The issue with Grundy is some of the things he does well that result in big stats aren’t often valuable, especially if he’s off his best.

He gets a lot of hit outs but he’s not tall and doesn’t jump, so they’re very predictable and don’t result in quality clearances. He gets a lot of disposals but they are messy contested possessions. Often times he’s just nicking disposals that should be in the hands of someone like Pendlebury or Sidebottom.

Apart from the huge difference in salary the Pies prefer Darcy Cameron because he can play forward, he’s a better mark and better tap ruck who keeps it simple in his role.

Grundy is not tall…

Fascinating piece of Non information

Keep yelling at the Mirror

not tall? 203cm is pretty big

There’s a bit of Collingwood 6 footer about that measurement. Most rucks look clearly taller than him. Darcy Cameron listed at 204 and looks more like an inch than a cm taller. Either that or Grundy is appears shorter because he’s usually bear hugging opponents

Getting Grundy would allow us to draft or rookie a young ruckman, with time to develop and then Kalani White can be another in a couple of years. It makes sense. That would probably be the end of the Meek possibility involved in a Jackson trade.

Would prefer Meek to Grundy so we can pocket over half a million dollars to spend elsewhere on a more important position (key forward).

Does anyone really know what his contract is? If he is on $800k for 7 years his contract might be front loaded so maybe a significant portion of the contract could have already been paid. So if that is the case his salary might only be averaging say $600k/yr. I would go to Collingwood and offer to fully take over his contract in exchange for their first round pick. Grundy is then off their books. There would be cap space as this money would have been offered to Jackson.

Look we need to draft in a quality ruckman. Max is 30 and has proven with LJ that they can share the ruck load and I don't see any other all-Australian ruckman available. Max has always had enormous respect for Grundy. When he is due to play him he watches everything Grundy does at training and analyses his ruck work. LJ is going west and has made his decision so the club need to look at alternatives as we have no other ruckman in the closet with Weird used in emergencies.

I am not sure we can buy a key forward with big money,  but rather we can get a young one off Freo and hopefully a pick to get another. Can’t compare Grundy to Meek. Grundy and Gawn as they get near to retirement, can also mentor young ruckmen we can draft/rookie.

Ridiculously premature. God help the kid if he actually makes it onto our list. The expectations will be nauseating.

I think Meek is going to be a good ruckman in a few years. Grundy to me doesn’t have much more shelf life than Max.

I think Meek will be another Harry Madden, Barnes, Jolly, Jacobs,  Mumford, Witts type who gets pushed out at their first club but makes a good career out of their second opportunity

You misinterpreted what I said.

I said he “can” not “will” make the list.

If he does get taken by us, I would expect absolutely nothing, other than a few years of development before we would know if he is any good.

I have posted several times that Meek could be part of any Jacko deal and only today, when someone said we are heavily into Grundy,  I started looking at that scenario.

Interesting times in the post season for the Dees coming up.

Why bring it up? I'm sure we are not planning around it, so it has no relevance to whether we get Grundy or not.

We should be planning on bringing in a young ruck who is already in the system. There are plenty of options. And also rookie listing a ruckman or 2.

Grundy makes absolutely no sense, especially after coming off a long term injury.

Correct. Leave the kid alone. If nothing else, if he was to become aware of the pressure of being J.White’s son, it would be a good reason for him to choose Basketball over AFL.

Grundy is reputably on $7M over 7 years.  It would be unlike a footy club esp. Collingwood to frontload esp. after the 2020 firesale.

He would be an expensive back-up to Gawn with not being of use for the first 3 years.  Gawn/Preus didn't work.  Gawn/LJ works because of LJ's mobility.

Meek has played 12 games over 5 years and averages 0.2 goals a match.  Not very compelling.

Lobb no longer looks a gilt-edged investment after last night.

I have met many young person from Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane who just loved the bright lights of the big city (Melbourne).

Freo have pick 12 and then 80 something.  Andrew Brayshaw only would be worth a pick 1 to 10. Don't see how Freo can supply two picks each of 1-10 and 11-20 in exchange for a proven pick 3.

Looks like LJ is staying.  Unless he wants to shoulder the burden at West Coast albeit on a mint.

Not sure how we make him stay if he nominates freo, our only bargaining chip is a game of chicken where we risk getting nothing and hope he grudgingly signs than risk going in the draft and ending up somewhere else. Best forget any ideas we even get back what he cost in a pick 3 in any trade let alone more. The best we can hope for is freos first this year and next. There won’t be any star players coming back our way.

If Grundy wants to come to the Dees, fantastic. He has been the number 2 ruck in the league for the last 5 years. Hence the massive deal. It’s the same with Jackson and Freo. We don’t need him, but you don’t say no to good players (ala Cerra last year)

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
