We're not beating Brisbane up there so as long as Collingwood beat Carlton which is likely or Fremantle beats GWS we will finish out of the top four.  If that happens we have to hope Sydney loses by more than us. Doesn't look good.

Far out...this thread sounds a lot like "We won't win the flag this year".

I would suggest you go and ready the "Premiership metrics" thread.

Why would you start a new thread like this when your comment could’ve been posted in the “veil of negativity” thread? Genuine question.

Negative Nancy hey, there is every chance of beating Brisbane.

It's not negative. I'm just stating that there's a good chance we won't finish in the top four.  Are we going to bury our heads in the sand?

You know youre in trouble when you need to rely on saints to win a game.......any game.

Pointless worrying about next week. We are first cab off the rank on Friday night then we sit back and watch the weekend unfold . Nothing else you can  do.

No, you’re not just stating that “there’s a good chance…”

The thread title is “We’re finishing OUT of the top 4”

Yeah, that's a good chance

The fact that this is a realistic possibility makes a mockery of those who espouse to the idea that loading impacts our results to any degree.

To suggest that we lost games because we were only at 75% optimal level, is suggesting that we botched our loading program. Even if we do beat Brisbane, get the double chance and win the G/F, no fitness department would cut things so fine that it comes down to this.

The reason it has come to this is twofold IMO. Firstly, we've had injuries to key personnel, who have struggled upon returning to the side. And secondly we've become too predictable in the way we play, and our opposition have pulled us apart at times.

After starting 10-0, missing the top 4 would be a bad result.

It’s never too late to change the title of the thread. Just a suggestion as it’s entirely up to you. 👍🏽

Why is this a thread? Meet with the run home thread or kill it.

Brisbane would have put a circle around this game the moment we smashed them earlier this year. We are their bogey team of late and you can be confident that they will bring their 'GF' game on Friday night. Not sure we can sustain another 'GF' performance from our opposition. Especially coming off a 6 day break and travel.

It is true they lack the defensive prowess and effort, but they are potent when the game is an offensive one. If you look at our last month of footy, we have been vulnerable to teams with that game style.

I am not as confident as most on DL that we will knock off the Lions. If we manage to do it and secure 2-3, then ill regain some confidence that we may have a chance in Sept.

… or the “Dees won’t win a flag in 2022” thread. Actually, there’s no shortage of ridiculous, negativity-laden threads from which to choose.

Some Doomsayers are more evagelical than others so need their own platform to preach their messages of misery from.

We'll beat Brisbane on Friday night while St Kilda will win a tight one against Sydney on Sunday looking to end their season on a high. Means we'll finish 2nd having won 3 of our last 4, all against fellow finals teams including wins against Brisbane and Fremantle interstate. Pretty decent form to take into the finals IMO.

Threads should not be started lightly, and this the perfect example of why.

There is no substance, no avenue for further discussion and no point to this thread. It’s just you having an anxious and pessimistic moment and telling us about it.

I am beginning to think that some people just love living a life of eternal misery. Each to their own, but wow!

I watched Collingwood v Sydney yesterday and can tell you based on what I saw Carlton will win next week

Fremantle are no certainty to beat GWS on the road either

Irrespective of all that we have beaten the Lions in our last 3 encounters - granted not at the Gabba but two were on neutral grounds

Our players know what needs to happen

We need to shut Neale down and our back six need to play well - if we do that we are a very good chance

This thread reminds me of olisik last year where he consistently had us losing and dropping out of the 4 with everyone else winning every game. Brisbane didn't look polished last week against the Saints and would have lost if King had kicked straight.

Our results over the last 8 weeks haven't been awful -

R15 Beat Lions by 64, R16 Beat Crows by 29, R17 Lost to Geelong by 28, R18 Beat Port by 14, R19 Lost to Bulldogs by 10, R20 Beat Freo by 46, R21 Lost to Pies by 7 and R22 Beat Carlton by 5.

If you judge us by results alone - we dropped two close ones we should have won to Bulldogs and Pies, we've won 5/8 games convincingly with really the game in the dark at the cattery the only real blemish (IMHO).

With the talent we have, and our ability to win contested ball (finals style footy), we have every chance of hitting a sweet spot in the finals and I wouldn't write us off just yet (starting this Friday night).

There needs to be a Sad Sacks thread for all this uber negative [censored].

Brisbane are no good and we will beat them. End thread.

Maybe we could have just one thread for all these random predictions so we can keep track....?

Or avoid.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
