If we ended up with say, 5, 16 and 23 from freo finishing 13th and us 3rd there's no way we wouldnt be talking to whoever finishes last and seeing if they want to trade 1 for a couple of first rounders.

3 picks inside top 25 would be phenomenal. If we were to lose other players that were fringe or wanting more $$$ after our 2nd premiership, that could be 4-5 in the first 2 rounds in a super draft. That would keep us in the window for the next 10 years…. Just imagine.

How can that be !! AFL fixturing is a joke. Freo played in a semi-final last season. Yet they get a bottom 4 type fixture 🤦🏻‍♂️

Just look at Sydney’s fixture. First four weeks, aside from us, they get Gold Coast, Hawks and Port (who look good this round but didn’t make the 8 last year).

Made the grand final and lost, so let’s give them an armchair ride into another grand final.

Watch them get to a percentage of 300 next week after they slaughter Hawthorn.

I believe they have one of the harder fixtures...it's just their first five or so rounds or considered easy ones

They had an " easy one" today how did that go?

This is why I'm riding this train on its journey around the 2023 AFL season - not the 'LJ Thing' (he's forever in my memory for his part in Bang Bang Bang); rather, it's the draft bounty.

It's just the reality.

While in a sense I'm not that personal about it with LJ and share your positive sentiments for his contribution to our flag (along with a whole bunch of players who played a bigger part IMHO), I'd also like it if he can provide a good example to others of what it can look like to leave a team with huge potential for imeediate sucess for other aspirants where that on-field sucess may turn to carp and all they are left with is money and living in their 'home state' of birth.

If it's a pessimistic eye that you're casting over it then the answer is yes.

I really thought that I might be able to avoid this death ride stuff but, on Sunday afternoon/evening, I found myself drawn to the St Kilda vs Fremantle game and was actually trying to will St Kilda to the 4 points.

In the end, the willing side of things was unnecessary because the Dockers lost it all on their own with an insipid display against a depleted outfit operating on 50% rat power.

I’m sure the Freo brains trust is searching for answers but it looked to be quite simple - their depth is being sorely tested.

Fremantle traded heavily in order to fit Jackson onto their list. They traded away Blake Acres (Carlton), Rory Lobb (Western Bulldogs), Griffin Logue (North Melbourne), Lloyd Meek (Hawthorn) and Darcy Tucker (North Melbourne). They also lost David Mundy to retirement. Apart from Mundy, none of the players the Dockers lost were household names but each of them individually was a player who gave the team additional options in terms of placing and performance.

The Dockers’ gains during the trade period were Jackson and Jaeger O'Meara. On Sunday, the latter was okay and promises to be handy but Jacko was sluggish and presented no danger to the Saints. I question his fitness. Fyfe appears to be a shadow of his former shadow.

it was only game one but they were, along with the Hawks, the round’s biggest losers.

This was pretty much my thesis for thinking/hoping that they might miss finals. A few more injuries and they’ll be in trouble.

Surely they will take care of north this week though.

Looking at how LJ presented himself for his first game in his new colours, I reckon he might be hoping that the Fremantle Doctor specializes in diet control.

Darcy also looks heavy and bulky but not in a muscular sense.  I wonder if that is how Freo prefer their ruckmen and have bulked up Jackson. Doubt that being bulky would help their speed or endurance.  Especially in today's high speed game.

They remind me of how Steven May arrived at the club, seemingly fit but bulky.  It took a season to change his body shape and he learnt to run and chase.  Became a different player.

I'm not entirely sure the reason why they went for Jaeger O' Meara in the off season.

29 year old who's banged up with knee issues and he looked pretty underwhelming on the weekend with only the 19 touches.

Just on Jackson regarding fitness. Jackson use to source out a pretty popular PT guru in Perth by the name of Bodymajic. The guy that runs that works with several other AFL Perth based players and was the key catalyst for setting up Jacko's fitness levels heading into the 2021 season.

Since he's moved back to perth I didn't see much footage of Jacko on the instagram page which probably means he stopped going.

Could be the reason why he looked sluggish on the weekend.

Do you think he went pre 2021 as part mfc's fitness program?  And the flipside: do you think he stopped going as part of Freo's program?  I would guess most players' off-season program is endorsed by their club...

Not entirely sure.  Pur fitness program would have played a bigger role.

I was more talking about the off season when he was in Perth. Jacko took his fitness levels pretty serious and I think that set himself up well for the season.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
