Melbourne supporters boo'd Oskar Baker even after we delisted him without playing an AFL game for 2 years.

I can’t believe that. I didn’t notice it. It must have been just a few nuffies.

As you know I have openly admitted booing one ex player but that was because of his behaviour not just his leaving.

We all have to accept that in professional sport, players occasionally move teams.

That is not a reason for booing them.

I would be very upset to lose Kozzie, but I would never boo him, if he left. It is actually very childish.

I know you understand that it was a perfect storm with LJ, where he had family issues, was offered a massive contract to return home and play for the team he supported and it was just too good to knock back. I don’t blame him for that.

As it appears to be turning out, it may be the very reason for the Dockers poor start to the season and hopefully dreadful year, while maybe handing us a player or two, who will turn out  better than LJ and have long careers with the Dees.

We already have Jefferson and Grundy as a result of LJ leaving with more to come.

I hope Freo are having nightmares over a 7 year,  nearly million dollars a year contract and that they even possibly win the spoon.

Imagine we get say pick 3 and we want someone who will go outside of the first 3, we could be offered even more high picks, while still getting the boy we want.

Compared to Jackson circumstances and how he left, the boo's will be well and truly coming his way from Melbourne supporters.

I thought Baker was only boo’d sarcastically because the Dogs supporters had already boo’d Hunter several times, and at least where I was sitting, there was as much laughter at the pantomime as there was booing.

Time will tell re: Jackson and boos.

One can only hope that Freo are dumb enough to start tanking soon. 😄

Every reason not to.  Not the least of which is the wrath from fans and pile on from the media.

After Freo lose to the Lions next week they are 2-5.

Season 100% over.

Could could we land with a high pick if we traded?

Yes!

At this stage bottom 4 appear to be:  North, Eagles, Hawks and GCS.  North and Eagles both traded down last year.  GCS might have an Academy player in the top 5 so may want to ditch their first pick.  GWS hold their own and Richmond's first pick.  At this stage both look like being top 10 picks.  GCS and GWS have shown willingness to be flexible in trading top picks, sometimes accepting 'unders'.

Plenty of scope to package our available 3 first round and 3 second round picks.

Too many machinations to guess how we might get to a player we want.

Once the Dockers reach the out of finals contention position, they might actually get even worse, with the players not caring at all.

We can hope for that.

The train is coming into the station!

The only team below Freo that is likely to rise above them is Richmond.  The only team above them that is likely to fall below them is GWS.

Result:  pick 5, 6 or 7 for the Dees:cool:

We need an elite midfielder which we have tried to get in the last two seasons.  Plenty of currency to work with to climb further up the draft if need be.

Do you think North could also be a chance? I need to check out their draw.

Guaranteed he's going to get boo'd...

It's all part of the theatre and you'll get nuffy supporters at every club who'll go out of their way to boo.

Jesse Hogan gave us much better service then Jacko and there were boos when he stepped foot on the MCG in 2019.

Me too.  At the time we couldn't understand the booing of Hunter as the Dogs let him go, he was happy to stay with them.  So why boo him doggies fans?

A bit of pantomine.  I'm very happy to see Baker having a good shot at the Dogs.  he did well last night.

Round 6: Prelimanry 'What they are saying at Freo'

Summed up by this post:

  • So...umm...where is this "list" that is supposedly good enough? Seems like we need another draft or two to set us up in the long run. Whoops, we spent it on a jack of all trades: Competent in none.
  • Oh but sure, we can trade forwards in from other clubs.....except we're not a destination and have to pay a premium tax as a non-destination club with no prime time slots and we have no [censored]ing capital to trade.
  • And who the [censored] thought Pearce was a captain?!? He's struggling to hold his spot in the side. F.R.O.
  • It's just an endless cycle of abuse.
  • /rant

Other Notable comments:

  • Just imagine the melts when Melbourne walk away with our #3 draft pick.
  • I stand by the Hogan trade ruined the rebuild.
  • Thank christ. After a 6 year rebuild I was really worried we would play finals 2 seasons in a row.
  • It’s ok we are the number one handball team in the league though. 🤯
  • …the players are ******* confused and doing whatever with no leadership
  • Everything was going swimmingly until we named our new Captain and it's been ******* nothing but s**t ever since!!!
  • You could realistically say every single player we brought in is worse than the 1 who left
  • I'm going to enjoy the ride. Another dockery story to tell my grandkids. The time we got ahead of ourselves and gave away all our draft picks for a unicorn.
  • Heading to Brissie next week, can’t wait ☹️
  • It’s confirmed. We’re just making up the numbers
  • Bring back Chris conoly .. at least we used to kick multiple goals in a row.
  • I cannot tell you how irrationally mad I am about giving away our first pick this year.
  • Why the * did we sell Lobb, Logue, Acres, Meek and ultimately replace them with an overage midfielder and a second ruckman. How the hell does that work?
  • Bell is gone. Dale Alcock is a crock and would gladly for him to go. Garlick. Meh.
  • List management will always be the kypronite of this club.

My Favourite:

  • 4ft no neck Bell who stands there with no friends but his ego, you are cancer: OUT

Seems some Dees fans didn’t get the ‘ironic boos just the once’ memo. They booed him more than once. Moreover, they booed him during the player introductions on the big screen, and that was before the match even started!

It was a little game and nothing else. Bulldogs fans had booed Lachie Hunter 10 seconds before so they did it as a square up. That's how I saw it anyway.

Yep, Jeff White got booed at Subiaco in his first game for Melbourne in 1998. It's been happening since day dot.

I get that certain ex players will get boos but the Baker one was genuine [censored] poor by Melbourne supporters regardless what people think of his ability.

In the end we will be better off.

More money to keep Kozzie, a top 10 pick and we have gained something special in a fit all Australian ruck with Reg Grundy.

And we got Jefferson.

Freo have stuffed it up big time and won't even have the solace of good draft picks.

Or maybe we could offer to give the picks back to them in exchange for Caleb Serong. Young Vic lad perhaps looking to come home? He'd look great in the red and blue.

Sarong, But oh so right!    It's how i feels when barracking for anyone vs Freo.   They really could be bottom 4, even NM, Hawks, GCS are all chances of winning more games atm.   West Coast are looking a likely spooner.

I’m looking forward to 3 yrs time when we get Dogga back in a massive salary 💩

Then at Melbourne he learns to clunk and goes on to greatness.

  • PREVIEW: Sydney

The two teams competing at the MCG on Sunday afternoon have each traversed a long and arduous path since their previous encounter on a sweltering March evening in Sydney a season and a half ago. Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
