Dominated in all areas and could’ve won by more with some better kicking. Eagles stacked the D50 to shut the game down and slowed things down, helped by some dumb F50 entries from us.

That being said. I’ve never heard a commentary team so supportive of a side that got flogged by 12 goals. Amazing mental gymnastics to make this sound like a positive result for WCE and a real wake up call for us. I must’ve been watching a different game.

Teams prefer to scrap it out with us because they can't truly contend with us. Regardless we won and won big

Many have tried all have failed

Go dees

I cannot listen to Kelli Underwood. Excruciating.

Yeah it felt a lot to me like we were a lion that had bitten the leg off a gazelle in the first, then spent 2.5 qtrs circling and blithely swatting at it, before going for the kill in the last.

I’d take nails on a chalkboard AND a baby crying on a long-haul over Underwood’s voice anytime.

Couldn't watch the whole game and only heard the commentary in the last quarter - usually I synch with radio but couldn't tonight but will again whenever I can.  Honestly would even prefer BT or (gulp) Derwyyyne.

I didn't think the commentating was that bad. Definitely not in James Brayshaw/BT territory. KU isn't suited to AFL and her jackson to Eagles comments got on my nerves but Lewis and Pavlich were ok i thought

Cheers for the mental image!

Here’s some perspective….. was the Eagles lowest score at home this year (none else under 40). Umpires gave them 25 free kicks to our 18, because Perth.  Shocker I know. We are 9 - 0 this year, top of the ladder, 2 games and percentage clear of 3rd, and just cracked our highest win margin against WCE in Perth. Some of you on here still aren’t happy, or at least satisfied. Go talk to Kellie Underwood, because she’ll be right with you on having no concept of that perspective.

Eagles played super defensively after our fast start, so a 70+ point win is a terrific result.

Huge credit to our smalls in ANB, Kozzy and Spargo who were all superb.

Hope Harmes' injury isn't too serious. Thank Barassi for our current depth.

A lot of hate for Kelli Underwood comes from people with misogynistic views but she simply wouldn’t shut up about Jackson’s contract and it was gross.

It’s got a grand total of ZERO to do with misogyny!!!! She’s simply an annoying pain in the [censored]. Male OR female, it matters not.

Underwood also had Brayshaw packing his bags to join Freo. Embarrassing commentary

Some ppl need to have this stapled to their foreheads.

I turned the commentary off at quarter time. Gives a much more balanced perspective, bizarrely so much of the AFL media are trying to construct negative views of us rather than acknowledge how remarkable what we are doing is. We are the first reigning premiership  team in the modern AFL era (1990-, and probably well before but I can’t be arsed going back any further) to go 9-0, that’s incredible!! We’re 5 games + 40 points of percentage inside the top 8, 3 + 35 inside the top four and 2 + 20 inside the top 2. That’s all that matters, we’ll need to play better to win finals, fine, that’s ages away and by then we’ll have Salem back, and a host of VFL players pushing harder than ever for selection. Bring on the haters, we are the best!!

I said last week that I want them to finish this round below 50%, we did the bare minimum and they are now 49.9%.

Kelli Underwood was horrendously bad today, her excessive talk of the contract just shows her knowledge base to be minimal at best

Absolutely not misogyny

- love Daisy Pearce's comments (and not just partisan because of her MFC connection).  Underwood is just hard on the ear and her comments are inane at best.

- hate Derwaynnne and BT who as far as I am aware are both male XY

I followed our game through the AFL app and the ABC commentary o that and Demonland game day thread

now I will look at the votes thread

funny way to follow the game today

Some harsh views on what was a total pummelling. I don’t agree that it was ugly, or that we were in a second gear or whatever. There are no teams in the AFL that are bad at the game, just teams that can’t sustain a 4 quarter effort. West Coast had two quarters of solid effort that matched ours and still couldn’t make any inroads. We completely destroyed them in the two quarters where their effort dropped off.

It would have been nice to convert better, but other than that I’m really not sure what else we need to do before people will be happy.

And the women who was special comments on the ABC's broadcast of the Adelaide/Bears game yesterday was terrific. Just forgotten her name. (And no jokes about why a Demon would be listening to that game either thank you.)

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.
