The Casey Demons have a trio of Dandenong Stingrays players down at training in the hope of securing a contract and joining the VFL premiers in 2023:-

• Melbourne Next Generation Academy and Vic Country player Finn Emile-Brennan (18, 181cm) averaged 22.1 disposals, 4.7 marks and 7.1 rebounds in 15 matches for the Stingrays and also played down back for Vic Country in the Under 18 National Championships;

• Ned Moodie (18, 188cm) had 15.5 touches, 4.7 marks and 3.7 rebounds in 11 NAB League matches games;

• Ziggy Toledo-Glassman (18, 192cm) picked up 10.8 possessions and kicked 14 goals in eight appearances. Was in the Vic Country squad.

• We can also expect to see a number of 2022 AFL Demon draftees on display at Casey Fields during the coming season.

In other news -

• 2022 Premiership coach Mark Corrigan has taken up the coaching job at Geelong VFL and has been replaced by his senior assistant Taylor Whitford.

• Some retired and delisted MFC players will be suiting up elsewhere. Leading goalkicker Mitch Brown will be with Southern league club Mordialloc while Fraser Rosman has signed with Port Melbourne for 2023 and Jake Spencer who was called out of State league retirement for a surprise appearance for the Demons just before the finals will continue on locally this year, switching to Northern team Montmorency.

• Premiership defender Matt Buntine will remain on the list but expects to spend more time coaching at Casey Fields and playing VAFA for Caulfield Grammarians.

• Casey listed mainstays Mitch White and Jimmy Munro who were captain and vice-captain in their 2022 Grand Final triumphs will be back to defend their premiership flags. Tom Freeman is also expected to re-sign despite playing just three matches last year.

We will draft Moodie in mid year draft.

I didn't think we had a vacancy on the list after selecting Kye Turner in the SSP.

Not wanting to put the mozz on anyone but  a vacancy can arise if a player is put on a long term injury list. Hoping that we don’t need to go to the mid season draft.

Based on?

No confirmed list as yet this year. Casey might trial some players through the practice matches before finalising squad.

Skipper White said a few youngsters were training but he had no names to recall to mention.  He confirmed that Quigley and Ellison have moved on after the premiership.

Five youngsters named so far (Moodie, FEB, ZTG, Galvin and Cross). Burgoyne could stay and be VFL listed for the year.  Otherwise likely 14-15 from last years squad are probably returning.

In the absence of a long term injury, not sure that is even possible. I stand to be corrected.

Casey isn't the easiest team to get a game! Perhaps the focus should be on that at this stage. Sometimes there are very limited spots after listed players, who I assume are automatically selected. But good luck to all the Casey aspirants.

Just a hunch based on 3 Stingrays games I saw. Thought he was a gun from what I saw.

Yeah, but is he a Glock or a water pistol.

Paddy Cross (20, 181cm, 71) from Nar Nar Goon and the Gippsland Power is a versatile, hard tackling wingman with loads of pace.  Earned a place in the North Melbourne VFL side as a 23rd player.

EFNL 2023: South Croydon’s Tom Sheridan earns VFL contract with Casey

Behind the paywall. What does it say please WJ?

Port Melbourne have signed Bryce Milford. Makes sense as he was on the fringe and Port can guarantee him more matches/game time

Bryce Milford – 20 years old, 195cm, Key Position Forward / Defender

Milford has been recruited from the Casey Demons where he played 7 games in 2022 and in 2021 played 2 games for the Gold Coast Suns VFL side.

Basically, the now 21 year old made the seniors at South Croydon as a 19 year old in a season affected by Covid lockdowns but 2022 was his breakthrough year kicking 45 goals for the club. During one of the finals attended by Max Gawn who came to watch former teammate Matt Jones, he left a lasting impression on the Demon skipper who alerted the club’s scouts and, as a result he’s secured a contract with the Casey Demons.

Is anyone able to provide a report on who played well for Casey today?

Richmond website has a full VFL report up already whilst ours provides zero updates throughout the day or a report.

Stock standard.

There is a difference as  this is a Tiger team fully from their Club. We are in a different status and  would need to at best negotiate such posts of matches that can be placed on our website. Their summary on the Casey site would surely be able to be posted on our website by them after the game I would think.

It's important to this comment as it's not comparing apples with oranges in this issue.

    A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

    Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
