Because the Lions are so hard to beat on their own deck, this would be the first time this year when the Demons aren’t favourites with the bookies.

This is the best time for us to defy the odds, to prove the doubters wrong and to earn our spot in the top four!

Take blood, Dees. If you go out with that attitude and keep it, the game is yours and the Lions will wilt.

On the 3.20pm flight to Brissie this afternoon, then to the Pineapple Hotel in Kangaroo Point (gotta love these names) where I'm told the Demon Army will gather pre and post game. Can't wait, go Dees!

We’ll be there from 4pm until gates open at the Gabba, which is at 6:30pm, less than an hour before the first bounce! Which sucks on the one hand as not much time to set up, but is great on the other hand as more drinking time. 🍺 🍻 🍾 🥂 🥴

What a wonderful week it's been!

It started last Saturday when we were given the unmitigated pleasure of watching smug and confident Carlton supporters reduced to whimpering despair.

It continued with week long viewing of the  soap opera provided by  Essendrug's pathetic implosion

......but .... the finale will be provided tonight, when the Dees start their relentless march toward BACK to BACK!

You can back it in!

You should include Clarko going to the Kangas ,what a dumb move that is ,it can only end in tears

Disagree, it's a good move for Norf - it can only help them!

And .... it's even better because it added to the shambolic [censored] up that is Essendon.

Most of us are here (Kangaroo Point) already. Humans, that is. As for non-humans, there’s two separate trains carrying two separate items which should arrive very soon. Those being:

I'll be there too after waking up with butterflies and feeling a tad nervous now. Living in Brisbane, absolutely love it when we beat the Lions.

FYI - Gates open at 6:30pm but first bounce isn't until 7:50pm so plenty of time for set up.

Tx Whispering Jack.

The rare times I get to go the footy...moved interstate....I wish you were one of the mates I went with.

I love mine but they complain all the time we will lose.

I'd pay for your tix just to nullify some of the pessimism.

Ha. It's not my fault they made me sniff glue.

Na...go ahead and enjoy yourself.

Footy is all about the atmosphere...the rituals....the banter...and of course the food and beverages.

Although I do advise people to stay away from those disgusting dominos pizzas if they still have them. My guess is they don't after a royal commission discovered they caused several let's just say so I don't get sued....unpleasant endings.

Anyway enjoying some cheese and I know I'm letting the mfc foodies down ....a couple of meat Pies is fantastic. You know the ones that are so burning hot they melt your tongue. But you still continue to nibble on them and end up not enjoying them as much if only you ignored your greed and waited just 5 bloody minutes.

But having the odd tibble or ten completes the day especially the latter if we lose and you have to go home via public transport and listen to opponents supporters.

You enjoy that one gallon bottle of sweet sherry you smuggled in by dressing up as some strange looking  toddler in an oversized duffle coat.😃 and don't let anyone make you feel guilty.

Ps shame on you for just the one gallon.

Hey WCW you should hook up with that ever luvin ball of fun Uncle Bitter and get absolutely blotto! 😁

Edited by picket fence

We know it’s very very tough tonight. They are a 6-7 goal better team at the Gabba. It’s going to be a finals atmosphere.

Lions have won 9 from 10 home games in 2022

Lions have won 35 out of last 37 home games in the regular session.  That’s a massive home ground advantage.

Like in the final round of ‘21, down at Pussyland park, we showed we can win (albeit just) against the odds and beat feral home town favourites and the Umps.

Go Dees. Unleash hell !!

Big game from the big man tonight.

Im calling, Ten plus marks.

And he kicks straights.

This is a huge game tonight and a must win.

We have more to lose so hopefully we won't.

This is in effect a final with top 4 up for grabs for both teams

Lions record in finals not so flash at the Gabba

Our away record including the Adelaide and Perth finals last year is very good

We're going to win this game

I'm an armchair supporter tonight picket and past experience has taught me to pace myself in the lead up to these late starts.

I'm confident though that you'll be well [censored] as usual by the first bounce!

We are in section 213.

There appears to be a bushfire with smoke now heading towards the Gabba.

Hopefully put out soon and smoke clears.

Like the final they lost to the dogs last year by a point tx to some creative umpiring.

But yep there a good side anywhere but home advantage sure helps.

Still confident though because we have more to lose and hoping to see some of our champions play like they can....and they will.

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

And just like that, we’re Narrm again. Even though the annual AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round which commemorates the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to our game has been a welcome addition to our calendar for ten years, more lately it has been a portent of tough times ahead for we beleaguered Narrm supporters. Ever since the club broke through for its historic 2021 premiership, this has become a troubling time of the year for the club. For example, it all began when Melbourne rebranded itself as Narrm across the two rounds of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round to become the first club to adopt an Indigenous club name especially for the occasion. It won its first outing under the brand against lowly North Melbourne to go to 10 wins and no losses but not without a struggle or a major injury to  star winger Ed Langdon who broke his ribs and missed several weeks. In the following week, still as Narrm, the team’s 17 game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Dockers. That came along with more injuries, a plague that remained with them for the remainder of the season until, beset by injuries, the Dees were eliminated from the finals in straight sets. It was even worse last year, when Narrm inexplicably lowered its colours in Perth to the Waalit Marawar Eagles. Oh, the shame of it all! At least this year, if there is a corner to turn around, it has to be in the direction of something better. To that end, I produced a special pre-game chant in the local Narrm language - “nam mi:wi winnamun katjil prolin ambi ngamar thamelin amb” which roughly translated is “every heart beats true for the red and the blue.” >y belief is that if all of the Narrm faithful recite it long enough, then it might prove to be the only way to beat the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Sunday. The Lions are coming off a disappointing draw at Marvel Stadium against a North Melbourne team that lacks the ability and know how to win games (except when playing Melbourne). Brisbane are, however, a different kettle of fish at home and have very few positional weaknesses. They are a midfield powerhouse, strong in defence and have plenty of forward options, particularly their small and medium sized players, to kick a winning score this week after the sting of last week’s below par performance.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.
