Everyone is entitled to their opinion, there's no need to get personal.

Noted. Just genuinely shocked that anyone would entertain an injury-plagued 30 year old who played his only good season of AFL more than 10 years ago and has consistently shown he is incapable of surviving - let alone thriving - the rigours of modern football.  There is a speck of upside (being generous) and a mountain of downside in recruiting him.

Based on what little I know, I wouldn't be averse to him playing with Casey.  From what I recollect, his attitude and application around the club had been reported as pretty good bar the one incident at the end.

Yep lets recruit a 30 year old who has been a poor role model, has history of misdemeanours & played 3 games in the last 5 years.  Just what we need to take the club forward.

Seems like some truth to the rumor.

Former No.2 pick making bid for third AFL comeback

Currently playing with the Tiwi Bombers, where I think Majak Daw is also currently playing, perhaps there could be some inside insights.

Good luck to him.

Melbourne paid his 50k fine ???.i wouldn't have.

He let the club down and he knew what he was doing. He'd be lucky to get a shot even at Ess or Saints.

Some people are just too forgiving.

Good luck to him but not with us.

LOL your comment "not even at Ess or Saints" 😀

If he gets to anyone, I think it will only be if he dominates at VFL level, in which case I think he'd go to high in the mid season draft to get to us.  If he's looking the goods form wise, I think he will have plenty of suitors, but I suspect that's a big IF.

Sheeesh PF ease up.  For all we know maybe he's just happy pulling on the boots at VFL level and playing footy at the best level he can.

Can't blame the guy for having a go.  His skills are silky as, has good footy sense and I recon he'd be good enough to be a good player at VFL level.  If he wasn't 30 and didn't had the issues with his body, I think AFL would be well within reach, but I'd agree that's a long shot based on the indication of that we saw in 2020 of his physical ability these days.

Cost the club 50 Grand for his stupidity! I stand by my comments. No one would dare draft him! totally damaged goods. Can play and have fun at Port Melb , but to think he would be a chance to be again Drafted?? No way known!

You seem to be running a one man Bennell fan Club promotion. HB is clearly delusional about what he has to offer.

Apart from the fact that he is over the hill & injury prone he has a history of indiscretions at all 3 clubs he played at.

Lmfao this is a joke right? Someone's got an evil sense of humour

All the best to Harley if he's fair dinkum about this, would love to see him get another shot at it but even more I'd love to see him happy in life.

Not a chance for AFL. He was barely 22 in our side in 2021 and has been out of the system since and is 30.

Don’t hold grudges but facts say it is near impossible.

Well done though I think he may have stood a better (though admittedly slight) chance of getting on an AFL list by joining an AFL aligned/top up VFL club.

Will add some interest to the competition at the very least

I suggest no aligned club were interested.

  • PREVIEW: North Melbourne

Can you believe it? After a long period of years over which Melbourne has dominated in matches against North Melbourne, the Demons are looking down the barrel at two defeats at the hands of the Kangaroos in the same season. And if that eventuates, it will come hot on the heels of an identical result against the Gold Coast Suns. How have the might fallen? There is a slight difference in that North Melbourne are not yet in the same place as Gold Coast. Like Melbourne, they are currently situated in the lower half of the ladder and though they did achieve a significant upset when the teams met earlier in the season, their subsequent form has been equally unimpressive and inconsistent.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
