Melbourne superstar Clayton Oliver has undergone surgery on his thumb to fix a niggling problem in his right hand.

The Demons on Wednesday confirmed Oliver, 25, had gone under the knife to get on top of a minor issue which had been bothering him in recent weeks.

The injury is expected to fully heal over the next few weeks, allowing Oliver to return to full training when his teammates come back from their Christmas break next month.

From my training report on December 5;

Clarry also left the drills at one stage and was having some discomfort around the wrist and thumb area (hope that's not from the break last year).

It clearly hasn't settled, so great to see them being proactive with plenty of time for him to recover.

I wonder how long it will take him to say " WTF was I thinking!" When he takes a good hard look at his current hairdo.

And that’s the hair all his maiden brownlow memorabilia will show too. Do you hold out and wait to buy the stuff for his second Charlie instead?

(As an aside, I love his hair. He deserves to be identifiable. If you were showing the game to anyone just getting into afl, being able to pick clarry out helps)

When I saw the click bait article in the herald sun I almost fainted!

thank Christ it’s only a minor surgery

Curse you to hell Selwood.

The stager who unintentionally intentionally kicked him in the hand.

Hopefully they have fixed his thumb completely this time, Clayton is to important to the team and deserves to be able to play pain free.!!!

Not the only player Selfridge has size 10d

You mean, the scot-free, faking bag of detritus who heads the AFL Free Kick tally?

He's done a disservice to AFL because now we have the next wave of cheats ready to follow his lead like his illegitimate son at Collingwood

It may rouse the umpires into acknowledging all of the  free kicks he should mandatorily receive each game in the midst of violent intent and maiming -  yet they pretend (so far) to consider nothing untoward occurred. If he has that gentle touch as a personal image accompanying his ponytail, it may assist in this shirked responsibility of the snot goblins.

It may be wise for Gawn to consider a ponytail, as welI? If Gawny cannot grow one, a wig might suffice. I'd hate to be the moron who sarcastically comments on a wig atop of Max's head - the whole team would crash down on him in an instant.

Good heavens pf where is the legend..

It could have it's own weekly statistic...."the Selfridge frees for the match" ....wouldn't want to draw attention to the stat though.Danger might think there is money 💰 attached

To drag this thread back to Clarry: it makes you marvel at the level that he was playing at in circumstances where he had difficulties with his handballing  and dominant hand!

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
