It's an essential component of pre-season training.

I must be stronger than I think 🤔

While it is good to see the players hard it at it already I wonder about the wisdom of it.

There was a fair bit of evidence that we kept the training up in the 2021/2022 pre-season and even Max said it was like 2021 and 2022 rolled into one long season.  This seemed to impact our ability to play out games after the mid point this season..  Acknowledging the short break after the GF contributed to this but not sure we had the balance right last year.

Hope this year we have learnt from that and re-balanced the training regimes.

Good to see Salem moving/running like that - perhaps a sign that the o.p that has plagued him for nearly two years might be fixed.

I would think it’d be in a moonboot still if it was injured again.

It would have to be a moonboot at the slightest flurry of discomfort for him. That injury has been known to flare for considerable time, each time, a great risk would otherwise be taken without its protection. So, he must have made a startling recovery (as the timeframe is rather short for its healing).

You and Pickett aren’t uppity snobs though. Therein lies the difference. BBO is the uppitiest of uppity snobs ever there was.

You are on the money as usual Dazzle!

In @WalkingCivilWar 's neighbourhood quaffing spewmante by the schooner is considered a trendy wine tasting.

Agreed. Some of the 'cheaper' French reds are quite a surprise, very much like those we used to drink here in Oz before supplies ran out.

Is Tmac still rehabbing the foot? There was conjecture he re-injured the lisfranc IIRC…

He was playing basketball with Gawn and Harmes, so safe to say he is good to go.

The removal of the metal is just part of the process.

I also heard that Tom was in full running mode which is absolutely fantastic news.

4 buck chuck by the goony bag is more up your alley right?

  • 2 weeks later...

Am I missing something? Shouldn't the young guys have started pre-season this week? I can only think that we start later because of our appearance in last season's final series - dismal as it was.

  • Demonland changed the title to Pre-Season Training

https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/1250503/afl-training-gallery-november-23

First-to-fourth year players are due to return to AAMI Park next Monday, while the full list will be on deck on December 5.

The fact it's the off-season hasn't stopped much of the playing group showing up at Melbourne's Richmond home to get a head start on the opposition.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
