This is staggering. The bloke has barely had a kick. Hasnโ€™t donโ€™t anything for the club that put faith in him. He is showing zero respect for North.ย

Itโ€™s already happened a few years back. Can McCarthy at GWS requested a trade to Freo in his home state of WA. It was rejected. He then returned to WA and sat out for a year. The next year he requested trade again and GWS traded him to Freo for stuff all.ย

Players hold too much power and itโ€™s ruining the game.

Probably worse than that the power resides in the agents.

They are the ones whispering all this sort of diatribe to the players of "you are worth 1 million a year" ..

Almost totally rules us out of getting the top 8 pick we were looking for. Hope the club are steadfast on the two first rounders + 1 second rounder. Give them Jackson and a third back. Hopefully their initial demands stay true.

Here's hoping Freo enter the Bowes race so we can get Pick 7 instead.

How many number 1 picks have Carlton had?! Did I hear correctly recently that Horne-Francis is the only number 1 draft pick North have ever had?ย

Yep, JHF was their first. They'll have another one this year to boost up that leaderboard. And next year, and the year after...

Some good points but we did actually add Ben Brown which went long way towards winning us a Premiership....He was banged up this year, as were many others.ย  Our selection policy re injured players is one of the biggest things we need to change for following year.ย  Mostly i think we have the personnel.....Just some tweaks in gameplan, ball movement and selection integrity and we will be right in the mix again.

Agree

Gotta change the contracts for first rounder draftees. The top kids get drafted to the struggling clubs and want to leave straight away. A number one pick leaving after one season is not good for the game.ย

Yeah but at the same time players being forced to play for a club they hate & donโ€™t want to be at isnโ€™t good for the game. Imagine your boss telling you that your stuck at a [censored] job where you hate the place & that youโ€™re not allowed to leave. The AFL is the most draconian, backwards comp in the world in this regard & it hasnโ€™t made the comp any fairer or even in 1 single way, despite what they preach.

I agree!

canโ€™t see them letting him goย

ย

What benefit is it to the club in keeping him?

The bloke refuses to train or play, still gets paid & then leaves at end of next year anyway. It happens in other sporting codes where blokes that donโ€™t want to be there just disrupt the club, cause trouble & that hurts the club more.ย
Take a trade now & get 2 good picks for him & get rid of the cancer. New coach & time to start fresh in their rebuild.

Rubbish.

Dees, Tigers, Bulldogs all with drought breaking flags in the last few years. Freo, Adelaide, GWS all in Grand Finals.

The evidence says you're completely wrong.

You do have to leave the door open for that stuff I guess. I still get this slight unprofessional feel from him though, it does seem a bit Scully like. Have to feel for North.ย

Oh I feel for North & I donโ€™t agree with what heโ€™s doing but the world is getting softer by the day & this is what the current generation is like. I think mummies boys that need to go home do mum can tuck them in like Jackson are pathetic. Hate to go to war with these blokes. But itโ€™s the modern reality & it happens in other codes where they know they canโ€™t force players to perform at a place they donโ€™t want to be at.

McKay signs for 7 years with the Blues. No doubt this is a result as a number of clubs chasing him this year.ย

Carlton will have some cap issues soon I wonder who they end up dumping.ย

That's going to have a ripple effect. Wonder how many clubs will now want to trade up and get their hands on Cadman now.ย

So if North don't get a deal done for Logue they are prepared to take him in the pre season draft? The richochet effect means West Coast are next in line and would take Jackson. Not sure how that affects our deal for Jackson but I kind of hope that North's no.1 PSD pick stays open as a threat as long as possible. Every bit counts.ย

Tarranto and Hopper could be Tigers as of today:

Richmond - TT & JH
GWS - 12, 19, 30 & F1

SEN said this morning that Freo are offering Pick 13 and F1, but want a second round in return. They can get farrked

ย

If Freo can turn pick 13 into a top 10 pick it would end up the practically the same as we paid for Lever.ย  This would seem fair.

Trade radio this morning said that James Harmes was seen at the Hangar last week.

Yep, i am all about being reasonable.. but there is no way in hell we should give up anything other than the player.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturdayโ€™s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFLโ€™s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterdayโ€™s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown andย  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
