Too many Suns players refused to fight it out. Mabior Chol standing while his opponent ran away from him, after getting the ball while Chol watched,as an example.

Run that game out and they could have won it. Very disappointing.

...and wouldn't hit up the ball. Continually wanted to get the easy one over the back.

They really are struggling to get a consistent effort.

As for Freo...unless something changes they look like a bottom 6 team.

He was very poor last night. Didn;t contest at all. No second effort. Poor body language waving his hands in the air ala Jesse Hogan. If he was a teammate of mine i would have given him some direct feedback post-game.

And i should have said, Ben King wasn't much better.

The fact is that Freo were 4 goals down late in the 3rd quarter against probably the unfittest team in the comp who couldn’t run the game out. I found it amusing they were carrying on when they got the win, they won’t win too many if they keep playing like that.

And isn’t the Norwood oval just as pretty as a postcard picture?

At least he has a bit of an excuse...but he really might as well not been there.

Apart from one mark I'm not sure he did anything else.

They really are struggling...can't use the youth excuse anymore.

Enough of their players have been in the system for a while now.

I think the issue is the work is being left to too few.

A lot of lazy footballers.

Not sure what GC saw in Mac Andrew to draft him so high.

I wonder if we would have taken him if he got through to our first pick.

The AFL need to get Hardwick to GC next year. He's done at Richmond and they're heading down the Hawthorn route under him, but he could make a difference at the Suns.  I don't like him but then I don't like Clarkson or Lyon either and they are improving their new clubs.

Longmire would be even better but why would he leave the young Swans who are on the rise?

I don't think Simpson and Hinkley have a hard enough edge to fix what's wrong up there.

I agree. Hardwick or Buckley are the only true options for Gold Coast in my opinion. If poor old Yze went there he'd be chewed up and spat out.

You’re sitting at the draft table in 2021 and you have a choice at pick 19 -

Andrew or van Rooyen.

What’s your choice?

Buckley is too smart to get back into coaching I think.

Anyway sorry to all for derailing the deathride. May it roll again next week.

after 5 rounds, i had flagmantle having a 4-1 record

so to have them sitting 2-3 is a win imo

tough run upcoming

And they barely got those two wins.

Overall Freo's display has been underwhelming to say the least.

Agree. They were ordinary, just beating an ordinary team, with plenty of passengers.

Is it just me, or has Rowell gone backwards? I saw him have no effect at all on the game.

No, not just you. I was saying the same with regard to Rowell to someone this morning.

He's not a big mid (similar size to Viney I would guess but Vin has much more mongrel) and the shoulder injuries seem to have set him back.

Not sure whether he will realise the promise of his early games.

Both him and O'Meara came into the game with such a blaze of glory but have become so run of the mill.

I guess that's why it's dangerous to heap expectations on a young player...Hogan and Daniher also come to mind.

If Witts plays they win that game.

His bro comes up in this year's draft. I believe he's in our academy, but not sure. We have 4 picks in the first 2 rounds, so maybe!

Did you think Jackson spent much time on ball?

It appeared to me they wanted to use the advantage they had with Darcy.

Be interested in the stats for his time on ball and centre bounce appearances.

I think Darcy was more on the ball than LJ and you are probably right, that they saw it as an advantage against a 2nd gamer.

Amazing how many media ‘experts’ were talking up a Richmond renaissance in the preseason. Even after we belted them in a practice game, you had Whately carding on about it being like racehorse training and that Richmond were holding back and letting their stable mate show their hand. Complete nonsense

Ah Gil Favor, Rowdy Yates, Wishbone and Mushy.

Good show.

Hardwick would be good for them and maybe getting away from Victoria, with his new partner, would be good for him as well.

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
