Is there an administrator more appalling than Simon Lethlean? Rhetorical.

There was a point in time when Carlton (as a power house) used to send St Kilda all of it's off cut players. Now it's the AFL. Finnis and Lethlean. There's another but I can't think who it is.

Lethlean shouldn't even be in the industry imo let alone the new CEO. It's jobs for the boys big time over there.

Remind me again of who Gill barracks for? 🤔

Ratten was a good coach at Carlton who got nowhere because their recruiting was awful and their list just ran out of improvement.

I think he did ok at St Kilda but someone has to take the fall for their lack of list strategy apart from load up on players other teams didn’t want.

It probably wasn’t Ratten’s idea, but a coach has to give direction to their football department and if it’s the wrong direction they need to get out.

Its a shame for Brett because he’s 100-1 to get a 3rd shot at it but it’s hard to argue it was either sack him now or sack him in June.

Huh?

Grant's voodoo still working wonders..

This from an article on the sacking

'Lethlean on Friday insisted Walsh was not involved in the review that has ultimately cost Ratten his job. He said the decision was made by a review committee which was made up by Bassat, Lethlean, Jason Blake and former North Melbourne coach David Noble.'

It's pretty hard core that David Noble, who was unceremoniously sacked following a 'review' was involved in a review that led to the unceremonious sacking of another senior AFL coach.

What an industry.

What are odd that Brett ends up in the sacked coaches nursing home - fox footy

Our football department will become the sacked St Kilda coaches rehabilitation home if we pick him up. We've already got Richo.

They also listed Noble as being too hard on players as reason for his sacking. Then Noble is part of the review that says Ratten wasn’t hard enough on his players.

Ratten would say - well of course I wasn’t, I didn’t want to be you!

From the presser and answers given, they have selected someone, we will know by next week

That covers it binman. I was discussing with a couple of friends yesterday the expectation of AFL teams ( and other professional sports) that there can only be one successful team. The rest the fans are unhappy about. We won our first flag in half a century lose in the prelim this year and my feeling was despair. We finished second on the ladder and lost  our two finals in part because we had a banged up team. A month down the track I can now see we had a good year. Yes it is competition that seldom shows empathy for its coaches and players

There is something here we are not being told. Odd.

That was my thought too. What issue could possibly have come to light now that wasn’t apparent in July, that warrants this drastic a response with this timing?

It is possible that the St Kilda administration is just completely incompetent though. Either way I’d be furious as a Saints fan.

My gut feeling it is one of three things (in order of probability).

  1. Applying the Occam's razor principle, complete incompetence is probably the most likely reason
  2. Somewhat related to number one, back room shenanigans and shadowy conversations at board level led to identifying someone they decided they want to bring in as senior coach pronto - sack Ratten, create some space ahead of the draft and magically said person gets the gig (which might explain why the saints were so inactive in the trade period - ie they wanted to give the new guy as much input into the list as possible, and not saddle him with player types ratten was keen on)
  3. They uncovered something NQR about Ratten they knew would likely come out at some point and wanted to get ahead of that by biting the bullet and sacking Ratten now

We all know how the saints' fans feel. We were that hopeless club not so long ago. Thank God we have a proper board now. Real competence and fortitude to stick the course is actually quite rare.

What a monumental [censored] up.

Keep the coach so they can try and recruit DeGoey then sack him the day after trade period so no players can try and escape.

There is absolutely no reason to become an AFL coach now, it's a hiding to nothing

Ain't it great to be our club now. We need to enjoy this time more.

As I posted earlier. Got someone and dumped him. Blokes who appointed him and gave him that list remain and even get promoted. Great club.

Now they may only give Ratten 6 months pay, on a 2 year extension, which stopped him applying for other jobs that were available.

If that's true, wish them continued misery. Ratten is a decent bloke, who deserves better.

I would take him as an Assistant Coach.

Think we already know who the new Coach is.

A Bombers mate sms'd me the other day as well. He said they have been a sh-t club for 15 years and still are one. He said they are a shambles.

Waiting for the next mate from another club.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
