I knew all the scenario with him standing out of Football for a year etc, i was sure he was also adamant that it was Collingwood or bust after those 2 years at the Bears.
why wasn’t he interested to be a Demon, considering what he said on Radio this morning?

Presumably b/c he perceived they could not win a premiimership, which turned out to be right over that period. Wonder what he thinks now?

i doubt he was a real invested demon fan

as a kid he lived all over australia but i don't think victoria

like most interstate kids he would have had his best favourite local team where he lived and picked melbourne as a sort of quasi vfl team as the vfl was seen as the heart of footy (he was already 18 when the vfl became the afl)

but that's just a bit of a guess

Well he was committed enough to volunteer unprompted on 360 30 years later that he was a Dees  fan as a kid. I think that is significant…..

i never said he wasn't a fan of sorts

when i was a kid i had a favourite side in the sanfl, the wafl, the vfa etc etc but i wasn't really invested as such

but you may be right, he might have been a really keen fan.  i just have my doubts

Fairytale for him if he gets the coaching gig and finally wins a premiership with his beloved childhood team, the mighty Dees!

Would be quite amusing and ironic if Nathan Buckley did end up coaching the Demons after "allegedly" supporting us as a kid.

Still think John Longmire gets the job as Melbourne coach....IF....he wants it?

Buckley most definitely was a Demons supporter as a kid. I would’ve preferred Goodwin keep his job over either of them, but after listening to him and Longmire interviewed today, Buckley definitely sounded more interested in the role.

Great video, enjoyed watching that immensely.
I remember DC bursting onto the scene and then fizzing out pretty quickly but I am too young to recall any details.

Why is it that he didn't last and go on to have a lengthy career?

Also, how good was the barrell from big Darren B, an NFL audition piece right there.

I think Darren lost his best friend in a car accident or something, and had trouble getting over it. I wonder if he keeps in contact with his old team mates.

I just checked AFL tables, in April 1991. Cuthbertson kicked 7 v North in our record equaling, score, then another 7 in our win v Collingwood( during my honeymoon,.), then 5 the next week. Then we had a bye, and he seemed to lose all form. I don’t know if this was when he lost his mate.

Buckley has hidden his feelings well over the past 30 years

Maybe, but Longmire didn't give anything away. Why should he?

I suspect that Longmire will be offered the job.

Buckley brings BIG TIME PRESENCE into the club. Not sure how the back room shadow men of the Board or coteries could accept that. He’s my preferred choice. Media would treat him with a degree of respect. Not much but at least some !!!

Based on the interview with Longmire just now on Fox Footy, it won’t be him

Nah i wouldnt read too much into that, i think they are both being respectful to Goody.

Agreed, what do people expect him to say?

As well as that, then there's also the matter that he's still contracted in an off-field capacity at the Swans - hardly going to be giving away his intentions in the press until things are well on the way to being stitched up in that circumstance.

Far easier for Buckley to speak more freely and candidly from his role in the media.

And wouldn't it be ironic if that premiership were to come against Collingwood. They'd absolutely hate it after all the years he couldn't bring one home there as player or coach. Would be worth giving him the job just for that prospect.

His words in the media I've seen is that he thinks we've got a good mix of experience and young talent

I applaud the club for showing huge gonads to act like it has, we have not seen such a decisive move in CENTURIES! We have got onto the front foot for a change, ! Simon delivered a flag for which we all WILL BE ETERNALLY IN GRATITUDE, but, his time, as most will attest was past! Fascinating stuff and given the pedigree of selection committee makeup, I trust Steven Smith, Brad Green and Richo to deliver our next premiership coach!! (Would not mind Gaddy Lyon was on selection there as well) !

P.F signing of from London Town! 🤩

Wow I was at that game too!

This morning on Whately on SEN Natham Buckley let slip that he was a Dees supporter as a teenager.

Interesting…

I'm going to have to dig this up lol

What is wrong with Buckley being a Demon supporter? Was Goody originally a Dee supporter, me think not. You can be anything you want to be as long as the price is right.

Listening to him on Whately, he called Melbourne a “BIG club with a storied history” which you don’t often hear anymore.

Whether he ends up coaching us or not, there is clearly a level of respect he has for the club and spoke really well regarding the Goodwin sacking and the entire club as a whole

Reminded me a bit of the Fridge Magnet with his marking and goal out the back.

The Dogs reigned supreme in 2018 with an inaugural AFLW premiership cup and the Demons matched this feat by winning the cup as the Season 7 2022 champions.Meggs wasn’t born when the Doggies won their first VFL premiership cup against the Demons in 1954. Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.
