This is to bookmark for the future but it currently reflects the indicative 2023 draft order if all teams finish in the same places next year as they did this year.

ROUND ONE

1. North Melbourne
2. West Coast Eagles
3. GWS Giants
4. Essendon
5. Adelaide
6. Hawthorn
7. Gold Coast Suns
8. North Melbourne
9. St Kilda
10. Carlton
11. Western Bulldogs
12. GWS Giants
13. Melbourne
14. Melbourne
15. Western Bulldogs
16. Collingwood
17. Sydney Swans
18. Geelong

ROUND TWO

19. Adelaide
20. Fremantle
21. West Coast Eagles
22. Adelaide
23. Essendon
24. Gold Coast Suns
25. Sydney Swans
26. Gold Coast Suns
27. West Coast Eagles
28. St Kilda
29. Collingwood
30.  Hawthorn
31. Richmond
32. Melbourne
33. Melbourne
34. Western Bulldogs
35. Port Adelaide
36. Sydney Swans
37. Brisbane Lions

ROUND THREE

38. North Melbourne
39. Fremantle
40. West Coast Eagles
41. GWS Giants
42. Essendon
43. Gold Coast Suns
44. Sydney Swans
45. Gold Coast Suns
46. West Coast Eagles
47. St Kilda
48. Fremantle
49. Hawthorn
50. Richmond
51. Port Adelaide
52. North Melbourne
53. Brisbane Lions
54. Gold Coast Suns
55.  Sydney Swans
56. Brisbane Lions

ROUND FOUR

57. Fremantle
58. West Coast Eagles
59. GWS Giants
60. Carlton
61. Gold Coast
62. North Melbourne
63. Gold Coast Suns
64. Port Adelaide
65. Gold Coast Suns
66. Carlton
67. Western Bulldogs
68. Richmond
69. Brisbane Lions
70. Western Bulldogs
71. GWS Giants
72. Collingwood
73. Essendon
74. Western Bulldogs

So going off that scenario and assuming Gold Coast's academy player is a top 5 pick, I could see us doing the following:

Melbourne Trade

Pick 13 - 1,212 points

Pick 14 - 1,161 points

Pick 33 - 563 points

Gold Coast Trade

Pick 7 - 1,644 points

Pick 26 - 729 points

Future 2nd or 3rd round pick

That would give GC an extra 563 points and then we end up with pick 7, 26 & 32 for the 2023 draft.

I think we should trade pick 24 for LJ and pick 23 provided they pay half his salary (and mum agrees)

This is why it may be better if we use 4-5 picks this year to further bolster our list than go all in on getting the number 1 pick

Thanks Whispering! The order may change but the impact on the points will still be in the same ball park. Our pick 8 & 15 is 2633 points which roughly is a bit more than pick 2 or 3 it may go down a little depending on Freoi

If Kangers get a draft compensation for Ben McKay (800k salary = Pick 6), does that mean if we get squeezed back a selection this year? or would that apply to next year?

It would be this years draft. It is no different to when Frawley left and we ended up with Brayshaw.

According to Perth media Harley Reid was recently seen inspecting the Eagles training facility . Apparently he was ovet there with the Vic team and got BOG.

Pick 15 and 24 straight to Gold Coast for pick 6, then decide whether pick 5 and 6 go to West Coast for 1 and 19, add in second round pick as well.

Gold Coast needs points not early picks.

Pick 1, 19 and Brown be a pretty good get

Put yourself in GC shoes and i reckon they'd want their current pick + the academies as a starting point so Pick 6 for 15,24 (even though they benefit in points) will be a hard sell, but it is the most logical.

Taking 5,6 for 1,19 puts WC at a negative points wise. They'd do it for pick 1 alone, but we'd need to offer up another pick (34 wont cut it) for pick 19 coming back.

The only spanner in the works is if they get pick 4 from Sydney for Barass. This can play both ways - if they get Pick 4 ( i personally dont think Barass is worth it), we lose all leverage and cant use Curtain as a negotiating tactic - assuming he is available at 5 as Norf are now lacking serious defensive KPD with McKay on the way out and Logue out for 2024 with an ACL. Will WC be happy with 1,4 (potentially getting Reid and Curtain) or will they be better placed going for 4,5,6 (still getting Curtain but possibly two other guns). Its easy for us to say the latter as they'll get an extra gun and we get Reid. For me they cant go wrong with either, but an extra player probably helps them rebound sooner.

If we dont get Reid but end up with 5,6 all is not lost either. I just have a feeling that Reid will take the path of Rowell as opposed to Daicos so going all in for Reid is a bit risky. But what do i know.

Gold Coast will 100% trade their first round pick that will be anywhere from pick 4-10. Problem is we won’t be the only ones after it and others may value it higher and/or have Breyer hand to trade with.
Take the dogs for instance they currently have picks 12 and 16. They also have a father son pick that’s rated late in the first round.  They could easily split their second and then go to the Suns with pick 12 plus another good pick that they get from splitting 16.

GWS have 7 and 9 and good easily spit the second to have a strong hand to offer the Suns.

Sydney is also one to watch, I expect them to rise up the ladder from their current position and they have a very good academy player of their own coming through that played very well over the weekend. They have Hawks 2nd and third round picks as well as their own. If their academy player( Cleary) end up being valued around the same as first pick then they will be keen to move up.

The clubs aren't going to let GC walk away with their Academy players and another top 6 pick.

I don't think the club will go after the no 1 pick, we have options to do so if they want to but I reckon we would be happy with 2 top 10 picks plus Brown later in the draft

So we can take it that Picks 5 and 24 are locked In because Freo are out of business for the rest of the year while Picks 15, 34 and 89 can fluctuate depending on what we do during the finals series.

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
