ANB missed targets and unmissable goals

Yes, forgot about him. He was probably equal worst. His turning back into trouble, or handballing to a team mate in a worse position was appalling. Not sure why he has stepped back so far from his effectiveness from last year.

Their key forwards McDonald and Reid 6.2 from 32  touches.

Brown and Brown 0.1 from 12 touches. Big fail from our tall forwards.

What to do with Lever, Jackson, Sparrow and BBB? Their touch has gone, their confidence has gone, their intensity is totally shot.

I reckon BB is sick. He literally looks like he’s dying whenever he comes to the bench. Hasn’t been the same since he missed with Covid.

Maybe McDonald is really important after all…

Maybe May is.  No commander in chief on the backline.
Mitch >>> Ben.

Salem's disposal was shocking by his standards. Should have resumed at Casey first. Rivers or Hibbo would have been better value. And Hunt looks like a lost sheep down back. Time for a spell.

What I'm most disappointed about is that we have had a lot of injuries this year. This has given a lot of players the chance to get a game and not one has grabbed it so far.

Delivery into the forward line was deplorable. So I am not sure how to judge the tall forward’s tonight though BB is obviously struggling to get near it.

It’s back to 2019/20 stuff just lob it in high and hope. Just kept feeding the McCartyns long set up balls. Completely different to our entries for most of 2021 where we had control of the midfield battle and had the time and space and composure for the ball carrier to pick out a short target. Max was unbelievable but the rest of the engine room is struggling to work as a unit even if they are racking up possessions.

And despite that I’d say M.Brown was better value than Weid 😂

Yeah look we aren't winning a flag this year. There is so many concerns on all lines and that's not even counting that our pressure is ranked 17th in the league.

Forget the umpires, our style of play from start to finish was horrible to watch. Why we continue to just rush all night by playing on or having one too many handballs to a teammate to then put them under enormous pressure is bizarre.

Backline has turned to [censored]. Steven May is now our most influential and important player. When he doesn't play the rest turn to water. That's an apology to Petty who battled manfully tonight.

Jayden Hunt has over 100 games of experience and he is still one of the dumbest footballers going around. Not forgetting he touched the ball 3 times tonight as a [censored] half back flank.

Jake Lever is horribly out of form and it's costing us. When we need some form of leadership while May is out Lever has failed to stand up 2 weeks in a row. Simply not good enough.

Our midfield is seriously all over the shop. Rushed handballs and dump kicks into either no one in particular or straight to the opposition. Petracca, Viney and Sparrow are huge butchers of the footy. Our efficiency going inside 50 is just horrific and these guys are main culprits alongside a few others like ANB who's not much chop either going forward.

Really think our midfield needs a huge shake up and I'd be getting Brayshaw in there personally just to add something different.

Don't get me started on the forward line.. I think this is a significant concern moving forward and beyond as the likes of Tom McDonald, Ben Brown and Mitch Brown are all 30 years of age or over, plus a former first rounder who is only a VFL standard player. Our only hope is an 18 year old kid who is still unknown.

All of these guys are either badly out of form or injured and I can't see this forward structure holding up this year.

Besides Pickett, our smalls are barely impacting the scoreboard. Spargo has only kicked 4 this year and ANB just the 2 goals. It's just simply not good enough.

All in all a very disappointing display. Our current game style won't hold up and we could easily be out of top 4 very soon if there isn't significant changes to it.

Time to think about putting petty forward ?

Play Daniel Turner in his spot with May and Lever. Petty can mark read the flight and play as forward.

No. M Brown was next to useless as well. I would be playing van Rooyen and seeing what he can do if TMac is out.

Why the hell is he playing? Madness.

Because the only two forwards left standing are Weideman and JVR.

How many goal have we given away with free kicks in the last two rounds? I count 9. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Max played a great game but his last inside 50 effort was a turnover and they rebounded and goaled. That was the time to hit the lead and he blew it.

Bring JVR in.

That’s not our style anymore and thank goodness for that.
I rather not ruin a kid with a heap of potential. Weideman has to step the [censored] up. I’ve had a gutful of him. He’s been handed a golden opportunity this year to possibly be a premiership player and he has simply not taken it.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
