South Frankston is nice, but the rest…

I lived in Frankston East (Karingal), Mornington and Frankston South.

Mornington is better.

Only 6 days of the trade period to go!!

That means only 5 and 1/2 days until something happens!

I must admit until last night I thought it ended tomorrow… [censored] me this goes on for [censored] ever!

Corbett clearly not rated highly by Gold Coast.  A future fourth rounder?

That's not even a packet of chips, it's the little crumby bits at the bottom of the bag.

They wanted the future pick for their gun key forward in next year’s academy crop (Jed Walter). Expecting a bid will come well inside first round (& GCs capacity to walk their academy kids in the door without matching bids will wrap up this year).

On Dunkley.  AFL website reports:  "The Lions put forward pick 15 and a future first-round pick for Dunkley but were keen to get picks 30, 39 and a future third-round back, which would have seen them essentially splitting for points as well as getting Dunkley".

Bulldogs turned it down, pick 15 was traded out and now they are bleating about what Brisbane can offer and threatening the PSD.  Bulldogs should have learnt their lesson with the Stringer trade a few years ago.  Knocked back the picks offered, Ess traded some out and Bulldogs got a fair bit less than the initial offer.

That’s just a bad deal for the dogs though, although not too far off. Dogs right to turn it down when they need to get Lobb. The Lions then traded 15, then traded the future 2nd they got for 15 rather than just iron out the deal with the dogs.

Lions need to add something nice to the future first to get it done and haven’t come up with that nice piece.

We aren’t doing the public song and dance but Freo might be doing something similar and if they had other priorities on players to bring in I bet they’d be trying them.

The public comments is just a bit of fun and games for the supporters and media. It always gets overrated.

Maybe that's the advantage of our approach - the Stringer deal was years ago and it still taints them?  I feel like in this case the dogs haven't done much wrong and the lions are over-reaching because they can.

I don't think it taints them per se.  But it is part of a stubborn pattern (and perhaps overestimating a player's market worth) when you consider the Stringer trade and they refused to trade Dunkley while in contract because they didn't get the picks they asked for (fair enough) and now repeating the Stringer experience, as I say there is a bit of form there.

We definitely have the right approach.  Clubs, players and their managers know that we will get deals done and don't try to win every trade.

Agree. The player then plays with the club that takes him or doesn't and if not, gets no AFL footy and no money.

Could even sign a one year deal, on the basis they trade him at reasonable value the next year.

That's a great PSD then for that club, a free good player, to trade in a year.

But the thing is they still do get money. It’s a risk but comes down to age. If you’re late 20s early 30s then they can go to a club that they not want to, get fat & lazy, have lower level intensity & sit in the magoos for their contracted time & still get a full wage. No performance clauses so if a club like Eagles take him he can just stink it up on a full wage. This is why clubs that know they’re not the preferred club don’t chase even though they may have 1st pick in the PSD. They still have to play but get nothing in return. It’s only if a player is younger & has more years as they won’t want to risk ruining their career & missing a chance to move where they want at end if their contract via a trade.

Articles don't mention the 3 interested Victorian clubs. Doubt we're one of them.

Might head to the Cats.

Crows will probably throw in pick 5 knowing the Cats’ luck

Also the most disappointing ... like deciding on eating my biennial Hungry Jacks Burger...and then regretting the decision.

We can't regret in life EO!

10 days of people hitting F5 non-stop. Brilliant strategy by the AFL. 90% will happen while Fox has their show next Wednesday night.

Is anything happening yet? Are we actually making our list better? Or are we just gonna accept a few picks and get some kids in for 2025 debut? Amazing that the clubs around us have been the most aggressive in this trade period and we continue to sit on our hands. Huge finish coming on Wednesday I hope.

So what you're telling us, is that the concept of growth coming from within (be it training, age demographic, experience, role) is nowhere near as EXCITING as this time of year for you right? 😇

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
