If Hawthorn take Watson and WB take Sanders then reckon we take Curtin or Caddy as he won't be there at 11. Prefer Reid but not looking likely at this stage.

Yeah I think think this is how it will play out, if we donโ€™t trade.

There's a significant drop in talent after the first top 5 picks imo. That's not even counting Jed Walter or Ethan Reed.

So who are you leaving out of the group, Watson or Sanders? Iโ€™m assuming Watson who I hope either the Hawks or Dogs pick before us.ย

Do any of you experts have reservations about Tasmanians given the imminent inevitable draft concessions and tweaks?ย

If we don't grab Curtin or O'Sullivan then I wouldn't be opposed to looking at this kid with pick 11. Got a fair bit to work with, will take time though because he's quite skinny.

200cm intercept defender with an excellent left boot.

If Tas comes into the national comp in 2028. These players will be what age?ย  22 maybe 23?ย  If they are good, and I hope they all are, then I assume some form of compensation, possibly like free agency. Besides not all will want to play for Tassie, or even if they do, they won't do it all at once either. Drafting from Tas really won't be any different really than WA or any other state based player for the MFC.
Players like Ryley Sanders have been in Melbourne this year and played for Sandringham in the Coates League.

Great work @spirit of norm smith

I have been wondering if Hawks will pick Curtain with their f/s pick McCabe also being a key defender( havenโ€™t seen him). Taking Ginnivan might mean they are less likely to take Watson I guess.ย

If we do go for two mids with our two top picks as you have above I hope that either Dawson or Zakostelsky slides to 42 or we move up to get them.ย

I like Arie Schoenmaker as well.... booming left boot, looks like he's got a good frame on him, and Walters, Curtin and McKercher all put pretty big wraps on him.ย  Paid a bit of a penalty (10 weeks) early in the season for getting on the sauce, But came back strongly in the second half of the season, and his game v Vic Metro was a bit of a stand out.

Guess it depends on when/if recruiters see the need for a big bodied defender.ย  Given we have Jed Adams also on the list.

3rd round as clubs may start to pass or pickup some smokies or state league players. Some roughies from here that could be drafted, rookies or miss out. Hawks and Bulldogs picks lost or push back due to father son picksย

We might just miss Zakostelsky. Would be a bonus pickup if heโ€™s available and we use our pick.ย

Our 1st pick in my opinion will be out of in order of probability: Sanders, Caddy, Watson, O'Sullivan.

2nd Pick in order of probability: Murphy, Tholstrup, Leake, Shoenmaker.

Our 1st pick is effectively pick 8 and our2nd pick is effectively pick 15 given Academy and F/S likely bids.

There is maybe the usual surprise pick in the top 8 opening up extra 'touted' pick at our turn. The is sure to be 2 or 3 bolters/surprises in the top 15 opening up 2 or 3 of the 'touted' players to pick from.

This draft will be very interesting.

Read that we are interested in Leake (along with cats and saints) and that he could be a top 10 bolter. Shoenmaker in the same article is said to be another bolter maybe in the late teens.

Would not be surprised if we surprise pick at the draft.

Plays very similar to Steven May.

Yep thats what I thought to.... although I think May might be a bit quicker. Shoenmaker has a much more fluid kicking action than O'Sullivan as well, if I had a criticism of what I have seen, he has an awkward ball drop.

With leake and Windsor allegedly bolting into top 10 contention, is it possible that O'Sullivan slides through to pick 11?

St Kilda are keen on him, think they may jump before Richmond.

Upside is huge, didnโ€™t make Claremont Colts squad in 2022 and certainly worked hard, grew and just improved through the year. Caught the attention of WA talent and earned a spot in the 18s a couple of games in playing as KPD.

I saw him play an Ammoโ€™s Colts scratch match North Beach vs Trinity Aquinas at the start of the year and whilst the athleticism was there there were quite a few basics needing work. To see where he ended up by the end of the season is a credit to him and could be just the beginning of a path of development which could lead to a decent return for the club who takes the chanceย

Yes I quite like the little I have seen of Schoenmaker, just looks like that big competitive type who will transition well to AFL level. Also with a penetration in his left foot gives you some nice optionsย

He genuienly looks like a Steven May clone. Same body size. Long kick. Think he's probably a better kick than May. Whether he can defend like May I don't know.

May has always been very strong 1-1 contested player. Either at full back or full forward in his younger days. Schoenmaker has similar traits perhaps with more run and kicks a drop punt without effort 60 metres. ย

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... itโ€™s time to discuss this weekโ€™s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliverโ€™s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line โ€ฆ Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the clubโ€™s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the clubโ€™s perspective, and the teamโ€™s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarksonโ€™s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed โ€” roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.ย  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
