Neither Rivers nor Hibberd are tall defenders.
Petty struggled but he was still our best tall defender even on one leg. I shudder to think how many more goals we would have conceded without him.

Tonight yes

But include May, and the options open up

Tommo becomes 3rd tall... and we look totally different

Sure but May wasn’t an option tonight. So we had to push on and Petty fought on manfully.
I think Tomlinson is a poor defender but agree that Petty needs a week off to recover properly from his 240 injuries.

Honourable mentions;

Harrison Petty

Adjudication

 Helter skelter.

Opposition hyperbole watch;

Tom Papley;  shameless self promoting skite on steroids. Save it for the bathroom mirror son. Get a real job as a sideshow spruiker. Honestly.

Broadcast;

Channel 7 have an unsavory fetish for frequent throws to John Longmire in the coaches box. It’s supposedly a sport broadcast. Absurd.

Best they could do of Simon was an out of focus boundary shot. Reflected the team performance.

Overall Performance;

Like Icarus we Demons have flown to close to the Sun. Only to find our wings clipped and the team fabric unwaxed. Need to pull out of this dive quickly or the plummet could be painful.

Special mentions to Harry Petty for battling on on one leg, and to Kozzie for some incredible solo pressure efforts that lead directly to a couple of our  early gaols.

6 Gawn, has a Ruckman ever had more contested possessions, played his heart out.

5 Viney, brilliant game.

4 Brayshaw, reliable has not lost an ounce of courage.

3 Oliver, did a power of work in defense.

2 Jordon,  smooth moves, looked assured.

1 ANB, one clanger but a lot of good work too, improved out of sight on his couple of down games.

Petty - Brave heart award

I'm astounded at the love for Fritsch. Three goals is nice, but that's just a cameo. He needs to be exerting pressure when he hasn't got the ball and just isn't doing enough.

To kick three and should have been four when he was double and tripled teamed all day was a great performance.

I would dispute your opinion that Brayshaw was Melb's second best. Defensively he was very poor.

I agree ANB was better but I’m still not happy with ANB and Spargo.  They contribute barely enough and very very low direct scoreboard impact.

The bottom 3 could be in any order I couldn’t split them.

Not potting you, just genuinely curious, what didn't you rate about Viney, happy to hear another POV?

Lack of execution. Viney needs to start lowering his eyes and hitting targets again, otherwise he is a liability. Gets it a lot and doesn’t utilize it as well as he should/can. I get he is hard at it, and I admire his will to win the footy, but unless he’s hitting targets, then I cannot have him in my votes. Jack once adapted his game, many years ago. Harnessed his aggression and when he did - he started lowering his eyes more. He is actually really good user of the footy (if poised), also has a pretty snappy side step. He needs to get back to that player. He is one of my favorites so if I could’ve fit him in the votes I would’ve. He’s certainly having a ripping year.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

    It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

    Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

    Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

    The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res
