTSD too much)

Jeremy McGovern - No

Todd - Grundy isn't working? lets get an older slower version!

Mabior - Chose to go home and is probably on some decent cash but I don't hate it.

What he said.   And re McGovern (190/96), we need to go to the draft for a gorilla in training to replace May.   Unless a team needs a salary dump. Turner and co. are rather slight.

So you don't want to improve the squad, Salem could not kick the pill 40 metres when having a shot for goal, dinky little kicks and handballs over his head he is not the player he was, but it's a fact to get more players in you have to move players out it's a business now, I would prefer to have a reserves team included but that's not going to happen.

Just let the kids grow .......they will fill out and be terrific if managed properly. We have been spoilt with the young people we have brought along over the last few years : i.e. Bowey (Salem Jnr), Rivers ("Daniel RIoli "  Jnr), Jarrod McVee ( Tony Hardiman Jnr), Van Royen (Jonathan Brown Jnr), Sparrow (Viney's Love child ) , Kozzie (Jnr Wizz) , Spargs and Chandler plus Wowo Jnr. And that is just the ones I know about !!!

All is good in the village !!!

More appropriate. Essendon?

yeh, but north would match the offer and force it to a trade at which point dons might back out entirely as they would no longer be giving up nothing and then maybe brings other clubs into play for him

re stephens, brayshaw or rivers could play more onball and he slots in it could work.

similarly on the salem chat, i dont think he's irreplaceable, hes 28 which is prime but he doesnt really change games the same way he used to and as others have mentioned we have a younger core back there who are offering as much already say we add stephens to that too and if a club came with the right picks i think we'd weigh it up. i;m not saying we'd force a converation or he'd be looking around but sometimes things just happen and just work and down the line this could be one, or maybe he gets to 33 like hibbo and becomes a super grunty shut down deeper option who knows what the future holds

2024 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence. The move of “Disco” to a key forward post looks like bearing fruit. Turner has good hands, moves well and appears to be learning the forward craft well. Will be an interesting watch in 2025. Lack of preparation after a problematic preseason prevented Oliver from reaching the high standards set before last year’s hamstring woes. He carried injury right through the back half of the season and was controversially involved in a potential move during the trade period that was ultimately shut down by the club. BLOODY BLUES by Meggs

The conclusion to Narrm’s home and away season was the inevitable let down by the bloody Blues  who meekly capitulated to the Bombers.   The 2024 season fixture handicapped the Demons chances from the get-go with Port Adelaide, Brisbane and Essendon advantaged with enough gimme games to ensure a tough road to the finals, especially after a slew of early season injuries to star players cost wins and percentage.     As we strode confidently through the gates of Prin

At the time, he was on his way to many personal honours and the club in strong finals contention. When the season did end for Melbourne and Petracca was slowly recovering, he was engulfed in controversy about a possible move of clubs amid claims about his treatment by the club in the immediate aftermath of his injury.
